Fantastic video. Thank you for taking the time to show us this great tip and making it fun at the same time with your comments. 😅.
Mine started flashing green after 1 year and I managed to fix it with a new thermal fuse that had blown.
It then melted the collar after 2 years of roughly 2 hours a month of use at work soldering 12GA to 18GA wires. I could not send it for warranty because I already opened it up and tore the label where the screw is hiding like in your video. Lol
I use it with a 4Amp bat so I can stand it up.
I can't believe I can't buy another plastic collar. I like the iron so much so I bought another one. This one though I will send in for warranty if ever it breaks.

Thank you for the compliment. I love these iron also. I have had mine for probably 6 years, and I use it all the time.

Thank you! As for the 18, it looks like I need to go get one and find out

I wonder if you can drill a hole in the case right above the potentiometer so you can adjust it without disassembling. Thanks for the vid I might just buy one

That would work its long as the hole is covered when done. I guess it would a good idea if you want to be able to constantly regulate the heat.

Never let that heating element heat up without the metal casing with soldering tip. The casing and tip absorb heat and tell the thermosistor to stop giving current to the element. When the thermosistor cycles the soldering iron to protect it

Try using clockwise for right and counterclockwise for left. You can figure out why on your own

I lended and they pressed on the tip and that the collar melted now it’s useless can solder anything , so increasing that temp for my experience I won’t do it for long use, I wish Milwaukee had made this way more resistant i have wired solder and they last for a-longer time. Drops g it holds but I always noticed the weak point of this solder iron I tried to use it for light usage but I should’ve never lended well I learn my lesson .. thanks for sharing I wish I knew to lower the temp just abit 😉

Milwaukee is pretty good with their warranties. You should send it in.

That could be a couple issues. It could be a bad on/off switch, bad battery, and/or other circuits. If you have a voltage meter, start by checking the battery, then check power at the fuse, then continue checking power from all other components.

Another thing the infrared thermometer is not accurate with a small tip cause air is moving between the thermometer and the tip. Use a thermosistor that cimes in sum multimeters

This is true, in some cases. I have checked it, before, with my Fluke temp probe, and it was pretty accurate. This is the only reason why I used the infrared temp gun. If it was off, I wouldn't have used it.

So I was on the phone with Milwaukee Canada and the tech guy had no clue what I was talking about...this new Rev2 model with the 4 screws holding the collar. At the same time my parts distributor enters my door with the box in his hand and sure enough it was the new model. I just told the tech to forget about it and hung up. It looks like they are keeping a lid on this info hence the same part numbers for the upgraded item. They even kept the old model pictures and the parts diagram on their website.
They don't want the world to know there was a serious design flaw...and there probably still is as the plastic collar is still made the same...holding the metal tip in place. 😮

That is good to know. They finally redesigned it. I wonder what the major differences are. Maybe it's time to get a new one.
