"The key to the game is playing the man, not the cards"
Loses to the cards.
But he thought he had a flush. He didn't. He had a bigger full house, so therefore, he got fooled by the MAN with the cards too.
@@TommonSensePro he wasn't fooled, it was a guess, what truly happened was he broke dj khalids rules, he played himself
Dee Loc 😂
slimj091 😂😅😆, I laughed so hard, I almost threw My back out.
Any decent poker player would've calculated the nuts and realised KGB could be slow playing a pocket pair, so why go all in when you could just call?
He broke rule #1 never gamble with money you can’t afford to lose
that’s not gambling 🤣
russ caton what do you mean it was his money. He got flushed but as long as it is your money, no real trouble you can earn it back. Real problems start when you lose money you borrowed
Exactly, only bet the money you are ok to lose. If you go higher like him, the pressure it is gonna ruin your game.
TheBiakko
“Money you can’t afford to lose” genius.
In the scene he said he lost his case money and his tuition.
That’s money he could indeed not afford to lose.
Hazardous 088 not true. Later in the movie he just works his ass off to earn again. It was his money he lost, not some money he borrowed
KGB: "Aces full."
Juanda: "I had trips."
SICK
Treeps
Guy from Training Day: "I got...TWO PAIR, BRO!"
literally see bad beats all the time, but the facial expression of matt damons acting is what makes this scene pure gold... from his confience on the turn and then to the disappoint after showdown
What bad beat? Teddy had the best hand pf and on the flop.
Yeah, it was a cooler.
That is because he is one of the best actors out there.
Not a bad beat. Cooler.
Playing tournament one time and was cleaning up. Damn one guy came from another table sat down and I had KK he had A7 well all in, after we both pushed all in, lady next to me said I had a Ace and folded, so one ace left. I said hot damn I got this, kid catches ace on the river. What is more bullshit I would've gotten the 2 other 25$ bounties from the other players bad beats
I bet some dude on Reddit would be like, "yeah i would've folded that"
Only loses to one hand, button verus BB, "iTs An EaSy FoLd"
XDDDDDDDD I’m dead thank you 😂
I mean, that pot was played so weirdly. likely only $1100 in the pot. two big overbets.
Jin card. no betting.
River flush draw gets there.
he odds of that hand are so low.
for a self professed shark, he put teddy on a very narrow range. Kq of spades? 10-J spades? QJ?
3 specific hands. Also betting big on a paired board. If he was massively ovebetting a flush, he still loses to 8's, 8-9, 9's. I think the river was a 6, so 6's. Or aces.
The betting was just weird. Hard to walk away from a boat, but silly to put your opponent only on a flush draw.
yep best comment ever

Sadly, as awesome as this film is, almost nothing about it is legitimate or even realistic. 😁 But don't get me wrong, I *LOVED* this film. It's so friggin' awesome in at least a dozen ways to the river.
@@Novastar.SaberCombat I agree that most of the poker scenes are unrealistic but most of the general life lessons & characters personalities are very realistic
Remember kid: You need to understand that everything you do at the poker table conveys information.
He might as well have been eating a sandwich
Can’t be all loosey goosey
Eating a sandwich.
To be fair, KGB is impossible to read at this point. He was relaxed which might indicate a monster card but he might just be relaxed because he's playing at home. Also, heads up is a bitch. If other players were in the game, there'd be more information from raises and re-raises.
What I noticed is that I find it harder to read people, older than me. I can read the young bucks like it's nothing.
@@immortaljanus He's not actually playing heads-up in the first scene ... in the final, penultimate scene, it's, HU NLH ... here, he's HU in the hand, but, there were others, in the game, and, others, dealt in , that hand ... but, yeah, Malkovich looks cold-hearted as Hell in that scene ...but, also, he does, put Oreo, to ear, and, "hears it", as it breaks, and, then, crunches on it, so ...probably has a really good hand ...
I like how he doesnt even wait for damon to turn his hand over..would have been awesome slow roll if he tabled quad 9's 😂
You’re right, the pure nuts were quad 9s.
@@ScottsStockDueDiligence Its impossible to have quads in this spot because damon has the third 9 in the deck besides the two on the board

Testimony to how good the movie is.
Funny thing is, Teddy would have to put Mike on 99 or perhaps turning his flush into a bluff. There’s no way Mike could have A9 on that board and that action. A9 is 100% a call on that board and should never be shoved.
$25k buyin... but self dealt...
in the old school underground club yes....lol
Lol that’s what I was thinking this dudes name is kgb but they let him touch those cards lol no way
the cards are shuffled then placed on the table, the deck rotates between the players and each person each takes turns dealing, that way there is no one person controlling the deck and its all equal, if you deal yourself a bad hand you cant complain.
@@pek5117 thanks for explaining the meaning of self dealt.
@@pek5117 I have played a lot of live, underground, and home poker games. Everything including $5 buy in .05/.10 has had a dedicated dealer. Would be very surprised if any game that was that big was self dealt. If there are people around someone will deal.
The cool detail of the boxing match on behind them as the two players figuratively duke it out together.
Everytime I watch this scene I get a craving for Oreos
that's a great takeaway from all this.
It’s the way he listens to the two sides snap apart. It’s...sensual.
NACHO ACOSTA I know right? But oreos are a caloric disaster and I managed to quit a couple years ago and been clean ever since
LOL!
THAT'S HIS MISTAKE
This movie helped me win a lot of money playing poker. It got me to look into poker to the point I was studying all the time daily. I had bought tons of books and was a 2+2 member, and was talking strategy daily. To this day I still make very very good money playing poker. I started playing poker in 2006, and have never had a losing year in poker, and I have this movie to thank for getting me interested in poker. I really enjoyed the movie as well, it was very entertaining to me.
That's fine, maybe think about the lives you ruined to make that money.
How many of those you beat were betting their kids college, or rent money.
How many went onto kill themselves.
You seem quite proud of yourself too. Amazing.
do you play online or travel to WSOP any?
Must play small limits. Not a single professional poker player has had 20 years straight of winning 🤣
You sound like a loser
At least he cant blame the dealer.
Lmao
Can't trust a dude that eats Oreos without milk. Only a maniac does that.
LoLoLoL
Would you trust him any more if he ate them with vodka?
oreo when has no milk ☠️
I eat my oreos with coffee
I eat the cookie of the oreo's and scrape off the middle icing to throw away. I'm insane.
Love this movie. So many tense moments but the most tense moments don't come from the cards. They come from Worm's presence and him screwing everything up.
It’s odd because the way poker is played now I would put Mike McD on 99 or a bluff. Shoving A9 there wouldn’t even occur to me since it’s such a nonsensical play.
The only mistake here was bankroll management.
John Lee Yeah using rent & tuition money was not too bright.
He didn't care about that, it was a hit and run.
agreed he could've flat called the river, lost, and left up 3 grand
TheRainmaker5179 I don’t think you ever flat call the river there. It’s a cooler, if you flat everything afraid of the stone cold nuts long run you’re missing out on a ton of value. (Especially cuz there’s only one combo of AA in the deck)
Connor Watson Agreed. I'd have went broke on the turn when I filled up. But he should have thought for a second against such a great player.
I got goosebumps when he showed full aces
That's the point.
I got a b o n e r
Full aces lol think you mean aces full
This actually taught me about forcing other players to feel good by thinking about what's in the center and ur oponnent. When I played I tended to only think of my own cards and how good my own cards look
Didn't know Matt Damon was sent directly from Pokerstars
Matt the dumbass sucks at poker both in this movie but more in real life.
@@ariesradke6193 He can afford it tho.
All that glimmer in play. Love the dialogue in this flick
In this scene we saw a young man who lost most of his money and then decided to quit playing poker.
In the final scene we saw a young man who owed money, played poker to save his life, won, and kept playing only because the other guy baited him.
matti boy didn´t learn too much in that movie.
no, he learned not to be scared and quit
I think you mean “Mikey boy”. Because that’s the character’s name.
Just remember: "everything you do at the poker table conveys information"
Even before you reach sometimes
lol
thank you Daniel
Also, you can't be all loosey goosey having a sandwich
Cant be all loosey goosey eating oreos
This is at least realistic poker hand. Usually in the movies everybody has a monster hand like in James Bond.
Samuli Nieminen Boat over boat is a monster hand too lol
For real. Where's all the K-2, and J-9 hands, and all the 3-9-10 flops?
Literally just played the same hand yesterday with my brother. He had 9-5 and I had k-6 flop comes out k-k-9 next card is 9 last card is like a 5 or something. I slow play slight raise, he raises big then I go all in. He calls thinking he gets me with 9’s full and I bust out Kings full. Shit happens a lot honestly
Yeah, I was on the losing end of that before. First game I stepped into, first hand of the night, suited 5-6. Community dealt through, 5-5-6-J-K spade heavy. Three all-ins. Guy next to me was A-high flush, I turn over the 5-over boat. Dude across from me throws out pocket 6s. Thankfully it was a pub league. Nothing ventured, nothing lost.
In Casino Royale he didn't end with a monster hand though, he had a 57s he got a straight flush.
that's what you get for putting the cards down like that
Worst poker dealer on the planet lol
Holding the deck with the bottom card exposed
and matt damon flips over quads and this movie never reaches cult status
Such a freaking great film and a fantastic cast!

You mean like die hard?
Every time I see KGB string bet it makes my skin crawl!
I would never trust a 25K Hold'em game that was self dealt. At these limits, you should have more than enough money to hire some dealers 😒
You don't even have to pay dealers, tips alone would be enough to get Top notch dealers
Not really. When you're playing against the mob you wont wanna get caught cheating would you? and the mob don't want to get caught cheating either because no one would play in their gaffe ever again. true men don't cheat anyway, only a loser cheats, proper men have a code of honour.
or you can just pay attention to the dealer.. he dealt himself the cooler hand
@@alzapiedi2 In this hand it was Damons character dealing. He dealt himself a monster but did the same for KGB? and didn't think to lay it down? i mean some people are dumb, but stupid enough to lose 33k like that? haha.

Best scene of all poker movies
Matt is so legit in this movie.
This movie never gets old
believe it or not this is the first time i saw this movie
When the money gets big and becomes leverage, it literally represents time and large parts of your life at stake. Major decisions have consequences and gambling just crams that reality into sharp turns and sharp results.
Makes me want to watch the film...again.
It always got me mad that this exclusive poker room for high rollers doesn't even have a dealer at the table
Yes, a game like that would always hire a dealer. Otherwise it's just going to attract card sharks.
This scene is more realistic than the last scene
Of course this is simply a brutal cooler, they both have amazing hands Mike never even considers Teddy could have Aces. I have lost to hands like this, even when you know it's possible, you just can't get away from it. His only way to "win" was to call Teddy, not to re-raise all-in.
Thank you for the 21:9 video!!!!
Classic movie!
I like how they collected the pot before Damon flipped his hand over; KGB just walked away. Damon could have had 99 for quads and won the hand.
As the movie points out… everything you do conveys information about your hand. He did not convey a good hand
@@sorvex9 Shoving with 9's full because you think you're going to win the pot, and you think Damon didn't convey he had a good hand? LOL what?
James Bond would've had 9s. But this film actually shows realistic hands (a full house, beaten by a bigger full house; happened to me several times).
If he had 99, it would've been an instant showdown when KGB called the all-in, or else that would be a hell of a slowroll. And nobody would dare to slowroll KGB.
The best part of this magnificent scene?
“Get up.”
Joey Knish
When I was a kid, James Bond Casino Royale came out. I watched that movie thinking that every hand I should be getting at least a full house. And after playing poker a few times, I got so frustrated at how "boring" it was haha.
This scene does a much better job at showing poker and how it really looks.
Dude at the end is a great friend, sticking by him like that
I can’t possibly pretend that Matt Damon isn’t wearing a wig in this movie.
What I don’t understand is if Mike’s dream was to play in the WSOP then why didn’t he just go to Vegas and play in the tourney. He had $30,000 🤦🏻♂️
The buy-in is only $10,000 WTF
This. This all fucking day.
-has $30k
-wants to go to Vegas
-instead bets his entire bankroll on a backroom russian KGB game
-is surprised when russians take all money
Hookers and blow for a week can run more than double that. Can't go to Vegas without covering that too.
the buy in is only 10 k wtf????
@Not in use Anymore so that means anyone can go there with 10k and participate?
@@JICM25 And that's just the main event. There's almost 100 events at the wsop this year with plenty of buy ins being much lower than 10k.

Always wondered in a game that big why no dealers at KGB's place..... I've played at many underground Manhattan establishments and they all had dealers
You never played in underground games. The closest you came to that is playing someone from manhatten on poker stars.
They dont have dealer because they can cheat. Card marking and false shuffling. Dont play private game . They gonna cheat you. Just go to casino
Michael Vu plenty of very reputable private games out there. You just have to do your homework and know what your getting into.
Yea but then whoever’s running the game is gonna easily cheat you. If they’re not in the hand they pay someone to play the part and then the dealer feeds them monster hands. Would make no sense for that
They don’t want to deal with the rake I guess
Reminds me when I was 18 watching this with my buddies then driving 5hrs to the closest Indian casino.
NOlmets jeez imagine losing in like 30 mins that car rides a bitch
This is the best scene in the movie.
John Malkovich eating an Oreo is enough trigger for me to add this video to my ASMR favorites list.
As one Kenneth Rogers once sang...”You got to know when to fold’em”
Quad 9’s are the stone cold nuts right? I wonder if there was a tell that made KGB so confident Mike didn’t have pair 9’s after the turn.
Well mike would have been crazy to fold on a full house. Sometimes you got a good hand but the other guy just has a better hand, and there is no right move.
Sick...
I'm totally a sci-fi guy but Rounders is a absolutely great film if it's not in my Top 10 it's damn close
Me and my brother were set-up during a friendly no-limit game $100 buy-in six players. They set the cards up before we got there. First hand I had pocket kings he had pocket aces. The flop Ace, King, Nine two suited. The turn nine unsuited. The River possible flush. We both ended up going all in. Everyone else folded. When we turned our cards over we both laughed because we knew that we were set-up. The second hand was actually the first hand of the game.
If it was set up why didn’t they give themselves the flush or something?
I did that once AK vs AA and flop came AK9. I played it just like he did and got my ass handed to me. There's no way you can fold top two pairs and make a full house on the turn. The only way you fold is if you got superman's eye vision. Hands like that is going to happen, you just wish to be the better hand.
I was playing in a 500 dollar buy-in bounty tournament at my local Casino and was somewhat short stacked on the cash bubble with AK. Flop came KK10. Unfortunately I was up against pocket 10s. Luckily the 15 people who made the cash each gave me a 25 dollar bounty chip to lesson the blow for being the last player to not cash.
Lucky you. That didn't happen to me. Mine was a local No Limit hold'em at a local casino.
In tourney's we play we almost always make a bubble price. Just enough to get the buy in back.
Heads up I'll usually call an opponents raise when holding Aces just to trap. You know a CBet will come.
wait so you had 3 Ks and he had 3 10s? how did you lose?
Best opening scene ever in a movie.

His wisdom was he outplayed the best in one hand (as later explained later in the film) and thought he was hot shit after beating the fish at lower limits and playing tight against Johnny chan for an hour and a half and outplayed him one hand. He then decides to play his entire bankroll against the sharks here. Yes, he kinda got unlucky with the second 9 (if that didn’t come out in the turn, he might’ve got away from it) but he played way to aggressively for what he had.
