    The name came from when I first signed up on UA-cam. Everything I tried was already taken. Out of frustration I typed in GREENPUKE (Shades of The Exorcist). Unbelievably, it too was taken. Threw 99 on the end and here I am.
    I am in the process of writing out all the weird things that happened. We also lived in South West Ohio at the time. I'm no writer, so I'm trying to include as much detail as possible without including too much minutiae that doesn't add to the story. I'm sure you'll have to edit it still.

    The class could do a study of food sources that the Bigfoot would eat. Besides animals there are wild tubers and berries and they could break down the nutritional value of the items to determine the daily calories a Bigfoot would consume

    • @RuinedTemple

    The grade school assignments are fun to think about!
    What about exploring what a Bigfoot could be eating depending on location and time of year it was spotted?

    Hi Nance,
    I am a 4th grade teacher in NJ and I do a similar project with my kids, but I teach my kids about crypto zoology. Then we become crypto zoologists and the kids get to research different types of crpytids and they have to do research project on it. They do a slide show presentation on the crpytid they choose to research. Then they have to write an opinion paper on why they do or why they do not believe in their crpytid. What evidence supports their stance. Then the kids get into groups and debate for or against crpytids. It is a whole lesson we do.

    Great stories tonight Nance, as always! 😀
    To your teacher friend, I'm from Kanawha County, West Virginia Charleston the Capital City to be exact, so this I take this assignment close to heart 💜 📝 👣😎 and writing stories👩‍💻 about Bigfoot is something I like to do and I like journalism too. How about asking the children to look up stories about the Sasquatch or as they were called back in the 17 and 1800s" The Hairy Wild Man in the Woods" There are many to find, from lumber companies doing excursions into West Virginia and Minnesota for the first time to clear land rights and finding Sasquatch there capturing them and trying to bring them back into captivity and civilization to posse's being sent out to find wild men living out in woods that were stealing livestock or destroying crops or that were accosting people traveling along the roadways. And that they actually did find kill or capture said persons or beings by men mounted on horses. And it was all documented in the newspapers. Stories from Lewis and Clark coming across them cited from a far crossing rivers, wagon trains crossing the plains having a horse is scared, hearing howls in the night that were not wolves or coyotes( these were encounters without an actual sighting)
    There are stories from Native Americans and many Tribes and how they got along with them and also with wars with the Sabe/Sasquatch/ Giants
    And where did the name Bigfoot come from? I think it was from a man in California in the 1960s. , I think it was. There's an interesting story altogether. 👣👣👣
    Or should they actually interview a person who has seen one.? I have seen one on multiple occasions.. and so had my parents but they have both passed on, but I know their stories.
    Should these children try to interview people and their town that may have seen any? To ask their grandparents check local folklore check their newspapers or their local library for stories?
    Let's create some future,good journalists. 🕵️‍♂️👨‍💻🕵️‍♀️👩‍💻
    And then it's how present day media treats stories about Sasquatch and how they make fun of people. Tell them they're crazy whenever they report whenever they say they see a Bigfoot. They try to tell them oh you saw a bear, or you didn't see anything at all, and it was all in your mind. Everything's funny about it now. They make movies about it now, like Harry and the Hendersons 👣. And everything is lighthearted.
    I'm not trying to make anything scary for 5th graders. The teacher can make the assignments as in depth as she likes. I'm just saying that there's a lot of information out there to be had. 📃📋📖📚📜📝🗞️📰👩‍💻👨‍💻🖱️
    Some folks are ridiculed. ( But not here, Nance)
    Let's create some future,good journalists. 🕵️‍♂️👨‍💻🕵️‍♀️👩‍💻

    I was a 6th grade teacher. It might not be 5th grade appropriate. I brought in a giant cardboard bigfoot footprint. We measured the length and width of it and put a fraction on the board. They measured each others feet to plug into the fraction. Then we set up a ratio between the feet and other body parts. . Their assignment was to figure out how tall , wide, arm length and even weight would be to a bigfoot by using their measurements. Then they made posters of a bigfoot sighting with a picture and the proportions on the poster. They could do their own poster, but they did the math in pairs. Its mor for 6th grade, but it could be adapted to 5th. Use a calculator if needed.

      Or possibly make it retaliate, turning that smack on top of his truck to some serious fist pounds or worse.
      One may want to remember that Sasquatch have been reported to be quick to startle or upset, & they may have sensitive ears & eyes, so sudden & unexpected very loud unfamiliar sounds might hurt their ears & bright flashes of light might hurt their eyes or mess with their vision.
      Hitting the panic button could also confuse, surprise, frighten, anger, upset, or excite them.
      It might even trigger a protective response from an alpha male if his mate/family is nearby or from a mother with young nearby.
      There’s a risk of it leading to a physical or possibly even physically violent action carried out by the Sasquatch.
      I think I’d want to be in the driver’s seat & ready to roll just in case instead of hoping for the best after punching the panic button from the bed while I’m still in my sleeping bag.

    Hi Nance & Sasquad- really enjoyed hearing the experiences this evening. How cool 😎 is it that Katherine has created such an engaging program for the 5th graders. I would have loved this! I’m not sure what all is entailed but what about a camping trip with several parents involved to help? Boys camp & girls camp to document events and sounds at night. I would have loved to have done something like that at their age. I did do something similar when I was a girl scout - we camped for the weekend at one of the huge parks in Summit County Ohio (can’t remember) Akron area. Maybe it was by Portage Lakes? Anyway, one of the best memories I have as a young girl - had to be sometime between 1979-81 when I I was 9-11 yrs old. I still have my leaf 🍁 book we created. I grew up in Akron until I moved to Northern Kentucky (13 yrs old) in 1983. Ohio has some beautiful parks in the Northeast or maybe I should say the whole eastern part of the state. I hope you read some of the ideas from other viewers because I think it’s an awesome program! Best of Luck to Kathryn and her students. 👣 ❤ 🍁 🎃

    Hello Nance great stories tonight thank you. Now far as the teacher from West Virginia my home State. Some advice. I had an encounter at Five Rivers Campgrounds. I wasn't looking for Bigfoot. But he or she found me. I'm not sure that children could handle the encounter I had. Use your best judgment. Plus don't try to record video or sound. They know when you are.

    • @RuinedTemple
      @RuinedTemple Рік тому

      I don’t know, I think there are various researchers & residents who’ve been able to leave sound recorders out in an area for the Sasquatch to investigate & they’ve left some interesting audio on those recorders without it compromising the relationship in an obvious way.
      It’s also possible to use parabolic audio recording to capture sounds from much farther away.
      Perhaps the most important thing to do first is to acknowledge that the Sasquatch are in the area, express to them that you are curious about them & their way of life, let them know that you mean to address & communicate with them with the utmost respect, & then perhaps just ask if it’s alright to do whatever it is you plan to do & for an obvious sign that you can understand if it is or isn’t ok that won’t harm or frighten you.
      I think authenticity, transparency, & respect may be 3 very important keys to progressing successful communication with & education of the Sasquatch.

    Lesson idea: get in touch with a local forager to give a lesson on local edible wild plants to explore what a potential Sasquatch could be eating. If you don’t have a foraging group try a local indigenous community or the horticulture department at a nearby college.

    So…interesting story on NF-1217 in the Bull Run. I worked for the Forest Service patrolling the Bull Run as law enforcement/fire fighting in the 1990s. I was in that watershed every day patrolling for people trespassing. You see, the Bull Run is locked up, locked gates across all access roads into the watershed. The public was not allowed, only Portland Water Department and Forest Service. I patrolled looking for fire and anyone in there who wasn’t supposed to be there. If I did, they were ticketed. Forest Road 1217 is well inside the locked area. So unless the rules have changed in the last 20 years, it would be a major challenge to get a truck in there to camp.
    That said, in my time working in the area, I never had a sighting or heard anything. I did have several experiences of feeling dread and being watched. Had I kept working there I imagine I would have had an experience. Other Forest Service employees had told of sightings.

      So, I am now wondering, too. How do you even FIND Forestry roads? Maybe that sounds silly, but i really don't know. I've not been to the Pacific Northwest, and we mostly have state parks here. Could he have mistaken the road number? Is there one close to it?
      OR - could that be why he was worried about parking out of sight? He did mention that he has been "bothered" by park workers before.
      Is there any way he could have gotten back there? (I assume so, since you say your job was to patrol for trespassers - or were you wandering on foot off the roads because no one could get a vehicle back there?)
      Hmm. Now I'm full of questions, too. I'm going to email him and see what he says!
      Thanks! 😁

      In this case, if you are looking for this particular road on a map, you would need a Mount Hood National Forest map. I just Googled Mount Hood National Forest Map. The first hit was a US Forest Service page that has both digital and paper maps available.

    • @TheBruceGday
      @TheBruceGday Рік тому

      I referenced ZigZag, Oregon. There are several little villages grown together at that spot. ZigZag, Welches, Mount Hood Village, are all there. LoLo Pass Road heads northeast out of Zigzag past the Forest Service Ranger Station.

    • @TheBruceGday
      @TheBruceGday Рік тому

      The Bull Run Watershed is locked off to protect the water supply for Portland. Bull Run Watershed encompasses nearly all federal Forest land in the area bounded by US Route 26 to the south, LoLo Pass Road to the east, I-84/US Route 30 to the north, and a line from the town or Sandy, Oregon north to I-84. There are some areas of private land. Also areas along the major highways are not locked off. There are hiking trails trailheads, scenic waterfalls, campgrounds and such that are open to the public in that area.

    • @TheBruceGday
      @TheBruceGday Рік тому

      Last comment for now, to the south of Mount Hood Village runs Salmon River Road. There are campgrounds and trailheads in there as well. Surrounding that road on all sides is the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness area. This area and along that road are also pretty well-known for encounters.

    Now I have a great idea for the 5th graders. I do work with children and I enjoy there age of thinking. I’m a campus supervisor one day and I’m an assistant on another day. Now here’s my idea!!!
    Each 5th grader or group can make their own game up… rules, markers, cards, and other things to be about Bigfoot Sasquatch facts! Make it fun. Make it play able for everyone to play…. Maybe for the rest of the school year!!!! They can also make copies so they can take it home to play with their family and friends outside of their school. 😊

    Maybe someone from a bigfoot research team. Bring casts of footprints, hair, pictures video. Question and answer session with students. Or have them interview older people who have lived there for an assignment. Give them questions to ask as a guide but get an encounter if they can. Record on phone or Camera.

    It’s great that this teacher is educating her students about Sasquatch, but I hope they won’t be out in the woods Squatching! That being said- maybe the teacher can show them how to cast small animal footprints, and tell them how adult researchers use plaster casting when they find Bigfoot prints. 🤷‍♀️ Best wishes to them! 💖🦍

    For the class project our momma sasquatch says get candy orange slices and paper dolls and put them around the edge of the trees. Their young live those. They will allow the young to briefly show themselves to get them to the children. Momma says to tell the teacher thank you for this. It will show the children they don't have to be afraid of momma and her kind. Please just don't let the children go near the young or their papa's get very protective because of human dads tend to shoot first.

    That’s awesome. I wish we had something like that in school! And that’s even more cool, the class goes out into the forest behind the school on a Bigfoot “walk”. The teachers & other adults involved should “decorate” in the woods, prior to their walk. Like set up some stick structures, stacked rocks, break some tree branches (as high as possible) as territory or trail markers. Maybe even replicate a “bedding area” (under a stick structure or bush), where a Sasquatch could’ve slept… and scatter some fake fur, or some shredded coconut husk as “hair”. Animal bones could work, too…fake or chicken bones or something...fish bones even.
    Also, it would be cool to have some other volunteers do some “tree knocks” or rock-smacking, somewhat off in the distance, but close enough for them to hear. Maybe even some hoots or samurai chatter!
    Anything evidence-related that the kids read or hear about, maybe from the encounters they listen to, they could try to replicate for their eventual walk in the forest. The class could take notes in an evidence journal or something, to discuss later, plus take pictures of what they find, and determine if it’s real indicative “proof”. lol

    Very cool for the class! How about the class doing some interviews with people, and applying critical thinking skills on stories or peoples thoughts, review what else the encounter could have been and why. Maybe have a police investigator, teach a few skills to the students on how to interview and how to ask questions, what evidence would there be or how to look for evidence. Just a thought.

      Great idea! There have been a lot of suggestions about interviewing family members. I think that's something they would enjoy, especially since it begins a conversation between generations! Folklore is a large part of our culture in Appalachia, so I think that would be perfect. Thank you!
