He's talking from both perspectives. His own before performing a show AND the las Vegas shooter. You're son did you a small disservice in his description. Love your reactions!.

Haha a large disservice. You're not supposed to know it's about any shooting until the shooter breaks the window. That's the whole point. Love your reactions though.

Just adding to that with a lil more clarity is the point that we don’t know it’s about the shooting leads us to believe that it’s just Em rapping about him before a show then the kicker being that it was a double (a triple to some) the entire time.
Him knowing it was about the shooting takes away sooo much from this entire masterpiece BUT in saying that his Son obviously meant to only give warning for his Fathers sake and not to do that innocent disservice to him regarding Darkness.

I'm a little sad your son told you about the mass shooting before viewing. This entire song is a double entendre. It can be from a viewpoint of Eminem's stage fright and what he feels before going on stage, and at the same time almost every bar could also be from the viewpoint of the Vegas incident. Thanks for the video.

the genius of this song is that he is talking about himself and his feelings, and the parallels in his life to a monster like the las vegas shooter. every single line in this song has a double meaning, hes literally telling 2 stories simultaneously. I feel bad you had the las vegas theme shooter subplot ruined, because listening to this song for the first time, thinking hes talking about himself, and then the climax hits and you realize you have been listening to a completely different song was mind blowing the firs time.. i still get chills whenever i hear this song

Obviously all verses are about both but the weight seems to shift slightly. Dope song anyways. I was confused at first cause first I understood it's about him but then I got more and more of a feeling it's about a shooting and I was wondering whether it's about Vegas, which proved to be true. Amazing writing to get both perspectives into the same lines

Learning that there are levels of complexity to Em for sure. As I learn more about him and his approach, I’m catching more of his intricacies on some of the double entendres, for example. Darkness was reacted to quite a while ago and sat on the shelf waiting for block release. I think that had I watched it for the first time now, I might have picked up on those double meanings. Glad that I’m learning so much about this living legend… Also, reading the comments people post allows me to interact with the channel's community. The bad part is that there are MANY spoilers out there that ask for a review and give a spoiler. Hard to avoid them...

It's really beautiful to watch your reactions. I found your channel maybe like 2 months ago and I really love it, the authenticity, the intensity of your emotions, you really feel the songs and I guess that's making a lot of us feel like we're hearing those songs for the first time again through you:) there are a lot more things to learn about and discover and as you do so, you'll get better and better at deciphering his craft. I guess because of the excitement that you're getting into Eminem, we get a bit carried away and forget that you don't have all the background 😅 when he first came out, his songs were mostly face value and told a great story but you didn't have to stop and think wait..does he also mean this? But as he evolved he turned into a different monster, a genius of homophones, double, triple, quadruple entendres, flow switches, internal rhymes and so on. So you'll have plenty of more opportunities to delve into these types of songs:) Anyway, sorry for the novel, thank you for giving Em a chance and looking forward to the next video 😁

I love your eminem reactions so much.
I ask that as you progress through his music, start looking deeper into the meaning of the lyrics. as great as the story is, its really his lyricism, word crafting, rhyme scheme, and the double and triple entendres that make eminem so so special.
He was telling 2 stories at the same time and you completely missed one of them. Its hard as a newcomer to rap to figure it out.
One easy example was at 11:23 he says "as I reach for the scope" you can see a bottle of scope mouthwash and a literal rifle scope on the same counter. It was a double entendre. There are tons and tons of these in all of his music. and when you catch them, you just start to understand how actually complex his lyrics and rhyme scheme is.

You were sorta right at the 8min Mark of the video, the Song and also the way the video was produced was meant to be a Double Entendre between the Las Vegas shooter and Eminems feelings and anxieties before performing at a concert, especially when he was still using drugs and alcohol.. he also Raps into a Triple Entendre in some parts while mentioning the Crowd Perspective as well.. You'll find the more you dig into his music he has lots of Double entendres in his music.

After his near-death from a drug overdose, he went on a musical hiatus for a long time and then came back with a CD called Relapse. He hates that album cause he did a lot of accents on it and he just hates it. He came out with this album and addresses it, his drug use apologizes to fans for disappearing etc.

Just found your channel recently, and just wanted to say, I've been a huge fan of eminems work since slim shady lp, and love watching reaction videos to his music. Unfortunately due to how big of a name he is, reaction videos to his music is a pretty easy way for reaction channels to get views/attention so a lot of them seem to capitalize on that and don't feel genuine. It's been really cool discovering your channel and watching someone who feels genuine and also is just really diving into his cataloge for the first time. Brings back a lot of memories of how it felt hearing a lot of these songs the first time. The later in his career you go, the more his lyrics have 2,3, and sometimes even four separate meanings all at the same time. It also gets more and more away from shock value "empty" lyrics and more into social commentary, and more into his legacy and the state of the rap game he helped somuch to shape.
For me, that shift has made his last 4-5 albums some of the best lyrically across all genres. This entire song was a double ente dre through the first 2 verses and I feel is one of his best of all time when combined with the video. He has a couple other songs now where the entire song is a double entendre.

The thing about Em's lyricism is his use of double, triple, quadruple entendres.
On the surface, it sounds like he's talking about someone else, but in reality, he's talking about himself at the same time.
It adds depth to his songs. It becomes more impactful if you can catch all his different meanings in the majority of his bars.

I saw it the first time the night it dropped and was catching all the double entendres about guns because I like to shoot in general. Targets, tannerite, occasionally a deer, rabbit, or squirrel, but I'm very supportive of gun control when it comes to assault rifles and fully autos and whatnot, including mental health checks before the sale is complete.
"Ammo for all the hecklers" = H&K, Heckler and Koch, a gun manufacturer. The Colt .45 line is obvious, like "reach for the Scope," but his line about bananas, he's talking about banana clips, a type of magazine that can hold a lot more ammo than the standard mag that came with the gun, etc etc, but only mostly gun owners like myself probably got those. Still, they were all very clever and well thought out, and he still managed to break my heart and make me cry by the end of it.

one other thing, and obly thing that used to irritate me about eminem is also his use of double negatives - but i have since learned to overlook them. He doesnt do it on purpose as a form of art, its just what he grew up with i guess- like when someone says You don't owe me nothing - literally that means you owe me something - but i guess thats just me being pedantic

I’ve listened to this track about a few thousand times. Even though critics say it has no replay value. You were asking (rhetorically, I think) why people who do these mass murders/suicides don’t start with themselves. The use of Simon and Garfunkel in the background perfectly describes the darkness. But Em offers a suggestion of an answer to the question with the lines “I don’t want to be alone in the darkness”. There seems to be a certain type of suicidal people who are afraid of dying alone, who want to leave their mark, who blame the world and bad luck for their misery, and they don’t want to go out quietly.

It's a double entendre the entire song because he as a rapper is the one going on stage to tear up the stage but the venue is not maxed out but at the same time it also refers to the shooter. The entire song is done this way.

I love all of your content. I really hope the Eminem content keeps coming our way throughout! (Don’t get me wrong though, I love your other content too!) and you yourself also comes across as a tremendously decent guy! It’s always nice to see good and authentic people on UA-cam! Thank you sir!
p.s I heard a quote once that there’s ‘lyrics’ people and there’s ‘music’ people… now, I’d argue that I’m both, considering I love the music/beats/instruments/moods of music themselves, and I love classical music and there’s usually no lyrics in that, but the term ‘lyrics’ people sticks out to me because to my own surprise, I’ve found that people don’t always pay attention to lyrics in songs… or just don’t pick up on them… but my mind is acutely aware of lyrics when a song comes on and that reminds me of what you were saying here in this video about yourself being aware of lyrics in songs!

I'm kinda surprised that many of the eminem songs that you are playing are also my first time hearing the track. I work so much and am on the phone so much that I don't get time to watch TV or take much time out for myself. I always seem to be either working or helping someone else with life issues making me I guess a workaholic. I just listened to this song and deja vu for the first time. I can tell you that it takes something uncanny and someone special to be able to put yourself in someone else's shoes and to make a sensible song out of it. I know eminem is a very talented and sensitive artist who can captivate his audience with his genius.
I personally think I have that gift to put myself in almost any situation and imagine what it it would be like to be in that situation at that moment. I don't really know how to explain it. An example is that every movie, animated or not, I get captivated in the movie so much that I get emotional as if this was something I was really encountering in real life. Along with that I am also able to obtain 90% or more predictability for the movie. It's so weird to others around me that I have this ability and sensitivity that people kinda feel like I have a 6th sense and it weird them out. Does this make sense? I'm not going to elaborate any more about this at this time as I don't want you or anyone else thinking I'm psycho.

This song scares me though, because I don't want to reach that point where I do something like this. I feel it would be better for me to off myself before I hurt anyone else. It just becomes I point where it's finally no going back, and "I'm dying tonight, no matter what." Scares me a ton. 19:13 Thank you! Thank you for broaching the subject. It’s a topic not many want to address or it gets too polarized. You had such a delicate and kind way of approaching things and still spoke about owning arms.
I personally am ALL for the second ammendment. Heck, I’m looking into possibly getting a gun and learning how to shoot (target practice…just because I would love the competitive aspect.) I’m also not opposed to having one for self defense if ever there comes a time I really feel the need.
I loved how you approached this. So many reactors I watched were immediately put off once the whole gun law thing came up. I don’t think Eminem is anti guns. I personally am not either (as the above likely demonstrated lol.) BUT do I think there could be better …IDK, ways of keeping this sort of thing from happening? Some sort of middle ground? Yeah. Now, is it gonna be easy? Heck no =\ I just feel so much sorrow, anger, …everyhing…for those who are victims of such violence but ALSO for those who may have people come at them simply because they own a gun (and are law abiding, take care, practice gun safety etc)
This recent shooting at the high school that happened a few weeks ago threw everyone into a tizzy again. I just…I’m babbling. I just think there has to an answer…something that doesn’t take away people’s rights to bear arms but also one that lowers the incidence of these horrible events.

I think with your reactions people are more so attracted to them because you’re giving your honest, genuine opinion and actually enjoying what you are doing which shines through as opposed to channels like Elders React where most of them hear the word rap and just shut their ears off and go to the default “This is garbage because I didn’t grow up with it” attitude.
In this song the whole thing is a double entendre. He is talking about the Vegas shooter and gun control, but the parallel of his own life in how he grew up and his addiction and that if he didn’t discover Hip-Hop as a kid how differently things could have turned out and how his story has so much in common with these shooters that he could have ended up being one of them. Also, he is breaking up words to make them rhyme better like with the word “idea”, he broke it up “I-Dea” rhyming it with “Show Ya” in the next line.

A lot of people have point it out about the double entendre in a lot of Eminem's songs and it's okay if you dont get them right away. It's okay if people have to explain it to you. Eminem is a genius and even the fans sometimes need to watch videos of people breaking down eminem's songs to fully get everything that he's saying (especially the culture/rap because Em's fans are from all around the world, or new, and we definitely not always keep updated with the rap world)
And about your explanation in the beginnin, it's pretty awesome knowing that you actually have somekind of a spreadsheet for songs that are requested 😁 it shows that you care and serious about doing this job. But as someone who's been watching youtube all of my life, if I may give you some heads up, as your channel grows, there will be assholes. Like just straight up garbage people that will make stupid comments and insults instead of being a mature human being and kind. And i hope you prepare for that and not pay any attention because usually it will drain your emotion.
You're doing great and you cant make everyone happy. As long as you're just being you and try to do your best, everything's cool. Oh and also, pls ask your son not to give too many info when it comes to Em's double entendre. Because one of the fun of watching people's reaction to Eminem's song is to see how much they catch what Eminem's saying hehe
See you and have a great day, sir

Learning that there are levels of complexity to Em for sure. As I learn more about him and his approach, I’m catching more of his intricacies on some of the double entendres, for example. Darkness was reacted to quite a while ago and sat on the shelf waiting for block release. I think that had I watched it for the first time now, I might have picked up on those double meanings. Glad that I’m learning so much about this living legend… Also, reading the comments people post allows me to interact with the channel's community. The bad part is that there are MANY spoilers out there that ask for a review and give a spoiler. Hard to avoid them...
