My wife has been instructed to play the final 10 minutes of this Reba at my funeral. I prefer it to all of the great Rebas in the Phish canon, including the epic Montreal performance on 7/6/94. Since the day I first heard it, it has been my favorite piece of improvised music. After nearly 20 years, it still gives me goosebumps and nearly moves me to tears. If you get it, you get it. If you don't, I feel bad for you.
My hometown of Glens Falls. The Reba and Divided Sky are still the best versions ever IMO, this last section of Reba is beyond words, one of my all time favorites Reba 10.31.94 Halleys 12/7/99 Harry Hood 11.22.97 7 below -> Ghost Albany NY 11-09 Bathtub Gin Great Went 97 My 5
@John Porter I get it. I've watched these 10 minutes so many time but never scrolled into the comments. Nice to read yours. These ten minutes are my favorite improv piece too. They play off each other so well and then at like 6 minutes let Trey lead while still doing so much in the background. They all know their roles so well, and the roles change constantly. I've only seen 3.0 due to age but I've been listening to this reba since high school. It has happiness, tragedy, jealousy, heartbreak, love and so much more all in one.
I dont care how much more technical any other players out there are compared to Trey. This has to be the most well-paced, masterfully constructed solo guitar piece in recorded history. I will take that one to the grave. Nobody can convince me otherwise.
what a great night, i remember it so well. drove quite a ways for the show, scored a ticket outside (40 bucks) and was blown away! 15 years ago, wow, i'm getttin' old. great venue, was so small, you could pretty much go wherever you wanted. highlight was trey playing the opener with a mask on, then flinging it off and tearing it up!
I saw an interview with Clapton years ago, and the interviewer asked him what it felt like to be the world's greatest guitarist. He aptly replied "I wouldn't know, perhaps you should ask Trey Anastasio."
During the rest after the jam you can see Trey look over to Fishman like ‘holy shit dude’. After playing something like that it must be a feeling I would like to hear him describe.
Not even going to attempt to argue witch perfection is more perfect but EVERYONE needs to check out 05-08-93 UNH Fieldhouse Durham NH Definately in my top 5 favorite Rebas
@ nogas: I definitely agree with you, though I would like to add 12/31/93 hood to that same soundtrack...that is the only other piece of music that can pull me in as much as this reba.
bah I was at the IT Reba, it was touching, but in my oppinion this is out of it's league, 1:40=page brings the magic... I'm rather stuborn on this haha, if anyone knows of some other good ones let me know some dates!
I don't really remember what you were referencing on that quote. I think it was some show from 97 though. Great year, but laughable when someone uses that year as an example of "best show ever." Earlier Phish destroys later Phish.
Wow- I followed these guys most of 95, then saw them sporadically in the SE during 96 and 97. Damn I had to come back to reality and the obligations of trying to get my degree sometime... Makes my ego lose itself just watching this shit- wait here it is, no there it goes again...
Respectfully I will disagree with your statement I would go...1. Glens Falls....2. MSG 95 .3.... Worcester 93...4.Clifford Ball.....5. IT....just two cents though...Glens Falls is beyond the prime of epcot...btw later on.... the one from Miami 12/29/09 is no slouch either...just two cents once again but to each his own......
I liked trey when under the influence. U, my friend have way too much time on your hands. My advice to you, is to get a job sir. The bums will always lose, you hear me Lebowksi, the bums will always lose. I love Phish.
29 years later and this is just as incredible as it was that night. Phish in the second half of 94 is really something special.
this may very well be the most glorious piece of live music ever recorded

I don't know that I've ever seen Trey so focussed on his guitar and playing. It really shows. That solo leaves nothing more to be desired.
The most powerful reba I have had the joy of listening to

There is nothing else that comes close.
Yeah, one of the greatest ever for sure. I would never argue with anyone who places this one at #1. Just perfection. The tone too.. ughhh

Reba Dever - 12.31.1995 - also incredible - do yourself a big favor and hear that one if you have not!
During the rest after the jam you can see Trey look over to Fishman like ‘holy shit dude’. After playing something like that it must be a feeling I would like to hear him describe.
