  • REAX takes a look at the new Skylotec Sirius Descender and runs through some of the key features and functions you need to know about! We really like this descender and think it is a very strong contender in the rope access world for the current market leader the Petzl ID.

    Great video, you speak clearly and really showed most, if not all the features of this device. It's much smaller then the ID, what year did they come out? And where is it made? Thank you for your video, Jim.

      Hi Jim, the device is manufactured by Skylotec in Germany. It was released about 3 years ago now. We're so glad you enjoyed the video. We love the Sirius and use it in our training centre for most of our rope rescue courses. Although we still cover the ID as it's more common!

    I used to use petzl stop instead of petzl ID for for descender but now I I am using Sirius as a descender.what I find is petzl stop is way more easier to use but the petzl ID and Sirius is way more safer I Am not saying petzl id and Sirius are bad but I prefer using petzl stop for my descender most of the time.ty anyway for this video cheers mate

      What's it like for jugging up compared to an ID/Rig?

    I use the top becket for DRT. Only descender I am aware of with a top becket to accommodate DRT. Can use it for ascent with the top becket with a RAD and go up with ease.

      @@erichter131 I'm Japanese. And unfortunately, foreigners can't get a high-rise window cleaning job in Japan.
      I used Eight-ring at first. After that, I used Petzl 's Rig.
      The advantage of using Sirius is that the rope is not kinked after use.

    I'm not a climber nor have any of those, but my question is, is it possible to insert the tensioned rope into the sirius descender?

    • @jeremycahoon6840
      @jeremycahoon6840 Рік тому

      No, I don't think it's possible. I think the Taz Lov 3 is the only descender that allows for a tensioned rope to be inserted into the device.

      10-12mm for EN 12841 C,
      ANSI and EN 341 are 11mm, and I believe newer models are also rated as a belay device according to EN 15151 for diameters 9-11mm, both static and dynamic ropes. Not quite sure on the last part, my Sirius is from 11/2020, and doesn't have that marking. The new Spark (Sirius without panic feature) definitely is certified to EN 15151 though, and I'm reasonably certain the newer Sirius's are as well.
