Sorry, you have got that one wrong if you had walked another 10 m you would've actually got to pottery cottage, it is the furthest one in the block when you recorded from the premier in car park, got the nearest one, you can identify this because it has got the original name on a plaque if you just walked another 10 m mad Billy dumped the to prison officers and the taxi driver about a mile from the red lion pub, he crashed the taxi further down the road, he then crossed the more fires the plantation and he seen pottery cottage from the group of trees and headed down to the rear of the property, anyway, well done, I enjoyed the video so I have also subscribed. Keep up the good work..
I live in Chesterfield, not far from where this happened! Still remember the horror at that time! His body was to be buried in a cemetery near where I lived at the time, but there was a protest
I live in chesterfield, and my wife says when she was at school, her friend invited her to stop the night at her house for a sleepover. This was a few years after these murders. She said it was a very creepy place
This sounds like one of those weird historical mysteries, similar to Hinterkaifeck etc. But it actually happened in 1977 and I'd somehow never heard about it.
I lived and worked in Chesterfield at the time and remember these tragic events well... Iam amazed that pottery cottage was left standing I would have thought that those dwellings would have been demolished and a memorial garden put in place.... RIP ❤️
What a truly horrible story those poor people ,the police have a lot to answer for here they must have known he was dangerous and should have been locked in the back of a prison van not a taxi utterly disgusting. How can anyone in their right mind still live in that house it should have been raised to the ground long ago . May they rip
He should never have had that blade but it was a stupid cost cutting by HM Prison Service transporting remand prisoners by taxi that allowed Hughes to escape. He had committed a rape on a woman and a serious GBH on her boyfriend, the Police knew he was a danger so did the prison service.
This is a really good video. I liked how you walked and talked at the same time, showing us the area. Good job. I have been to Beeley Moor for birding particulaly in early Spring. I'm not from the area, far from it but I have spoken to the locals some of whom remember the case well. I have also done a little research myself and find the area interesting. Some of the buildings are very old. I believe Pottery cottage was made out of gritstone for example and originally was used as a pottery in the 1800s hence the name. It then became a farm and was renamed Northend Farm. When the Morans bought it in 1969 they renamed it back to "Pottery Cottage". In September 1978, a new family bought it for £30,000 and promptly removed the iron sign saying Pottery Cottage and renamed it back to Northend Farm. I also want to add a bit of additional information which I hope is ok with you. When Sarah came home from school, she had just been presented with the school sports prize and was excited to tell her parents and grandparents about it. I always find this very sad. Sarah was a remarkable child and by the accounts I have heard, was intelligent and spirited. She was also very protective over her parents and shouted at Hughes demanding he not hurt them. By all accounts Richard Moran was a really nice guy. Very polite and professional. He worked for Brett Plastics (Now Brett Martin) in Stavely. The building is still there but it's been completely remodelled. I only mention this because Hughes went with Richard & Gillian Moran to Brett Plastics and then stole money from the company safe. His fingerprints were found on the safe later. In your video when you are walking up the road, approaching the three houses, Northend Farm (Pottery Cottage) is the last one of the three. I assume you didn't film it out of privacy concerns and respect to the family who live there now. There is a video of it which was taken in 1977 showing it with the police locking up the garage. Hughes crashed his car (the one he stole after stabbing Simmonds and Sprintall) near Red Lion pub but it is now called the Peak Edge Hotel. I believe also that when Hughes was about to be cremated, the locals protested so it had to be done in secret. R.I.P the 4 victims (Richard and Sarah Moran, Amy & Arthur Minton). I feel very sorry for Gillian Moran. A very brave woman who has endured such tragedy. In 1982 a movie was to be made entitled the Pottery Cottage Murders but the project was scrapped due to public outry. On the prospect of this film being made Gillian said “I’ve had so many sleepless nights worrying that I might have to relive the ordeal. Now that the threat is lifted I can live in peace once again” I think Gill and her new husband Jim had a daughter in 1979 and they named her Jayne Sarah in memory of Sarah. Good job. Thank you 👍
If they had searched this monster before he got in the taxi this could have been avoided. RIP to the innocent, trusting victims.🙏😔
I read a book about this recently. A truly terrifying ordeal.
How terrible. Rest in peace. One of the saddest stories I have ever heard.
It really is awful.

I remember this case being serialised in a newspaper later. The horror of it has stayed with me to this day.
I live down the road from there 😟 poor poor souls

Shocking, may they rest in peace!
I couldn’t live there that’s for sure. Especially knowing what happened. Poor family. Places like that should be bulldozed.
Exactly what I thought
