James I have been watching your channel since the catamaran days and I can see that this would have been a very hard decision but I love your honesty and the choices that you have made your future. I’m sure will be full of new adventures and experiences. thank you for allowing us to follow your journey, families do change things for the better all the best man
James ,been watching you from the beginning an was such an honor for us to meet you in SD many years back(remember the upgrade from sock coffee). We will always remember that meeting thank you for sharing a wonder adventure with us all these years! Much love and success brother!
This is CLICK BAIT. Title is about quitting sailing, but you talk about downsizing. You literally said "we are not quitting sailing". That is deceiving.
I remember back when you bought this diamond in the ruff and done a ton of work on her in the heat and humidity (you're a genuine doer champ), then just kept on spending more money and elbow grease bringing her to this lovely standard. Mate she's a 50 foot Oyster, it really is a top quality vessel, I'm looking for a boat and i swear I'd jump on this in a heartbeat if I had the funds. Hey people I got around $200,000 do you wanna crowd fund me and we'll go cruising together? Jokes aside that is one quality boat, you should tell people about the hull lay up and it's thickness, it's a fekn' battleship. Good luck mate whatever is next
I’m sorry to hear the sadness in your voice! A dream that didn’t go as planned and changed your priorities! All the best for you and your little family, hope to see you sailing again!
My friend, you're mistaken. I have fulfilled my dream to a potential I never dreamed of. I never thought I would sail 80,000 miles, meet the love of my life, and have a beautiful daughter. Any sadness you hear is natural nostalgia. I cried when I lost my catamaran because it wasn't my decision. I'm not crying now.
The essence of James from the jump was living his own life which is why so many were drawn to it, even in the midst of chaos. Taking a new path with the fam is beautiful to see. Hoping the way keeps getting richer and deeper with this choice.
Happy for you James, always loved your adventures, Anna is amazing, anything you two do will be successful. Love your family making memories, bless you both.....
James, the boat looks incredible! You've done an amazing job of bringing it back and making it better than ever. Hope you get what you're asking, or near to it.
About two years ago I mentioned in the comments"...One day you'll figure it out. The question is, What will you do with the new found knowledge". This is a general statement for anyone. For you and Anna, The best to you (Ustedes) in your new adventure. ❤
Bummer but also a new chapter! We all have to make those decisions. Only sad that I don't have the money to buy her myself, because I'd do it in a hot minute if I could, knowing how well you've taken care of her. Best of luck to you and the family, and can't wait to see what's next for you all!
There is happiness in simplifying . Going from a 30 footer to a 22 footer. No systems, small outboard, great day sailor. Have a Promaster van parked nearby for amenities…. Sit in lawn chairs / chill etc👍
James, you did a great job on the boat. I've followed you for the last couple of years and have enjoyed watching you live the life I can only dream about. But priorities change and you've made tons of memories and will continue to do so. Going smaller is also fun. I hope you recover all the work you put into the boat. As a Venezuelan, I would recommend you stay close to the caribean where you can continue to enjoy the sea life. Best of luck!
The sailing YT channel world needs people with integrity that know what they are talking about so I hope you don't give it up completely James, we need you to keep the standards up!
Not going to lie. When I saw this video I was scared to death. You were giving up sailing... I remember years ago you and I spoke and I told you I wanted to do this and you said do it... That is stuck with me all this time and my wife and I have been working very hard saving money to get a catamaran seeing everything you've seen and all the places you've been has made me realize just how important seeing the world can be. Can't wait to see more of your videos and I wish your entire family the best in life. You and thank you for taking the time to show us everything you did
I always enjoy your depth of knowledge, I've learned so much from your videos. Looking forward to seeing what your next adventure(s) will be! All the best!!
wow Ana's English has improved immensely, Luna is growing fast, such a cute baby, James, hopefully the boat sells quickly. If you choose Medellin maybe I will see you there ( two years and counting down till my Colombian wife and I move from Canada to Medellin) cheers
Everywhere in that video, I can see the results of your enthusiasm and abilities. Just managing a project of this size is very daunting, to say nothing of the amount of actual physical labor required. I know that on whatever path you guys choose, you will bring that same combination. I will still wish you fair winds even if there will be no following seas for a while.
James, what a prestine job you did. Incredible is all I can say. A lucky owner will get your boat complete. You've saved them all the learning curves with your experience! All the best to you and your family!
Small is beautiful. The cabin of a small yacht is truly a wonderful thing; not only will it shelter you from a tempest, but from the other troubles in life, it is a safe retreat. Keep moving forward brother!
She is gorgeous, and yes, you should be so, so proud! Someone is going to be very lucky to take her onto new adventures. I wish it could be me, but that dream will have to wait a few more years. Thanks for sharing the amazing transformation of your beautiful vessel, and your adventures. I am looking forward to seeing the next chapters!
So happy for you brother. What an adventure you have been on and I’m somehow blessed to have been able to share it with you because of this channel. I hope the best for your family and next adventures. What a run it’s been!!
She's a beautiful boat...sadly, she's older than 20 years, which will make it nearly impossible to get financed. Someone may be able to get a signature loan, but someone able to get a signature loan for $325,000.00 probably isn't going to be shopping for a 1994 Oyster. The interest alone, would be at least $30,000 a year over a newer boat loan. Also, a signature loan isn't allowed to be that long of a repayment period, compared to an actual boat loan. You're going to be dealing in a very, very small niched market. Someone that want a 50ft Oyster, has $325k lying around...I just don't see it. Oyster isn't Ferrari... To anyone out there...if you're going to invest in a boat to flip, make sure the boat, once completed, will be able to be financed. Good luck.
I agree that there aren't many people with that kind of money laying around who would be interested in an older yacht/design and that is because they like modern and bling bling but that is because they have no knowledge nor a brain. This Oyster is finished better than it was new and is from an era when boats were made by hand and strong. On top and most important, it's one of the most comfortable and safe yachts, with a Comfort Ratio of 42.33, a Capsize Screening Formula of 1.68, and a fairly high Hull Speed of 8.21 knots. Most modern super yachts have comfort ratios in the twenties, some, like Amel, halfway the thirties, and worse or even unacceptable capsize numbers.
Life goes on. My wife and I supported ourselves with the crewed charter trade. We specialized in Scuba and sailing in the E Caribbean and then in the San Blas. We were the first licensed crewed charter in the San Blas. Licensed in Panama. We were very busy. This was 25 yrs ago. No UA-cam. We were virtually the only way to get to Scuba in the San Blas. There was nothing else there. We were totally self contained of course. There was nothing in the San Blas for facilities. For water we would take the dingy up the jungle rivers and Jerry jug it. Fun. We got Gunas to help. Back then they were called Kuna Indians not Guna. We were slammed with back to back charters. We only had to do it for 3 months a yr. But yeah, it gets old. We had a 15 yr old KP 44 cutter in excellent shape. I am a 100 ton master and Scuba instructor. We sold that boat in Ventura CA. Life goes on. Now you have a WONDERFUL family. Wow, so cool. You guys will do well anywhere. As long as you have a channel, I’ll watch.
You're definitely very proud of your boat and there is sadness in your voice. Bueatiful sailboat. I guess priorities change; however, your happy place is on your boat, sailing. Will miss the adventures.
Thank you for all of the content you have created with Zingaro! I hope you continue to produce sailing content as I like your instruction style and techniques. Best wishes in the future and thank you for your service and sharing your sailing adventures.
We are sorry to hear you and your wife have decided to part ways with your Oyster 485. Over the past few years, we followed you as you poured your heart into bringing back, not only to life but to the beauty she was initially. Whoever the lucky new owner may be, he gets a rare jewel. We wish you and your family smooth sailing, with no events to speak of. Both of you are wise to look at the long picture of your lives. Please keep up your website so we can share your new adventures! Thank you.
James hi from Alberta, Canada. I saw Zingaro day one it's not the same boat, she looks freaking AMAZING !!!!,. You should be proud you invested a lot of time, sweat and money to get it where it is today👌. Huge decision to sell her but life changes you've got a beautiful family now. There is no reason Zingaro shouldn't sell for top dollar. Very well done man.
Very nice work, bro! You really put your heart into her and it has been apparent from your videos and travels. I'm in the same frame of mind as yourself though, I'm looking at boats that are in the 38'-40' range. Easier to maintain and not too big where I can't single-hand her. I'm sure she will go to someone who will appreciate all the work you've done, and I hope your future with the family is filled with Love and success. Portugal! Fair Winds & Following Seas!
It’s not easy, although you made it look smooth. I lived on a sailboat with my parents for about 5 years, we traveled from North America to Central America. There is always some danger involved, repairs and maintenance eat up your time and $$$$$$$. You’ve done well , time to turn the page.
I think the she is really looking super good and you have done a great job getting her ready for the next owner. She's very true to her classy design and free from frilly add-ons. Sorry to see her go but will continue to watch you 3 on your next phase if life knowing it will be an adventure. ✌️
I always kinda liked the livin' on a hope and prayer stuff on your early channels *(with the catamaran). First stumbled on your channel when you picked her up in Miami. Was a great channel James and thx for the early years of it all!
James great job on the refit ~ I know how you feel, been there too ~ “May the adventure continue” your still young and fit to take the next steps in your journey - Best wishes and Cheers
I saw his boat for sale on the internet before he posted this ... And I was thinking his channel must be behind.. But I was totally shocked when I saw the boat. .Because I recognized it one hundred percent. But then I thought ..maybe he's just flipping it ,,because he put a lot of work into it, so he should come out ahead. I'll. I will admit his channel. Was in my top three of favorites , more sailing and less drama of bullshit
Still remember your first episode James and thinking - "he'll never see this through". Glad you proved me wrong and thanks for taking us all along for the ride. You have other priorities now but you'll never quit sailing, of that I'm sure! Take care mate and here's to health and happiness for you and the family! 🖤
I was 62 and retired when my first child was born. I thought at the time my life had "bit the dust"... however I found out it was the best thing that ever happened to me. My life and dreams didn't end, they just transformed into a richer meaning and outlook on life. 16 years later I'm enjoying every moment I have with my son and still able to do all the other things as well, best thing ever.
Wow James....your before / after photo's are incredible. I can definitely sense the antipathy you have in deciding to make a lifestyle change choice with your boat. However as a father of 5...priorities shift when new lives come into the fold. Wishing you the best of luck and I hope you keep tubing and sharing. Your videos are always informative and full of wisdom.
You've done a really awesome job James, well done. I saw from the start and really felt for you, thinking you'll never pull it off, but you did in spectacular fashion. Worth every penny awesome boat.
I’ve watched all your videos since the start with the trimaran and I have to say that I don’t see you happy as a landlubber. You’re a man of the sea James . But it’s not incompatible with family. Good luck to you Captain.
A bit of sadness, but life goes on. Seems like you just got the boat. Ok, so you sell the boat, but the memories stay with you forever. Thanks Jim, I’ve enjoyed your great videos. 😊
Captain James, this is sad and joyful at the same time!😢❤ I'm looking forward to you and your families new journey! ❤❤❤ I understand about a home base. I was waiting for it, actually! Babies change your lives. I just hope your kept "THE CRAWL" (I hope I spelled it right)!!❤ I LOVE that tool!! It works awesomely!! LOL 😂❤. Take Care! GOD BLESS ALL THREE OF YOU!!! ✝️🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸⛵️👣☘️🍍🍍🪃🪃🍼🍼🍼😊😎
James, you should be very proud of yourself for what you achieved with that boat. She was a real mess when you bought her. As for changes, priorities change, and i think its great that you're doing what you know is right for you and your little family. My hats off to you for recognizing whats truly important in life. Can't wait to share in your future endeavors.
James, congrats on the systems upgrades and restoring the beautiful wood interior, deck work looks fabulous. The people that supported sailing Zingaro's mad "Captain Jack Sparrow sea adventures" we all are life long sailing mates by you capturing our hearts and minds. I love that your wife puts you first in her life, match made in paradise Cheers brother and much happiness sending your all way from Sf bay
I get it. Thats a lot of boat for a small family. And kids certainly do change everything. I have 3 of them. I didnt get interested in boats or sailing till after i already had kids and all of us are going to be sailing on an old 30 foot wooden boat once im done rebuilding her.
James - what an outstanding job you did. I already loved your boat but it’s just stunning now. The white cushions and cabin floor are class. You’ll be sorry to see it go but onwards and upwards. Good luck 👍🏼
I love what you have done to your boat and if I was able to I would buy her in a heartbeat. Well done mate!!!! I will keep a lookout for your continued vlogs and wish you and your family all the very best in your lives. Happy sailing mates.
its been a trip! kids do that for everyone. both are keepers been here from the beginning and hope to be there at the end 46 years old on july 24 and to kids 21 and 18 enjoy watching them grow up its dont take long!
Sad to see go, but I totally bet it. Are you guys going to become homesteaders? I can see you buying an abandoned home in Portugal and rebuilding it. I'd like to see that. You can't stop sailing, though.❤
W0W! This news makes me sad! Is that aloud? Ha! I'm going to miss ya Brother! I commented on many of your very 1st videos & ya always commented back. I wish you & your family nothing but the best!!! Rock on my friend.
My heart rate is pumping! If I got my act together, squared a few things and relearned to sail - I would own this bad girl and put her to work as you had intended...Beautiful work.
WOW !!! whoever gets that boat is not only getting a tried an proven yatch , there also getting the refit with all the refinements above and beound , it's one beautiful boat 😚👍✌
James I have been watching your channel since the catamaran days and I can see that this would have been a very hard decision but I love your honesty and the choices that you have made your future. You did bring that boat back to life. This feels a little bittersweet, I hope you continue to bring us some stories.
I've got some stories for you...
Happy for you James, always loved your adventures, Anna is amazing, anything you two do will be successful. Love your family making memories, bless you both.....

She's looking fabulous James, you've brought the Oyster back! Continued health and happiness with your family!
Workmanship & pride of ownership shows. Lots of hard work & soul went into getting it to this condition... beautiful & something to be proud of.

Sad to her go, loved this boat. Who ever will got this one is gonna be happy with it. Can't wait to follow your next hunt after this.
Beautiful boat however still lacking what i consider a must have diesel generator and reverse cycle air.
She's beautiful! I hope you get your price and that the new owners are awesome.
Your passion for sailing got me interested in watching your videos a few years ago. I hope you can still sail and make videos.

I’ve watched all your videos since the start with the trimaran and I have to say that I don’t see you happy as a landlubber. You’re a man of the sea James . But it’s not incompatible with family.
Good luck to you Captain.
Awesome James. It is a beautiful yacht. It'll sell quick.
Nice to see change....good woman and beautiful kid. Good luck.
Great job on the refurb. The boat is exquisite ❤
A bit of sadness, but life goes on. Seems like you just got the boat. Ok, so you sell the boat, but the memories stay with you forever. Thanks Jim, I’ve enjoyed your great videos. 😊
Thanks for the sweet message, Jim. Much love from the Zingaro family!
Don't settle dude continue your dream never quit!!!
Thank you for all the good vibes, i still remember the catamaran time. All the best to you and your family.
Yes.
You should be very very proud.
She is a lovely lovely vessel.
I can see why you’re proud of that boat! Superb craftsmanship.
You should be proud, you did a great job! Good Luck!
Hello from Australia 🦘. I wish you and your family all the best. 😃
Awe you sound sad 😢. But……new adventures to come 💜
Are you giving any of the money back to the people that bought it for you?
I still remember the UA-cam begging days years ago....LOL
I wish you guys the best. Change is always good. New adventures will lead to new discoveries.
In life, sometimes less is more. Best of luck finding your next adventure.

Sad to see go, but I totally bet it. Are you guys going to become homesteaders? I can see you buying an abandoned home in Portugal and rebuilding it. I'd like to see that. You can't stop sailing, though.❤
I feel you! 5 yrs in and looking for what's next. A42' Chris White. Just sailed SXM to Lagos.
Looking great James. Hoping for a quick sale so you can move forward to the next chapter.
Looking forward to to the future for you and your beautiful family James. Here's hoping for updates over the next few years.
The boat looks great. You will appreciate the extra time that you’ll gain in a smaller sailboat. Half the time at half the cost. It’s a plus, plus.
Wow, she looks amazing!
WOW !!! whoever gets that boat is not only getting a tried an proven yatch , there also getting the refit with all the refinements above and beound , it's one beautiful boat 😚👍✌
God Bless Your Family !!
You are not alone on leaving or reducing sailing after a family shows up . Hope to see you on your reduced in size new boat
I've enjoyed your adventures from the beginning. Awesome boat!
