    The moment you lay down the main gear. I can see uneven surface on the digi gear It could be tear and wear factor or over pressure on the main gear it self. Well done sir... problem solve.

      Thanks - It could be the metals used in the gear that caused the warp. Hmmm - doesn't say much there! Dennis

    When I have found a problem a main gear or pinion I have always replaced both gears just to be safe. Since most of the reels I work on are vintage reels getting those gears can be a challenge. I’d be very curious as to why that Penn gear got worn in the way that it was. Great video Dennis!

      Good tip! Both gears should be replaced because of the contact. You just can't be sure which one damaged which - Dennis

      True. Also vintage reels for the most part
      have much better materials thaan these new
      “Penn” reels. Certainly the older US made ones
      did. These Chinese ones pale in comparison.

      @@armandoreyes1891 Hi Armando! I absolutely agree with you on this. To be honest this particular Penn reel is toast as far as I’m concerned. Something in the construction of this reel has caused the main gear to be damaged like this. Without knowing why I wouldn’t pay the money to put new parts in this reel. It will likely end up in exactly the same condition all over again. Of course I wouldn’t buy of these in the first place for exactly the reasons you state.

    Dennis, would you happen to have the main drive gear for an ABU 5000d? Mine has about 5 teeth missing, and that makes for a horrible day on the water... lol Thanks!

      @@2ndChanceTackle Thanks. The 5000d has the flat sides in the center of the gear and not round like the 5000's.

    Can we get a part two?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  2 роки тому +1

      No. The owner decided to stop work after learning that the gears would cost almost $100 with shipping and tax. The main gear is made with a special alloy and was almost $50 alone. I would not just replace that gear as you do not know which one caused the issue, so you would need to do the pinion gear as well as a minimum and would likely want to do the two others as well. - Dennis
