UNC isn't as old and successful as it is without being able to read the room. Those frat boys raised more money, without even trying, than the entire DEI thing has produced since it was introduced. A lot of North Carolinians who have been watching UNC do the DEI spiral were impressed that the DEAN came out and took down the Palestinian flag and replaced it, and when that wasn't good enough, even students were rallying to defend Old Glory.
As a NCSU fan, even I had to tip my hat to that. Such a thing is not lost on UNC

I think there’s room for optimism when they fire everyone in that division of the college. When they plan to rebrand they usually fire one or two scapegoats and then quietly rebrand, but that’s not happening here

Chapel Hill getting rid of its dei department is a great step in the right direction. Another step in that direction will be to punish the people that installed it. "Do not attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence." That quote , unfortunately, has not been true for some time and is now used by the willfully ignorant and the outright guilty.
Now let's criminally charge them for the clear depravation of rights that dei objectively entails.
"Fratbros" they may be, but books, covers and all that. In that moment though, they weren't. They were patriots defending their home and country. They may not have fought an enemy in a war and I won't say it is comparable in any way. Regardless, they deserve immense respect. With how post-secondary schools have gone mental, I don't think most people would have been surprised if the school came down the other way on this issue.

As a NC native, I'm frankly quite surprised - and also quite pleased - that UNC Chapel Hill took this action.
Surprised, because the metro area that university is located in, is one of the 5 metro areas in the state that are consistently "woke" and deep blue, much like Austin in Texas - so to me, this is an event on par with Biden actually uttering a coherent sentence.
But considering that the other 95 counties in the state have voted red by a wide margin for many years now - and we have had a Republican majority in the state legislature since 2012 - the first time since the 1870's - I'm guessing the admin of UNC Chapel Hill saw which way the wind was blowing.
I am glad to see this reach its zenith and begin to recede. I am sad that I had to face this and it VERY negatively affected my life. In a few years, no one will remember it, or it will be remembered in a very optimistic shiny light of "just wanting to help the less fortunate gone too far." I will remember, but it won't really matter. I guess we'll get to see what route the envious will take to attack society next.

Measuring societal success via wealth inequality is an intrinsically flawed metric. Why would one care that the gap between wealth between a king and a commoner has expanded in the last 200 years when the wealth and modern amenities of a modern commoner would make the king from 200 years ago green with envy? That's the west, until it collapses anyway. The most wealthy and powerful people from times past would kill to have access to the modern creature comforts we tend to take for granted.
I really think we can win just by properly identifying the abuse as abuse and allowing these people to explain why their abuse is a good and noble thing.
