Chipp super is so amazing animated , i love the final part when you can see his eye as he is going down. Then Potemkin looks super cool with the animation of his armor and the sky.
In the current state of Axl meta, One Vision is painfully bad. Anything it could lead into is overshadowed by just 1 use of the other super and you really need the meter for defensive RC and wake up super. Only use it to style on the oponent if it's already dead, until someone finds out some janky shit with it.
I've been finding this out myself, and I hate it because I had so much fun with it in the beta. It's just not worth the meter when RC already does the job pretty well, and has more variety in usage.
There's some interesting tradeoffs you can tell were made with supers in strive, and i think the more common they expected the super to be the more careful they were trying to avoid going over the top so people weren't frustrated about seeing the move for the 30th time that day. I think arcsys also put a lot of emphasis on the ending pose because of the freeze on wallbreak. There's a lot of subtle stuff in posing and animation that makes even the less showy supers interesting to watch closely (my personal favourite is anji's little smirk that he hides behind a fan during fan super). Overall they're largely a good study in how to make super moves look and feel cool without just making them longer and flashier i think.
Like the length of the game themselves, I think the supers fit the pace of the game. It's still a shame that most are short and underwhelming. Insta-Kills would have resolved this issue: get fast-paced games AND long finishers that would be hype to land/watch in a tournament when it does happen.
Gio needed a really hard or defined kick at the end of her air combo to make it a 10/10. She has that wolf kick why not add that? Feels a bit anti climatic
the best thing about heavenly potemkin buster is not the animation itself. it's the very beggining of the animation where he hoists the enemy up on his shoulders. that's where the endorfin hits. it also tells you that it actually hit and didn't randomly miss for no reason
Lets be honest, all the cinematic supers in this game are great. The quality in animation is absolutely superb. Arcsys are definitely masters at what they do!
They look great visually and some have good impact, but in my opinion most of them lack creativity and are very anticlimactic. Like some of injustice 2s supers can lack impact but I feel they're super creative for the most part. Especially Flashs.

Axl's time stop is a real tragedy because it's heavily telegraphed, doesn't give you long in the charged state to use it, can be blocked, and doesn't even last long enough for him to finish his taunt. Probably for the best that it not be OP, but I don't see any player getting hit by the thing provided they understand how it works.
Most of the supers have really cool looking build-up but the rest if it is so unsatisfying to look at. Reminds me of the early DBFZ roster where most of them have meh looking supers compared to what came later.
Keep in mind the game is still relatively new and arc system has stated that will support the game for a long time and will continue to update the game and add new stuff and I think they will keep to their word and support the game fof a very long time unlike netherrealm which said they will support mortal Kombat 11 for a while but after at least two years they flat out said fuck it were done which pissed off a lot of fans so I hope to God arc will keep their word about the supporting the game for a very long because if they don't and go down the netherrealm route I'll be very upset and I'm sure many will agree with me on that but I think it'll not be the case because I have faith in acr system works their very passionate about their games
This games getting long post-release updates. Plus I dont think theres ever been a Guilty Gear without IKs. So hopefully they'll be adding IKs in the future.
With the slower pace in general and how easy it is to build meter in Strive, if they added instant kills everyone would be spamming them on matches. If ArcSys adds IKs (which they'll do eventually) they'll be super slow, like 1-3 seconds of startup to truly separate them from the rest of the moves
As much as I like Instant kills, it's pretty understandable why they cut them. It's a gargantuan amount of work considering how you almost never used them in Xrd since you couldn't combo into them at all unless you basically already won. And they have to restrict them like that since otherwise it just becomes a bullshit blowup mechanic, but it leads to them basically being fluff. Cool fluff, but fluff nonetheless.
6:36 I can confirm, Winger was _not_ present in GG1. Her hair didn't really shapeshift for any of her moves back then (she also didn't have Bad Moon or Iron Savior). Millia's super in that game was "Iron Maiden" (a name that would be used for her instant kill in GGX onwards). Imagine if her Xrd instant kill was a super (several strand of hair projectiles from multiple angles). Now imagine if it was a zoning super in a game where, once you're below half health, supers are free and can be spammed indefinitely. Now imagine that the arcade Millia AI knows this, and is willing to abuse it. Finally, imagine that you're trying complete Arcade mode without continues in order to unlock Baiken. Now you know a small measure of my pain. Also, just to be pedantic, 10:25 I-No debuted in GGXX, not GGX.

@@bit427 Well if we are talking about creating a brand new game, I'm very confident that arcsys could replicate Jojo aesthetics. If it's a guest character, the former still holds true. It would be cool if Gio had one more special move using the dog as a ranged attack. 236H (Hold) sends the dog quickly somersaulting forward X distance or until you let go of H (can passes through opponent), then it does a double sided paw extend attack and returns. Kind of like a long range straight flying doggie version of Gio's 214S. Gio can move/attack while the dog is flying out (while still holding H), but can't use 214K, 236K or 2D until it's back since those use the dog to attack. Her normals have long active frames so it won't stop her from doing her usual finisher options, but it might limit her 236K approach and short combo confirm options (ie new236H > K > 214K). Alternately they could just make them inferior moves like Ram has without her swords. The dog would also extend her hurtbox like chipp's clone so it can be punished (or double punished if you hit the dog and Gio at the same time). She always screams johnny somehow
nago has a pretty great voiceline too where its something along the lines of "so this is the view from up here"
In the current state of Axl meta, One Vision is painfully bad. Anything it could lead into is overshadowed by just 1 use of the other super and you really need the meter for defensive RC and wake up super. Only use it to style on the oponent if it's already dead, until someone finds out some janky shit with it.
but... muh super into tbag into dp true combo.
wouldn’t it be burst safe compared to an rc?
@@lowqualitycatjpeg yeah, but you can't use time stop on defense. Most of Axl's meter is reserved for getting people off of him.
I think it stops a Mob Cemetery. But you need it primed first
I've been finding this out myself, and I hate it because I had so much fun with it in the beta.
It's just not worth the meter when RC already does the job pretty well, and has more variety in usage.
I love how on Chipp's 2nd super you get a chorus of Chipps coming from even the controller mic. It sounds really cool in game.
Now we need a "rate the full theme" of GGS, they're all bangers..
The lighting of Zato's Amorphous made it my favourite, it looks so good.
Waiting for Arc System Works to add in those classic "🔗DESTROYED🔗" moments.
Me too
There's some interesting tradeoffs you can tell were made with supers in strive, and i think the more common they expected the super to be the more careful they were trying to avoid going over the top so people weren't frustrated about seeing the move for the 30th time that day.
Honestly, outside of Potemkin, Chip and Nagoryuki, all of them feels weak, good build up, but such flaccid payoff
Like the length of the game themselves, I think the supers fit the pace of the game. It's still a shame that most are short and underwhelming. Insta-Kills would have resolved this issue: get fast-paced games AND long finishers that would be hype to land/watch in a tournament when it does happen.
Instant kill combos are what I live for. It is the reason for my existence.
Bro the timing at 10:49 with ino's ult and the music gave me goosebumps
Chipp’s supers are dope. The first one is 10/10 for just because of the lightning blade reference
Faust is required by law to have the funniest super in whichever Guilty Gear game he ends up in
It's ridiculous how gorgeous the whole game looks.
Everyone else's super: super powered magic attack.
Faust's super: rams you with a wheelchair and breaks your shin.
Ky’s Dragon install is like that because only some of his cells are gear cells, because Sin’s eye is slowly turning him into a gear.
Faust's wheelchair super needs its own video rating every opponent's facial reaction.
I'm still recovering from spraining my ankle and Faust's super made me wince every time. 11/10 until I can walk again.
A fun fact : Ram Calvados uses a Zeal battery for the attack . You can see the swords replacing the batteries .
Fun fact:
Nago's multi-hit super has the same amount and speed of strikes as the guitar strikes in the beginning of his theme's guitar solo.
Chipp's first super looks amazing if it kills, with the "slash" screen and all
"They were too busy fucking up the lobbies!" Had me dead😂😂😂
Nago's 1st super...is too much of a riff of the supers that Genjuro has on Samurai Shodown
...you know the ones I'm talking about
Please do a "rate the full theme" ! The first one was already pretty fun !
If it weren’t for stupid copyright rules, that’d be epic. I’d LOVE for him to do KOF & SamSho too.
Millia, pot, and anji are SSS+ TIER.....I love absolutely every single song in this game.....I guess the only one thats ehh would be rams i guess
You think Max has the attention span for that?
In 3 years, we’ll have the Dlc edition of this video.
Leo Whitefang looks like Marco from Metal Slug when he gets hit by Faust's super xD
Arcsys are definitely masters at what they do!
dbzf
Wait till you see DBFZ
Dbz is great but the small details on animation are much better
They look great visually and some have good impact, but in my opinion most of them lack creativity and are very anticlimactic. Like some of injustice 2s supers can lack impact but I feel they're super creative for the most part. Especially Flashs.
@@joshuavarghese7166 i love NRS supers but they last a bit too long lol
Was waiting for this to come out. These rate the supers videos are so great to watch. Hope you make a follow up to this once they add every other dlc character they want in Strive.
Too bad they are less over the top than the last game
Axl also seems to do the dio pose when using ZA WARUDO.
11:50 Guile: SONIC HURRICANE!
17:30 Wolverine: Weapon X!
Most of these SUPERS are heavily influenced by SNK 90s games. At 11:50 Mai had that move more than a decade before Guile
@@h.m.5724 It's super weird getting replies to comments made over half a year ago. Regardless, I haven't played the games that had those movesets. Therefore I made humorous comments likenening them to ones I DO know of.
@@zemratsu doesn't matter the age of your comment if you're wrong you wrong
@@h.m.5724 Okayyyy, and you ignored the rest of the comment explaining the original. Wow.
zato's shadowing is legit the best I've ever seen in the medium
Axl's time stop is a real tragedy because it's heavily telegraphed, doesn't give you long in the charged state to use it, can be blocked, and doesn't even last long enough for him to finish his taunt. Probably for the best that it not be OP, but I don't see any player getting hit by the thing provided they understand how it works.
I played chipp first, so i was definitely disappointed when I realized his supers where an exception and not the norm.
19:00 you don't just watch Potemkin's overdrive. you yell with it. HEAVENLYYYYY-----
POTEMKIIIN
Any other JP dubbed character getting hit by BCE: screams of pain, safe words.
Faust getting hit by BCE: *F U C K*
They shouldn't have gotten rid of Instant Kills.
They absolutely shouldn't have, the super here kinda feel limb personally.
They shoudve been there at launch, now we play the waiting game.
I think some of them are made so much better with the ending screen thing. For example, chipp's super.
I knew Bone-Crushing Excitement would be a 10/10
20:03 It does remind you to the Iron Man's Proton Cannon, but instead it came out the Morrigan's Soul Eraser, for some reason.
Yeah, I've been waiting for this!
Yeah, That makes sense!
fun fact! If you rewind 10 seconds at any point during zato's cutscene at 9:29, it segues perfectly
Axl's super actually my video stop and buffer. Utility super indeed.
18:56 Giovanna's literally just like 'Well, I'm fucked...'
Meanwhile her dog is panicking.

@@STALKER777LK Well, that's hard to evaluate, at least for me... I am consuming japanese stuff for 15 years or so, the only character that look "pretty" in a literal way... maybe that's C.C. from Code Geass? She is the only character that kind became memorable to me. I just can't see the "looks" on a cartoon, one of the major reasons why I don't understand the rule 34 and hentais in general
We all know chipp has the most badass super
Anybody else notice during Faust’s super when Ram got hit it changed which legs was wrapped in belts?
ladies and gentlemen, 4:56 the Hakumen of Guilty Gear
Just as cool too
With a Samsho style Super like Genjuro's.
Worth noting for Nagoriuki's Zanetsu (his big hit super), is that it is one of Nagoriuki's very few openly vampiric moves. The bat wing the blade effect forms, in my opinion, looks absolutely sick.
imagine ArcSys making instant kills in the year 1 or 2 version of Strive
I honestly think that's the minimum expected. If they don't add instant kills, the criticism should be severe
@@RRRRRRRRR33 I'm critical about them not being there at launch(sigh), but now we just have to wait god knows how long.
Why did u have to say that?😖😖😖
@@ggmasterguiltygear6315 We will be fine lads. Its just a waiting game at this point :^)
We'll have to see how IK's interact with rrc. I mean if you could just combo into it, IKs would be broken.
My favorite super was the one Where after activation it turned into a great wolf lodge Commercial. That's crazy
Just like Max said I wish Gio was introduced in a proper Guilty Gear, they could have gone wild with her moves and design, she's so cool. Strive is fine as it is but I REALLY hope this is not the direction they're going with the series in the future.
Maybe when guilty gear goes back to normal in later games, they'll make her look striking like the others, it's sucks that they gutted the guilty gear aesthetic in strive

Love it when chipp screams “oh my god!” When he gets grabbed by Potemkin
"Just a dood, Doing just a dood things," Isn't that the way though? Isn't that the purity of being a dood. So simple, but oh so complex.
Dude I seen a Potemkin do the Aegis and Terminator Walk when Ram fired her huge lasers
Man, part of me wants Dio or Jotaro to be a guest character in GG, or even better ArcSys creating a Jojo fighting game.
ArcSys needs to create a jump game featuring Jojo, One Piece, Dragon Ball and so on. With the right marketing, this game has potential to break sales records (that goes for the Marvel fighting game developed by netherrealm as well... sadly, it's all suppositions)
But would jojo characters fit in the arcsys art style?
@@bit427 Well if we are talking about creating a brand new game, I'm very confident that arcsys could replicate Jojo aesthetics. If it's a guest character, the former still holds true. But even if it was off a bit to match more guilty gear It'll still look fantastic.
This is bit of a tangent but Jojo anime has various artstyles between the parts. But people still recognize them and appreciate them. It would be a similar case.
@@kingdomkey92 U know now that u think about it I think part 7 or 5 would be the closest to guilty gear right?
Axl is already a jojo
well now we know that fausts assistant doctor days were kinda dark, before he found his massive confidence
Its really hard to beat "I fixed your face" tho
Damn, wonder if in the near future we get Instant Kills for Strive
It'd be nice if they just tell us if it'll be in this game or a seperate retail version.
I hope so. I miss them
It would be cool if Gio had one more special move using the dog as a ranged attack. I hope they go through and gift some characters a new special to make them a bit closer to Sol levels of complete feeling.
We need a rate the rage arts/drives for Tekken 7
Toss opponent in the air and punch them really hard while they fall. 5/10. There, I did the whole roster.
