for me it wouldnt be the height, it would be the fear of my parachute not opening lol.
Square chutes, esp. BASE chutes are real reliable. Biggest risk is havit open in a snap turn and you get slammed intobthe building or mountain. The other is getting on the handle when you've got like 3sec. left to get to it (cuz you need like 100 or 200ft. to open) Not critical at all in a reg

cool video, but i wish they would just go through the entire zip line. I thought it was a zipline video not a parachute video. It can't be the world's longest zipline if it ends less than halfway through

The angle looks a little steap for them to be able to make it the whole way. Unless there is a lot of brakes at the bottom they would fly off and potently get really hurt. I am guessing this zip line is made for parachuting and stuff, that also probably explains why it is so easy to unbuckle their self out of the restraints.

HOLY HECK NO. I personally think I would enjoy the gliding part, but when you have to jump?? The closest thing I've ever felt to free-falling was the dropper ride at Kemah amuesment part, and that was terrifying how fast and vulnerable you feel. Chances are I would get to scared to move and pull my parachute trigger or whatever and then fall to my deathh
They don't pull the string, it's attached to the top rod for some of them, so half pull it and the other half has them attached and they open auto

Skydiving and zipling then free falling with a parachute isn't as scary as mountain climbing. That's much more frightening imo. I've done both. For me mountain climbing is a no go, never again lol.

Basically, this is just a step below base jumping :S They don't take the line to the end or not even to the middle.
You realize that the chutes need a certain time/height to fully open? If they take the line to the end, they'll crash in the ground and if they goo to far down, the chutes won't open and.... they'll crash in the ground...
Yes, I realize how parachutes work lol. They could have created an additional area that would slow them down. It would be very pricy to engineer and construct, but would make a truly bad ass video. Instead, it's a base jumping video called zip line.
I watched it to see people go down the worlds largest zip line, as the video title indicates. Instead it's just base jumping. I'm dissapointed in the bait-and-switch, not the gall it takes to jump off.

Every state has jump certification programs for reasonable prices.
How many seconds/meters of falling does a parachute need to open itself?
It depends, that is a complicated question. Factors are infinite. But to simplify; to land safely in a wide-open grass landing area, ~25M to 100M.
It depends on several things including the speed at which your falling and the type of parachute.
Up to 5 seconds I think, if it doesn't open after that... you're dead.
You can't make a definite value, only the media will do that to trick the ignorant into an emotional response. At 120mph I have deployed my parachute at 200' above the ground. I was able to land on my feet no problem. I have also done a static-line jump from a 145' cliff, I was able to turn 90 degrees, slow down, and flare for a stand up landing.
It depends largely on the speed you're already traveling, but even at "lower" speeds; around 60 to 80 mph a chute designed for BASE will open completely in about half a second. That sounds fast, but even then you've already traveled over 100 feet, assuming you're not even accelerating.
