How can Gallagher - the Utd player - be offside when he's standing right next to a St Mirren player, and there's another St Mirren player on the touchline? 1:51
I remember being at my Grans 80th not that long after this game. Kenny Hope the referee at this game was there as he knew her and as I was and am a saints fan I actually mentioned the offside goal and thanked him! He looked pretty sheepish!! It wasn't offside I think we can all see that but hey it happens. I actually remember after the game when the saints fans were wishing the United fans well for the UEFA cup final which they still had to play, gutted they lost that but so glad they lifted the cup hoodoo against Rangers years later.
Really, no disrespect, but anyone who thinks that wasn't offside doesn't understand the offside law. In almost all cases, the goalkeeper is the last man, so the attacker only needs one defender to be 'goal side' of him in order for the attacker to remain onside. In this case, when the scoring shot is struck, the goalkeeper is further from the goal line than two of his defenders. Therefore, for the purposes of the offside law, one of those defenders takes on the role of the goalkeeper as last man, and for Kevin Gallacher to be onside, there would need to be two defenders 'goal side' of him, which quite clearly there are not. When you know the law, it is not even up for debate. It is quite clearly offside. You could say it is startling that commentators Archie MacPherson and Terry Butcher do not know this, but then again, they are far from alone.
It was a sore one for united that ufea cup final . But that ifk team had put aberdeen out the year or so before .so sadly the got the better both the new firm sides deep into europe

actually if you freeze it at 1:51 you will see there is actually another St Mirren defender further down the line that is actually playing the player in question onside regardless I think...
Gallagher was well offside. on the line stopping Campbell Money from making a great save. My heart stopped for a second thinking here we go again after Billy Thompsons Dens disaster and Sandy Clarks goal that should never have been, but justice was done, and a few minutes later was the greatest moment of my life.
Said player is close to the line, Gallacher was on the line. How anyone thinks he wasn't offside is beyond me. And anyway, Ian Redford was offside in the build-up. 😎

I still remember the blunder he made during the final against Celtic the following year when he came for a cross which he missed completely leaving Frank McAvennie with an empty goal in which to score Celtic's equaliser.
Watch his SC semi replay fuck up at Dens in 82. Cost him his ticket to WC in Spain and St Mirren semi final vs Aberdeen. This was karma for the Buddies.
Dundee Utd the glorious losers of Scottish football in the 1980’s !!! Oh yeah but they beat Barcelona twice!!! And won nothing in the end!!! Aberdeen beat Bayern Munich over 2 legs and beat Real Madrid in the final!!! 🤭😂🤷♂️ the won the super cup against Hamburg!!! But oh yeah DUFC beat Barcelona twice!! LMFAO!! 🐑 🐑 🥅 ⚽️ 😁

25 years ago today, what memories. wish we could do it again so that this time I can go to the pub to celebrate!! I was only 14 in '87!!
I am sure you celebrated in 2013!
Some quality players in the two teams ,probably 100 million in today's game
Even by 1987 standards, there's a high level display of mullets going on here.
24 years ago today. My first live game - not bad being a St Mirren fan!
First game? What a gloryhunter you are.

Came across this today with the Fizzy Cup final coming up and I have to say - Gallacher isn't interfering with play (as it was then). Never offside.
Gallacher has to be interfering with play which he wasn't

Both teams are using Umbro numbers in adidas shirts

Dundee Unoted had a good season but lost 2 finals they played that year , scottish cup and UEFA Cup
Robbed by the authorities again, west coast BIAS, offside my arse
Did Steve Clarke play or had he gone to Chelsea?
He wasn't playing for the Saints that day.
Billy Thompson never heard of covering his front post?! FFS
Threw it in against Gothenburg and let in a soft one here

I know. Fergie was Practically in the 6 yrd box before the ball fell to him to strike it and he’s standing, not even moving towards the player!!!

Dundee United won the league cup in 1979-80 and 1980-81 and the league title in 1983. They were a great team and I am not a United fan.
Dundee United was a good team those year, Aberdeen was a VERY good team...just that
United still shite
