People who are really depressed often are not able to get through the demands of relating to others & turning up for appointments & filling in forms etc to go through the processes necessary to move on. Also often people who are traumatised after bereavement or having been abused, either by a partner, or parent often cannot cope with being packed into a hostel with others.

@@shaunbradley5253 your missing my point. As a homeless working man I know the reality of the housing crisis in the UK. Selling the Big Issue is not a career choice, nobody chose that option, circumstances force people into it. Why sleep on a thin camping mat in a sleeping bag on a pavement exposed or in a tent where there is potentially human urine, vomit or dead animals and living rodents attacking you, when you can have a flat, a bed and security. When would anyone decide it was better to be outside in the rain, snow and freezing weather with people urinating on them, kicking them or potentially killing them by set fire to their sleeping bag or tent, than in a house or flat?
He speaks of others making excuses but he does it himself.
The 1824 vagrancy act makes sleeping outside a criminal offence and the 2014 anti social act can be used against rough sleepers.
In court the excuse of, Well I'm a lazy individual who can't get out of bed on time for work when I'm living inside, so I'm volunteering to sleep outside and be anti social, is not going to prevent conviction.
People should only sleep rough if it's absolutely necessary and if no alternative options are available or the alternative options endanger ones life. In reality he is like me, low on income, as limited savings, if any and can't get housing references, so he's only option is rough sleeping. His argument is an excuse and there when you point out that he's saying other street people make excuses I'm saying so does he but which is worse, the excuses of a drug addict/ alcoholic vagrant or a sobber Big issue seller.
The Big Issue wasn't created so people could volunteer to backpack about the UK but to help those whom were homeless or at risk of homelessness help themself back onto their feet.

@@shaunbradley5253 your wrong there is little help out there except for families, menstrual women, the physical or mentally vulnerable or the elderly. If your male under 65 and not in immediate danger there is no help out there.
These videos show the visible rough sleepers but I'm a hiden rough sleeper. I'm in part time work and I sleep in a rural location, own a second hand bike to commute to work and wear a suit during the day. I make no excuse for my lifestyle because I never chose it.
A pandemic hit, my employer slashed my hours and as an essential worker I worked throughout the pandemic.
By the end of the pandemic my savings were used up and then the Ukraine war caused my utility bills to incress, then my rent increased and I lost my flat. As a working homeless man I'm entitled to virtually no assistance.
If I stay in sheltered accommodation or a hostel then my fellow residents are likely to steal my phone, wallet or assault me. So I sleep in woodland near a village church. I'll save a little each week and hopefully get a full time job next year and be housed by next winter, if I survive this one.
The homeless make excuse because if they didn't, they'd never cope with homelessness.
His excuse gives him self respect and physical as well as mental strength, but he uses a excuse like other homeless people.

No, not all he's saying re homeless hostels, council housing homes waiting lists is all true .. definitely not here in London. We have already lost 6 enormous council estates that were allowed to get dilapidated and run down. Tenants were told that the estate[s] were in need of "regeneration". The respective councils emptied the estate[s] of tenants, they then sold off these estates to developers who tarted up these estates and sold them on to foreign investors or UK investors which were then invariably left empty .. That is the true face of London and other major cities across the UK .... Hostel tenants have at least an 8-10yr waiting for affordable council homes, houses/flats etc .. Affordable housing is now a thing of the past, charities are stretched beyond their limits to help and many just can't cope any more as is the same for councils. Most London boroughs have 20,000 + people on their waiting lists and no affordable housing is being built in London or anywhere in the UK ... Only housing being built here in London now, and is the same for quite some time, are uber rich purchase/rentals/uber expensive holiday letting blocks of flats .. This man is obviously happy living on the streets and hasn't truly looked into the very real housing crisis the UK is going through today ....

Bottom line, in life you have to work for what you want if you want it, if you don't try you'll be homeless forever. in my opinion if the worst case scenario is a 5 year wait, its worth the wait. In that time you can find jobs as hostels count as an address which is usually what you need to get a job. If you really work for what you want and persevere you can and will achieve that goal.

Excellent vid and a great discussion. He was telling the truth, too. As a community volunteer, I worked as a small part of a team that helped the homeless find accomodation, and was directly involved in the rehousing of 21 individuals who had been living rough. Within a year, 17 of them were back on the streets and happy to be there; one of the remaining four, in a comfortable, well appointed bungalow on the estate and in full receipt of all available disability benefits, can still be found daily, wrapped in an old sleeping bag outside the shops begging for change. The help that was there (even in a Labour council area like ours where everything is begrudged and in short supply as far as local people are concerned) was either ignored or abused to the point where it becomes unavailable to those in genuine need.

More abuse and theft an likely hood of becoming an addict within the facilities. What he's doing is good fairplay to him but some of the things he's saying is damaging to a small amount of homeless people mainly people who are victims of abuse and suffer with paranoia and anxiety whom struggling to ask for help even when not homeless. Genuine question.
Who pays for the hostel? As in videos you see them saying I'm begging and hope I earn enough for a night in a hostel. So which is true.
Also if identification is stolen then does this impact the homeless person? To register, to claim benefits etc
As when you watch all other videos. The above claims are common all over the world.
Another thing I've noticed is no homeless person looks under fed, skin and bone, Malnourished etc.

There are about 5000 people sleeping rough each night in the UK. That’s actually a small number in the grand scheme of things, but still: one is too many. As I understand it, the hostels are free (I could be wrong) and are usually the first port of call. But spaces are limited. Once you get into the system and are assigned a B&B or room in a council-designated shared property then you have to pay for this (but you get the money given to you in the form of a housing benefit, so it’s effectively free). Living in these venues is seen as highly undesirable. What everyone wants is a flat of their own, but demand far exceeds supply and single white men are at the bottom of the pile for these. Waiting lists can be years-long. Note that “refugees” are put straight to the top of the pile: hence some of the resentment/sense of unfairness. Homelessness is usually associated with mental health issues or substance abuse. Often people forgoe payments for a B&B (from their benefit money), in order to fund their substance abuse. COVID and the housing of tens of thousands of illegal economic migrants arriving in Dover show that the problem can be solved, but for whatever reason, the Government lacks the will.

This guy is winding people up. There are a sizable minority of people who are homeless who desperately want proper accommodation in an area of their choice. Some don't want to be shipped to another part of the country, perhaps onto a drug ridden estate, other's don't want to be housed with other homeless people who might steal, use drugs and be violent. That doesn't mean they don't want a home. There are so may reasons for homelessness and many do have hopeless substance misuse issues and can't be helped in the conventional sense, but there are those who desperately need a helping hand to get into good quality accommodation and help to find suitable employment.

Personally I don't understand how he doesn't claim benefits yet lives on the street, has no means of income, apart from selling The Big Issue. Selling big issue in itself does not generate a living wage, if you see a Big Issue Seller you'll see that the majority of people just walk on by and do not approach the seller to buy, so he can't be earning enough to eat, buy toiletries, water or something to drink etc the full 7 days a week ? ! ..... I don't know where he's coming from with his claims of not receiving some sort of benefits to be honest ......

      @richardblackhound1246 4 роки тому +2

Well, he likes travelling around to anywhere there's a Big Issue office. Obviously, he wouldn't be able to travel around if he was on benefits. When you don'T have a home, you don't have rent to pay, you don't have water, gas and electric bills, you don't have council tax ... or anything. So you don't need anywhere near what "normal" people need to live on. Obviously the guy doesn't have expensive tastes. I don't know how much Big Issue sellers make on average, but I would think 20 quid a day is doable. You can easily live on that if you have no other bills to pay and no expensive drug habit. Even ten pounds a day you could live on. He can also go to free food places for the homeless but maybe he doesn't like doing that.

Think of it like this; he's likely going to rely for the most part, on street feeds. Example: here in Leeds, there are street feeds running everyday, operated by several different organisations, some operating a couple of days, others everyday, giving a substantial meal, plus seconds and a packed lunch to take away! That's not taking into account the five day a week Breakfast on offer too! So, that's his food accounted for as I imagine it's likely very similar in other cities too. I imagine he's quite adept at foraging too! I myself can certainly put a healthy meal together this way, depending on what's available. Bin raiding is another option and I'm guessing he's got a water filter in that heavy pack he's carrying. So, looks like he's sorted and his cash will be for personal needs; maybe travelling, though I'm guessing he'll do a bit of hitch hiking too.
