There are so many companies out there trying to take advantage of the new people and you need to know what to do and how to buy them. This also works with all bullion and each coin or round is different. Knowing the basics of testing is the first step.

I thought I had a fake from JM Bullion. They assured me that they don't sell fakes but if I wanted they would be happy to exchange it for me. I exchanged because of ocd.... I doubt it was actually fake but I switched out the gold gram for another anyway.
I've ordered from them and money metals exchange, but I am waiting on delivery. I ordered an Aztec coin and can't wait to get it. But I'll let you know how exchange is, I've no doubt jmbullion will come through.

Me too. I bought from ITM Trading, Money Metal Exchange. APMEX, JM Bullion. All these were recommended by persons that I have watched their UTV channel. So far its all good.
With prices going up, thieves will be tempted to make some fakes. Everyone be careful!

@@SilverBritches Well, most everyone is aware of fake SDs, and it's reasonable to assume that someone who wanted to counterfeit coins would do "da big ones". Most people, they have not seen zillions of Peace nor Morgan dollars; so even though SDs have a TON of fine details (esp Morgans) and were minted in gargartuan quantities, they are not such a familiar coin. They are also found in every condition imaginable. A 1962 quarter, who looks twice at the thing? That's kind of my point. MUCH easier to c_feit a '62 quarter bec nobody is expecting it and they have many fewer details than a SD.
If you're stupid enough to purchase eagles on eBay because they're cheaper than spot, you deserve to get ripped off lol 😆
Been buying off of ebay since 2008 and have had only one fake, a Peace Dollar.

Banks all used to have granite counters for the "ping" test. If someone put a fake silver coin on there it had that horrible flat sound. Counterfeiting has been around forever.

I test everything. No way everyone tests all their bullion they sell.
I buy from people as well but I have magnets scales calipers and gold and silver test acid plus years of experience buying and selling precious metals

Don't forget "wish" and some of the private sales. Those guys don't know any better. There are some people that try to buy off of that site and flip them in Facebook as well as offer up. So its always good to have a magnet slide and a scale. These 2 tools make like so much easier. But hey, that's just me 😆

I got mine... for only $26 on eBay. Arrived in early January 2021. Mine is a 2014 I wanted. Arrived and looked overly shiny. Weighed in at 28g. On the positive side, it looks good in a capsule sticking to my fridge door via magnet. btw/ it was the first coin I weighed on my $7 ebay scale ;-)
I bought several fakes off of ebay many years ago which is what prompted me to get a scale. I actually ended up scraping the plating off of the fake eagles once I got a refund. It was rampant back in the day.
Off the bat it looks phony; too much of a mirror finish.

.....and the chi-coms get all the hi tech data from the companies that move production over there. They steal it and put out competing products using stolen technology.
I've also notice the Chinese setting up online "storefronts" that make it look like their goods are coming from Japan, Thailand and the US. They even use account names like "UncleJoe" or something like that. When you buy something from "UncleJoe" from Ohio...it gets shipped from Guangzhou, China.
They know what they're doing.

Silver Britches I saw a guy give a gold coin (that he had yet to purchase) the bite test in a coin shop once. True story.
I only buy from the BIG boys...JM...SD...Ampex etc...
The absolute best tool to detect multiple Silver and Gold coins is an app for iphone and android called "Bullion Test". It's free. It uses your phone's microphone to listen and test the wavelength frequency of a ping from the edge of a coin. Cannot fake the frequency of a genuine Gold or Silver coin if it does not have the correct metal composition. Think of a drum cymbal.
I got 40 first test magnet. It failed that. PayPal refunded me. So now I have free capsules to use.
When it comes to ASE proof, I only buy direct from the US Mint. If they send me fakes, then I think we can say that we're all screwed.

For people who understand what the price should be its a no brainer. New folks have no clue.
You don't need an app to tell if a silver Eagle is real. Buy 1 real one from a reputable dealer and you can compare the pitch when you flip the coin to any other silver Eagle. With a real one in your hand, a fake one won't fool you. The counterfeits only need to be good enough to fool you until you get home and start taking a closer look. I don't need a scale, calipers or anything but my hearing to tell a real from a fake Eagle. Wath out for those high premiums,

You contradicted yourself. You said you wanted to buy silver as cheap as possible but then you buy S.E's at a premium price! If, or should I say when, the SHTF, you won't get more than the silver value. I don't EVER but numismatic, EVER. It's a waste of money especially if you are right on funds. The cheapest thing to but is pre 65 junk. It's not only the cheapest, it will double as recognizable money when all he'll breaks loose. Those Eagles are beautiful, but I would never buy them or anything with such a high premium. Just my 2 cents!
I mean no disrespect to you but, I don't stack for shtf. I have constitutional silver I just prefer to have pure silver. All the eagle's I own about 95% of them I paid $2 to $3 over spot. If I sold them today I'd get way over that premium back.
I have three of these exact fakes... purchased on Ebay. Once they arrived I knew right away they were fakes. Got all my money back, seller let me keep the fakes. Question... since they are fakes of U.S. Currency, and do not have the word "Copy" on them, are they illegal to own/possess in the USA ? I was going to manually carve the word "copy" on the shield (reverse), but haven't yet.
I dont know if they are illegal to own but the secret service needs to crack down on these being advertised and imported into our country.

Man I see that shit all the time on Facebook. Silver Eagles for 16 bucks each. I see people saying they just bought 20 or 40 of them. I just shake my head. How do you expect to get silver at half the price of dealers?

The Mints could lazer a QR code onto the coin and register it on the Vechian blockchain using Vethor. An app using the (Vechain my story) would spot a fake in seconds. Vechain is all about stopping fake goods and it's growing fast.

JM Bullion Ripped me off once. I ordered Brand new Johnson Matthey Silver bars. Half my order showed up as old used stock. JM Bullion refused to correct the mistake.

I bought a roll of Eagles off ebay and they were all fake. I was so pissed off! I got my credit card company to reimburse me for them but I had to jump through all kinds of hoops. I still have them and they look very real but they stick to a magnet. I'll never use ebay again! I now use JMBullion.com

Remember when you could buy tubes under $400 :) i truly wonder if we will ever see those prices again. I almost threw up when I saw generics at 25 to 28 this week.

However I have seen those Face Books ads for ASE'S before. They're too good of deals to be true and the thing in at least on the ads I've seen they show them opening a real monster box and the tubes with real ASE'S.

Dude the biggest obvious difference between the fakes and the real ones is that the fakes have a mirror finish real silver does not unless it is collector mint statis
There's also the proof version of the silver eagle.
Yeah, many of these fakes can be spotted with the naked eye. Diameter and weight checks are easy ways to tell. But, for those that are more difficult to detect, try the magnet test (CCT silver slide) Trust but verify from your LCS. Mine is trusted and have seen some fakes get through. Great video my friend!

I use a Sigma Metalytics tester and found 6 fake silver rounds at a pawn shop. They did replace them. I use my tester on each coin I buy.

Ping test? Mine is more like an orchestra test. For my all knew gold rush called the SILVER RUSH... uhh-t-ohh. I can wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait. wait.
The ping test is one of the most reliable tests that doesn't need fancy equipment, and I love the sound of genuine high silver content coins as you gingerly drop them down on a table top or tap them together. Use multiple tests! Weigh the coin. Ping and sound test. Measure the coin. Spin test (that fake failed instantly, didn't need to bother weighing it!). Buy from reputable bullion dealers, LCS, or the mint itself. Here in the UK we stackers can buy silver bullion directly from the Royal Mint, its the safest way. Buyers beware: fakes are out there!

Why is a magnet slide necessary instead of just a magnet? Is it because some silver coins like MX Peso, Spain, Euro etc. have a mix of metals like the U.S gold Eagle?
I don't trust a magnet slide. Different purities will slide differently. If you want to be sure it is what it's supposed to be you need to invest in better detection devices. Obviously an x-ray machine is best but sigma analytics are a great substitute but can also be fooled. So many variables when it comes to testing. There's also the water density test but it confuses a bunch of people but I feel is necessary when buying poured silver.

My main concerns will be knowing if MX Peso coins are real, and eventually proving my ASE's, Gold Maple Leafs, and whatever MX Peso I buy in the near future are real to prospective buyers. So I think a scale, basic magnet, and calipers would serve me OK. I dont buy poured silver.

Do not allow partial refund or scare tactics with fees etc stop you. Dispute & demand FRAUD PROTECTION from the payment processor.
Just assume every gold one is a fake even if it's real. For silver it's about 50/50. You could literally flip a coin for it. Just buy from a reputable dealer online. Suck it up. Of course its going to cost more. They have a reputation to withhold. Play it safe. This is your hard earned money at stake here.

Was going to bring them to the local LCS and show him so he knew what was out there. I haven’t received them yet, but have seen some in the past. They look, smell, and feel real. Be careful everyone. @@SilverBritches fair enough...groups I could probably learn to trust over time. I see ads for rounds and bars all the time knowing their magnetic and just shaking my head at the constant conjob of world.
I buy from eBay and use a magnet test (place the coin flat on your hand and bring up to a large magnet, then move your hand down away from the magnet and you should feel the coin lift off your hand briefly) - It works great on half dollars and silver dollars.
So far the only fake I have is the one I brought from China! The Chinese coin flew off my hand and attached to the magnet - clearly has steel in it. The magnet I use an industrial magnet (N52) and is dangerous to handle. I have it in a fixed location and use it every time I purchase silver coins.

Would it be difficult to resell colored silver rounds. I am looking at one that is mostly black on one side with only a logo in contrasting silver. I am hesitant because buyers might not accept it because of the extra processing involved to melt down the silver.

I checked my twelve silver liberty coins and they sound good. But I have two silver Canada maple leafs with Elizabeth II that don't sound good.
That's the one problem buying on social media, I love to support a fellow stacker, but do not just trust anyone even if they look legit, make sure they have REAL references or you know the person WELL. If you can like britches said if you have a LCS (local coin shop) go in there, talk to the person in there, try learn a it,start a relationship and get some metals there. If you insist on using the web, I am all about supporting an individual but if your new and dont know anyone stick with BIG TRUSTED bullion sites until you have enough knowledge.
