  • Welcome back to Americana Quilting! In today's video, we're diving into a unique and exciting project called "Key to My Krumbs." Inspired by a beautiful block pattern from Brenda at Conquering Mt. Scrapmore, we'll transform our fabric crumbs into stunning quilt keyhole design.
    We explore the art of paper piecing to create a vibrant striped pattern in the heart of every keyhole. This quilt features a delightful mix of blues, greens, and pinky reds, bringing a fresh and colorful touch to your home decor. We'll also add an interesting twist by alternating the blocks between landscape and horizontal orientations, giving the quilt a dynamic and eye-catching layout.
    Whether you're a seasoned quilter or a beginner looking to try something new, this project is perfect for utilizing those cherished fabric scraps and turning them into a beautiful masterpiece. So grab your sewing supplies, and let's get started on the "Key to My Krumbs" quilt together!

    There’s a new notion. It’s a felt tip marker. You open the tip and fill it with water. You can wipe along the seam line. It makes a very fine line of water and your papar piece comes of really easily. No mess

    I have done it with and without paper, and find that without paper works best. It's easy to just sew crumbs together to make a larger block, then cut it to the size I need for my project (in this case 2.5 x 8.5). I do shorten my stitch length to somewhere between 1.5-1.8.

    Love the pinks in your keyhole strips! They really pop against the blues and greens. To make removing the paper easier, check out Karen Brown's video from 5/20/24 on Just Get it Done Quilts. She leaves a quarter inch seam around the paper when trimming them to size. That way, the paper is not caught in the seams when sewing the strips to the top, bottom and sides. Now it is much easier to remove the paper. I can't wait to see a video of you adding hexigons to the quilt in the background! 😊su

    Wetting the paper makes it more difficult just shorten your stitch length, I use a 1.6 then if you give a small tug the papers start separating and come off easily. I also use the tweezers for little stuck bits.

We have two cats that are indoor (daytime while they sleep) outdoor (night time while they hunt) cats and then we have 3 that live in the barn and don't come into the yard because of the dogs!!! I also have an elderly Arabian gelding (36) that lives in our yard, I like to say our house is in his pasture!!! Tell your daughter that I think the dogs steel the show!!!!

    I don’t understand the purpose of paper piecing. Why can’t you just sew the pieces together ??

    • @AmericanaQuilting
      @AmericanaQuilting  2 місяці тому

      Hi Audrey, you certainly can just sew pieces together but the paper gives it so much more stability. Give it a try one time and see if you like it. I have done scraps both ways and I like using the paper much better. Of course now I know from all the comments what paper to use to make it easier to get off!!! Now when you get into intricate piecing like Brenda from Conquering Mount Scrapmore does on her Phycedelic Snowflake the paper is a huge help!!
