There's an unfortunate lack of videos like this for intermediate players. A lot of players at that level feel like to get to the high level they need to develop perfect cue ball control, when the truth is that even the top players haven't done that - what separates them from the rest of the world is their knowledge. Nobody has the ability to play the cue ball onto a pinpoint every time - so it's about playing shots that allow room for error, give you options and backup balls etc.
Great vid. Echo what others have said, very useful help with those soft stuns and screws and also how to navigate your way around the table. More of these vids please. It's the more subtle positional shots I'd like to see more of. Thanks.
Great break Steve wow your really good!!! I love your displays a new feature I've never seen before. You haven't over complicated the video and everything flows smoothly and effectively, and even still there's huge improvement in to get your standard higher and higher. Isn't that amazing :)
As I am really bored right now I decided to go through your vids again. I have been watching this total clearance at least 7 times but I have to really admit that it's a very very good clean break Steve. Thanks for all your efforts for making us better players.
Thats a crazy break! You are nothing short of a WC! And all these videos, omg can’t tell you enough how much they have helped improve my game. I’m a total novice. It used to take me 10 shots to pot 1 ball. But only in a few videos (a week of playing for 1 hour a day), I can pot a red and at least a coloured one after the red before I miss. I also pot a ball every 2-3 shots now. What I’ve improved most on is my cue ball control. I can proudly bring the cueball where I want in every single shot. Also, when I miss my balls I miss them very slightly (often only with the cushion’s jaw). Another amazing improvement has been escaping snookers. I can escape almost all snookers I’m in. This is a huge improvement for me. Thanks a lot!
@@BartonSnooker You're welcome and thanks for all the work you put into these vids! Could you maybe look into a vid about mastering bank shots? Oddly enough there's no bank shot vids (snooker) here on YT....Just a suggestion. Thx again :-)
Another great video, I’ve watched most of your videos and can honestly say I’ve learned a lot and now know what to concentrate on, thanks and please keep them coming.
Thoroughly enjoyed and Thankyou! I liked the fact that I was able to see exactly what is being played, be it a screw, top spin or plain-ball. It helps me navigate through logically knowing how the keep the break going. This is where I get stuck the most playing Pool or Snooker.
yet another great explaination of the whole break building. Time to go back and get my cuing more consistent and reliable.. i'm always thinking I can do better than what i did, and I get frustrated with myself.
Brilliant, very informative, I will try and think ahead about my shot choice a little more. As an aside I lose a lot of my games because my opponent puts me in snookers and I can't get out of them. Are there any exercises or routines that would improve my game or is it just a matter of just playing the game? I know the principle of the ball coming of at the same angle it goes on but I just can't get the angle right. Keep up the good work
Great video,i learn a lot with your channel, here in south brazil snooker doesn't exist, people play 8ball in 6 to 8 ft tables ( really small) , i found a place far from my home that has a 10 ft table with a good cloth and the color balls spots on the table and i go there practice by myself and your videos really made a difference in my ability , really think i am a reasonable player, unfortunately there is not a single 12ft table in the city i live , even after one ranking tournament in 2011 ,the Brazil masters where Shaun murphy won , was held here in Florianópolis , i watch every single event on the tour and i hope i make the into the brazillian championship on day , and also why didn't you go for the 147, the balls where perfectly split and potable and you had 7 reds 7 blacks ?? really think you could have done, you are a really good player , thanks for the videos
Another good video Steve. First black seemed to drop in from miles away and a pink later in the break. Are the pockets opened up for your students as they seem huge. Be great if you could give us a close up video of table.
Thanks 🙂 No, the pockets are just standard club pockets. They're just about standard for any club table I play on. It's always deceptive I think watching things on video. I think it's the reason there's a never ending debate about the pockets on TV being big, even though they're stupidly tight.
It was great to see you play a frame. Maybe against an opponent next time and with some commentary as to shot selection, safety play and general thought process during a competitive frame
Hi,i have been watching your great useful videos for years. i have got short arms in comparisoin with other people same hight as me. should i use a shorter que to play mate? cheers Homayoun
when you are on a break of 9, you took on a black at 1:55 and played it with side... is it to delay the screw effect so that the cue ball goes in that line?
Hi! I actually find it easier to pot that ball using a little bit of side spin. A lot of the professional players will also do exactly the same thing. People call it "helping side". When potting to the left, players add a bit of right-hand-side. When potting to their right, players add a bit of left. Here is a quote Shaun Murphy put on twitter a couple of years ago: Shaun Murphy: "Most players i know use side on most shots. I play nearly every shot with running / helping side." Hope that helps! 🙂
I consider myself as being a v good potter, and my positioning is pretty good also. I have a good understanding of the angles, and can play almost every shot with any side or screw going. I have pulled out shots that some say in my local snooker league that resembles Alex Higgins. Hey, I played Higgy a few years before he passed away in a local exhibition, and won a frame against him. DESPITE all this, my highest break is only 92! I cannot maintain focus long enough to get a really big break. I can hit 40's, 50's, 60's, on a regular basis, but then, I just lose focus, miss an easy shot, or run out of position. These breaks win me frames, but what I really want is a century break! I have been playing snooker since 5 years old and running outta time! I know I have the skill to do it, but I just can't maintain the focus. I'm 35 now and worried I may never hit a century break. No matter what I do, it just doesn't happen! My question is...... Do you have any advice on how to hold your focus (nerve) when given the opportunity for a century? I tend to calculate the score in my head as I play, could this be the distraction? Any Tips or advice would be much appreciated! :)
Hello. You are obviously a very good player, and a break of 92 is not "only" 92... It's 92! Which is a fantastic break. In terms of concentration and focus when approaching a century, I certainly don't go along with the idea that it's a lack of focus. It won't be because you can't maintain focus. Obviously, the higher we go in a break, the MORE we become focussed. Century breaks are a little bit more tricky for a few reasons: 1) we are running out of balls 2) we become nervous as we approach the 100+ barrier 3) shot choice and selection becomes very important. The better the decisions we make, the easier it is to get the 100+ You can obviously pot balls incredibly well, and you have achieved a level way above average. But getting to century break standard requires excellent shot selection as well as dispiline and consistent technical execution. I cover all of these things in my lessons with players and help people to improve in these areas all the time. If you send me an email, I can give you some details and I would be more than happy to help you.
@@BartonSnooker Wow, thanks so much for your detailed reply and the massive confidence boost!! :) I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. You make very good points, and one I think I prob need to work on is shot selection as I am running out of reds! ( Every time I approach the 80 mark, I get excited and fluff it up!) I live in Northern Ireland, so unfortunately can't just pop around for training ( I wish!). I get a lot out of your videos, sometimes it is very easy to forget some basic principles in our play, and I thank you for such a great channel! ( I didn't make clear in my first post that I have made a 100 break in practice, just not against an opponent when the pressure is on!) I really appreciate your advice and help. I will take what you say on board, and hopefully can get back soon with good news! :)

sir can you please make a good video on aiming system. where to aim in the object ball, ghost-ball or CTE? Unless this video on how to aim is made, all others look complicated. After all, if we can't find exact point in the object ball, no matter how well our pre-shot routine and other factors are, we are guaranteed to miss the pot. Please
