i think this song is amazing! The message is that of something true and a real passion towards his country! For this i give him kudos! He is never afraid to speak what he feels! He is a role model!!
After listening to K'Naan, I have been curious about Somali music, litrature and poetry... But I can only read in English. I think this song illustrates it a little. My favorite from his songs so far!
I was amazed when I found out this guy. It's been a long time since we had a musician that is something else than just good hums. He is a life force. His music is really inspiring. The first time I listened to him I inmidiately thought of him as the "new Bob Marley" in a whole different way though hahahahahaha Looove his african rythms :) I congratulate him for getting through such a hard life and still have the strenght to keep fighting for his people in such a peaceful and universal way :)
The original song is by Fatuma Abdullahi Mandeeq and its called Sidii Hogosha Roobka" which means like thunder in a rain - its a love song. basically she is saying you stroked my eyes from a distance like a thunder with lightening in a rain...its very popular song in Somalia.
The Beats lyrics and Original Oud all belongs Great Mohamud Isma'el Hudeydi and Classic of Mandeeq. But K'naan took only the Beats Chores......i admire tue guy so much
K'naan unplugged sounds much better than the Studio records. Will there be an unplugged album soon? I like this "real voices" "real instruments" more than harmonized voices and synthesizer... K'naan has a wonderful voice and he seems to like what he is doing and singing as you can see in his moving body while singing ;-) Looking forward hearing from you more soon. Greetz from Austria (no Kangaroos here)
I don't really know what to say. I just love K'Naan. I got tickets to see him and Lupe this weekend in Ithaca. Still trying to figure out transportation but I'm soooo determined to make it.
@funkateerkitty On the Ivory Coast? Ivory Coast (aka Côte D'Ivoire) is another country in West Africa. Sierra Leone is farther out West. No hating though, just fixing the facts:)
@shumeeey The rude words are not really necessary... Makes yourself sound like an inconsiderate douchebag. Anyways, I personally have to disagree when you say he can't sing. He has that reggae/hip-hop mix flare with his voice that makes it very soothing to listen to, which flows well with the beat and music he and his group composes. That's why this man is great. Not only that, if you listen to the lyrics, it's incredible. I bet you are one of those kids who are Ke$ha fans lmao!

K'naan you are the chosen son of the horn. Don't let Babylon change you.
God bless you.
This honestly is the best song ever. It is so subtle and whimsical. By far the best song by K'naan. Its slow horns make me want to jive. JEEz
