The biggest problem Birmingham City face this season is the fans expectations

Could argue the expectations are justified though given we've probably spent more dough than the whole league combined lol
I'm not expecting it to be easy though. Bc we have spent so much every other team in the league will want to try and beat us
@@TrevorFrancisWalksonWater I think everyone does but unfortunately reading fan pages on Facebook, a large number of fans think we should be winning every game by several goals and spending 90 mins on the attack.

Yesterday… playing May on the wing and not in his goal scoring centre forward predator position & not playing Stanno to his strengths or position.
In the league we are not flattering & have several times had to rely on late goals to either save or win games.
Just hope this is not his tactics for the future and he reverts to our 2 best goal scorers to their positions of strength.
Early days I know but tough games coming up & the team may need more time to develop together so just hope in the League, CD gets it right.
The BSM Cup is irrelevant & if CD used the Walsall game as an experiment for players, that’s all it should be as it was not good.
This blues style of play at this stage reminds me of the England team in the Euros. A lot of possession, build up play, and "moments". With the opposition team having a flat back four and Blues/England finding it hard to break down them down.
100. Was literally thinking this myself. Also that passage of play where a left winger gets the ball and has to constantly cut back in, really reminded me of England Euros..
With this type of play I think blues forwards will be starved of service need to be more direct
If you look at the Euros England struggled to breakdown teams that sat back be we're more fluid against the better teams. The difference I see with Blues is that we do move the ball quicker than England did. Sometimes they were completely stationary but we keep moving and probing.
Feel like it’s a system with a lot of intricate play which is going to take some time and has done, but also a system like this doesn’t really lend itself to swapping players around much, could do with finding his best 11 and slowly introducing others, I dunno but not fussed about last night, felt more like a reserve game tbh

It remains to be seen, whether May and Stansfield WILL work playing together. Stansfield is a youngster, and l would like him to be left alone and concentrate on his football. The more unnecessary chatter is focused on, the young man will be affected. Let it drop , I say.

Stansfield is an emotional guy & CD has to let him play in his favoured position & not try & do a Rooney with him else as you also state…. It will affect him.
We have a natural finisher in May and a forward who admits his favourite position is anywhere behind the 9 in Stansfield. We have a perfect number 10 in Thor and two great LFs. The team picks itself. I can’t see why it would be difficult for Davies. 🤯🤯🤯
I don't think its difficult as much as he is experimenting.
Think the changes for the walsall match are a one off because he was letting key starters rest for international matches, which is the right move to help build morale, and laird, Harris and keshi are injured

Our season really starts after the international break. New players should have bedded in and know what’s expected of them.

In short Walsall showed up and we struggled to Gel with all the new fresh faces ... CD will get this sorted during the Intl break ... nothing to worry about.
More concerning going forward will be the Stansfield / May relationship and how CD manages that one.

Let’s not forget we had a makeshift left back and right back to start. A lot of our attacks come down the wings and we missed laird and cochrane. Also several new faces who hadn’t played together before. Let’s give it another 5 games and see where we are
Makeshift Rightback? Taylor Hickman has played 2-3 seasons in the championship playing right back for WBA and Bristol before converting to midfield. Steve Bruce claimed right back was his best position.
@@TheInline5 in Steve Bruce’s opinion he’s a right back. He can play there but he’s makeshift in the sense that Laird would have been an attacking wing back getting up and down the line putting crosses in. T G-H was more like a half back, sitting more narrow, covering the space with wright providing the width. It’s completely different to what we’ve had in any of the previous games we’ve played. So yeah makeshift.
@@rickypotter8526 I agree Laird would be infinitely better but Walsall are league 2 and he's played against championship wingers before. TBH it was leftback that killed us. I would have played a back 3 over playing Khela at left back
Walsall stunned me how organized and good they were and if they do not finish in the top
They played like that in the pre-season, it was no surprise to me. Agree with you, they are very strong.
Early days yet. If they get play offs they’ll do well!

We need a plan B for when teams park the bus and play counter attack , every game we’ve been caught out , teams will copy that blueprint
Thought it was a terrible performance, however again because of transfers we have a different team to get players a run out. Still early days, once we figure out how to get the ball up front quicker we'll be fine (I hope!).
It think terrible is a bit steep, like you alluded this is a group of young lads who have had less than 2 months together.

Stansfield on the right May up top
I think Alfie should keep his position up front no 9 and j stansfield somewhere like the old inside left or inside right position.It will be a big debate for a few games yet, a bit worried about Wrexham. Kro.
May has to play down the middle and Stansfield wide while we have both at the club. Stansfield role will change over time and he will grow into the no 9 role but not at this moment
May 4 in 4 & a finisher, poacher can't see the point of shunting him wide, if JS is the striker then I do wonder where May fits in as he doesn't seem effective as a 10 or wide is wasted imo

I feel Alfie May is consumed with scoring goals at times to the detriment of the team when a better pass is available. You saw this a few times in pre-season with Roberts not getting an easy pass for a sure goal. I think the Stansfield addition is a threat to him and he wont want to share. Davies will feel pressure to start both of them at first and make it work but it wont and the result is going to be May starting with Stansfield coming on as a sub for him for as a best result. Next year, May will have to be sold.

Last night was crap. Properly crap. We should not be having these problems with the teams we’ve played and the squad we have, the amount of money we’ve spent. I’m not just speaking about Walsall either - we’ve not look convincingly like we are the best in the league any game so far.
If Laird and Anderson had been rotated more then they wouldn't be crocked already. Those two needed wrapping up in cotton wool, not starting every game. We will struggle to create much without these two key players.
We will lose to the more direct play methods on the counter from other teams and the passing in our box gets the hairs on the back of the neck stand to attension hate it.
Get use to playing from the back...its what we are now
