  • STONEWALL is a drama about a fictional young man caught up during the 1969 Stonewall riots. Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) is forced to leave behind friends and loved ones when he is kicked out of his parent's home and flees to New York. Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends Ray (Jonny Beauchamp) and a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn; however, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven. As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build. This emotion runs through the entire community of young gays, lesbians, drag queens and trans people who populate the Stonewall Inn and erupts in a storm of anger. With the toss of a single brick, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born.

Marsha P Johnson and many others were known from this moment in history. Not some white guy from a farm. So don't think some 51 secs clips to make us say " Oh there she is"

They were the main ones known but that doesn't mean that a white guy from a farm wasn't there. Most of the people were cis white gay men

+Devon Tillman that may be true but they were apart of that moment. They should have been the lead characters. The story line is placed around a white guy. That's not the story I was told.

Tre Taylor The thing is that this is a fictional movie inspired by stonewall they never claimed it to be an exact representation. And none of us know how big of a role Marsha or anyone will actually be playing in this movie for peopel to be judging it so harshly before they even see the film.

+Tre Taylor Didn't you know, every story in history needs to be told through the eyes of a white man, real or fictional!

The reviews are coming out. This movie basically just uses the riots as a convenient backdrop to tell the coming-of-age story for a fictional, Midwest, white, pretty boy...and, per every single review I've read, a poorly-scripted story, at that.
The naysayers were right, all along.

We'll see how the movie is when it comes out in theaters. The Stone Wall Riots are such a vital part of our gay history and I hope they do this justice.

I agree, I don't know what to make of it because there's so much controversy about it. I thought it looked good when I saw the trailer, then everyone let rip & I get that...indeed, we'll just have to see.

I need to see this. I recently started hanging out in Williamsburg and went to the Martha P. Johnson Park. I never knew what her name was or meant or who she was. I googled it and meandered my way here. Knowledge is power.

I hate how they said drag queen because Marsha was transgender and drag queens and transgender people are completely different

Marsha isn't trans, she is a homosexual male and drag queen.

But ppl were saying transvestite and transsexual back then. You really didn’t hear transgender

Marsha was a gay male drag queen. The conflation of transsexuals with drag queens is harmful. No transsexual in the world wants a “trans umbrella”. He was a proud gay man he’s said it in interviews. Why the obsession with trying to paint him as “trans”, he was a gay male drag queen/transvestite who dressed up in feminine clothing for kicks! Stop transsexual erasure.
