I bought one of these Dior quints on recommendation (thankfully on sale and in neutral tones) and it's trash, despite the raves. Honestly, I do love luxury makeup, but there is a lot that I have bought on the recommendation of some of these beauty youtubers who review luxury makeup (who got it for free in PR, won't say who they are because they have a huge fan base and I will be attacked) and I was shocked at how bad it was. I felt duped and my trust in these people has gone down considerably. I rarely buy luxury anymore, unless it's a brand that I know has served me well in the past. It's just not worth the money. Luxury makeup can be worse than drugstore, but it's reputation is protected by fancier packaging and a hefty price tag.
Yess, I'm sometimes almost tempted when things like that blush are super hyped but videos like this bring me back to reality. It's usually either mediocre or just ok makeup hiding behind the hype and luxury price tag.
I am always so sus on really expensive, luxury items because I feel like they charge so much for the name. And also sus on really, REALLY cheap items because they will be full of crap and false promises. xD
I love Robert for how unbiased he is. He utterly bashed the eyeshadow pilot, but RAVED about the glow palette. He takes himself out of the brand stigma and/or popularity associated with it and reviews the makeup items PURELY for their quality and enjoyment.
This is why I listen to him over all other beauty youtubers, what he says is truly helpful because it’s so unbiased. Just a true professional giving his honest opinions and explaining his reasons for them
To be perfectly honest, I didn’t even realize Robert needed a haircut. He always looks so amazingly well put together. I don’t even wear makeup, but I’m here for every video.
Right? I’m hard-pressed to think of a single instance that he looked anything less than perfect (apart from when James has done his makeup, or he’s followed a 5-minute crafts tutorial 😂).
"... I'm never going to move on, you know- emotionally..." I am personally sorry that you had to experience that. On behalf on everyone that has spent money on a designer product that turned out to be shit, we collectively felt that.
Can you do like top tens of your favorite makeup items. Doesn't have to be ten but I'm just curious what are your go to blushes, and foundations and such now.
Yes! I fully support this suggestion! I watch all these videos and make mental notes about which products Robert prefers as well as which ones could work for me, but I often forget everything after five minutes. A comprehensive video laying out his top picks would be fabulous!
I think this would be a great video. Would you consider doing an updated brow video? I know in most instances you do your brows off camera unless you’re testing out a new brow product but I would love to know what are your current favorites are. My brows are really stubborn. They never stay in place and when I get a product that does hold they end up looking a little dusty or dull throughout the day.
Robert is literally gorgeous and someone, somehow, thought it'd be okay to make fun of his hair and beard because they're growing? Like...why? Aside from that, Robert is such a breath of fresh air in the beauty community. He doesn't lie to us when products are junk, even if said product is expensive and "high end". I'm so glad I found this channel.
Omg I completely understand how a bad product can ruin your whole mood, especially a product you have purchased. I hope you get your money back. "I've had the worst time today" 🤣🤣🤣
yes I bought one Dior eyeshadow quad when I was younger and I was shocked at how bad the quality was, especially for the price. it just seemed like clear markup for the name and a high end brand really has to wow me for me to buy anything from them now.
I agree! Makeup as expensive as any of these ultra luxury brands had better put itself on my face and take itself off at night. I bought a Dior mascara and it wasn't worth 1/4 of what I paid. I'll stick to my Collab and Essence mascaras.
You know you can trust Robert's review: he still reviewed everything thing else fairly despite being put off by the eyeshadows. I appreciate you. PS: loved the push back at the start. The nerve of some people.
You tell them Robert . It’s your hair and face you could cut it when you want. It doesn’t matter if you put yourself out there, doesn’t mean ppl have the right to tell you what to do. Good job 👍🏽 mic drop for Robert!!
I was doing my friend’s makeup for her wedding (this was literally on her wedding day) and she had bought Dior eyeshadow and wanted me to use that. And it is awful!!! Had to try and save it with my own eyeshadows on top and it took like an extra hour… so horrible But the Backstage highlighter palette is a whole different story! Use it everyday, I’m obsessed with it
The fact that you upload this video with your own English subtitles (not the auto one) ... I'm a foreigner, english is not my first language and I appreciate your effort !!!! ^^
People are so weird. Who cares how long your hair is?! You could have zero hair, or hair down to your knees, and I’d still watch for the technique, the content, and the man delivering it. 💜🖤
my mum caught a glimpse of the vid over my shoulder and asked if it was hair tutorial (cos im training to become a hair dresser) so rob's hair clearly looks fine enough to be suspected to be the main attraction :P
Robert's reaction to the eyeshadow is how I react when something goes wrong at work. Also "I'm never going to move on emotionally" is a whole freaking mood. Felt the same way when I tried on a new tinted moisturizer and found out the wrong color had been sent.
Robert (and James) has such a calming voice and tone even when he's annoyed. It's like unintentional ASMR. I could listen to him and his brother all day.
Robert is by far my favorite makeup artist and I have to admit I got so sad when he said "black and silver is so 2000!" As funny as it is, I still love a black and silver smoky eye for like new years eve or a special occasion 😭😭😭

Honestly, Robert, your disgust at that eyeshadow is a whole MOOD, Sir! 🤣. I cannot stress how refreshing your honesty is. And you’re bloody hilarious! 🤣🤣
I think I almost died laughing when your lashes got blown off. Thank you for all you do and I have found so much joy in watching your unbiased reviews. 💚
Robert’s eyeshadow review explains the horrendous ads Dior is doing with the 80s eyeshadow pad stick. They’re so bad you have to use ancient makeup technology to move them around.
Maybe I was too young to realize 😂😂😂😂 It would be nice to see how the palette quality from those (since they have been out for a while) would compare to eyeshadows now, if they are still worth the pricing that they have now
Oh honey, I haven’t laughed out loud so much in an age . And then to top it off the eyelashes😂 That highlighter though is gorgeous similar to Sydney Grace pumpkin spice latte .
Dior has been in the eyeshadow game forever and they have no excuse for this. They do great mascaras and foundations, but their shadows are absolutely not worth it. I think the formulations have changed, too, because I used to love their shadows 15 or so years ago. Now I buy the Chanel quads if I want to be bougie - the color stories are relatively muted, but the shadow quality is great.
The interesting thing about Dior is that their limited edition items, especially eyeshadow palettes, seem to miss more than hit. I'm actually surprised you didn't use some of the more popular items from Dior's regular line, like their forever skin concealer and foundation. In general their Forever and Backstage lines seem to be great across the board.
You never have to defend yourself for being human but it seems others need that reminder. Thank you for being unapologetically you, you make the rest of us realize what normal looks like. Your content is so uplifting and makes makeup more realistic.

Everytime I see you and your brother's videos, I am so in love with the aesthetic around you two. You're turning a very preppy person into a goth. Your skin looks especially beautiful today! 🥰
Honestly, the moment I saw it wasn't blending *at all* my jaw dropped, but him still pulling out an amazing look is a true testament to his skill. If that happened to me, I would've just taken it off and cried, lmao
Hi Robert hair cut, no haircut is always a treat to have you, don’t listen to the haters their opinion does not exist! You are loved by many and obviously their negativity can’t touch you! Shine bright like the diamond you are!
I laughed so much. Robert was so damn angry about the eyeshadow that I was half expecting that he would throw it of across the room while yelling "BAD! BAD!"
Can we all just take a second to appreciate how both Robert and James add references to timings throughout their videos ! I love watching the whole thing but sometimes it makes things so much more easier
Yours are the only makeup videos i watch and literally laugh out loud.... like laugh from the inside.. when you said " no wonder they just use the little sponges and leave it like those photos we all saw".. and "I'm never going to recover emotionally "...😅😅
This makes me feel so much better. I wasn’t familiar with shading and bought that eyeshadow in another color scheme. It was terrible…I thought it was me! Thank you
I've never heard of it referred to as that. That's so cute 😁 also 40 plus, but still sometimes try to pretend like I have hope with these hooded eyes 🤭 it's for fun anyway! 🤷♀️
If I hadn’t seen how much you struggled with that eyeshadow palette, and I had only seen the outcome I would have thought it was a good one. I love the look you created.
I really really like seeing him do such a dark eye bec I can see how he’s buffing out the edges and also bec it’s so patchy it’s like I can see his technique more so than when it’s a good shadow lol but the color brings out the brown in his eyes like glowing beautiful
You’re right! Because he had to work hard to blend the shadows it made it easier to see his technique. The dark burgundy looked great because he’s a dark winter in seasonal color analysis. He looks best in dark jewel tone colors. I wish he would apply darker slightly cooler blushes and lips.
@@BbGun-lw5vi but my favorite part about this was when he said “yes I’m going to move on not emotionally but whatever” and I don’t know if he would do cooler toned blush and lips not even sure he blush and lip color on himself it lol I think he does that for our benefit.
Robert!!!!! That whole eye shadow meltdown took me out🤣😂🤣😂 only because I purchased one of those palettes from Sephora and took that Sh*t right back!!But the Backstage face and body foundation is one of my holy grails!! I haven’t decided if I want to try one of the blushes yet because that palette traumatized me lmaooooo!! Great video!! 🥰🥰🥰
ugh, i had a palette in that same dior packaging from the early 2000s. It was my mums but she handed it down to me and i used it until it was passed expired until one day i woke up with a stye. Definitley learned my lesson lol but it was such a stunning eyeshadow, i loved it !!
Now, I'm in a bind. I really love shadows that just don't budge. I usually don't blend my shadows too much especially really dark and bold colors because I like to just place them at a certain spot. So Robert's bad review makes me want the shadows, lol.
Yeah, but he said the eyeshadow was patchy and adhering to certain parts of his eye. That's never good!!! If you want a high impact eye shadow, there are better options that aren't so overpriced : )
The proper way to end a date:
“I’ve had the worst time today, thank you for joining me” 🤣🤣🤣
I can't stop laughing at him saying that 🤣
I popped into the comments to make sure someone else latched onto that too. 😂
“I’m never going to move on emotionally”
Robert Welsh on Dior eyeshadow 😂
😂😂
Honestly that's how my needy, emotional ass feels most of the time 🤣

Apart from the texture being terrible, the color of that eyeshadow did make your eyes look very nice. It brought out the brown so nicely :)
Makeup as expensive as DiOr should perform. Sad this didn’t work out. I love your channel. Your tips have changed my make up game!

Robert in therapy: .... And I've never been able to move on emotionally since that day I used that unbelievable sh*t Dior eyeshadow
Just sitting here eating Hershey’s Kisses and watching Robert lose his mind over eyeshadow lol
"I've never gonna move on emotionally".
Same 😢
I just wanted to say when you said "Ive had the worst time today- thank you for joining me" it made me bust out laughing.
😂 lol me too… I’m thinking of saying it at parties now
Me too 😂
This makes me feel so much better. I wasn’t familiar with shading and bought that eyeshadow in another color scheme. It was terrible…I thought it was me! Thank you
I do the 40 plus year old women's garage door technique where you just paint your eyelids 1 colour so I'd probably love this 😀
I've never heard of it referred to as that.
“I’ve had the worst time today….. thanks so much for joining me…” Lolol I love you so much Robert!!!
Even tho it would blend; I do like the maroon dark shade shadow on you. It makes your natural eye color stand out more 💜
I really really like seeing him do such a dark eye bec I can see how he’s buffing out the edges and also bec it’s so patchy it’s like I can see his technique more so than when it’s a good shadow lol but the color brings out the brown in his eyes like glowing beautiful
@@tq5620 That was my favorite part too! I think you’re right that he does that for our benefit. But I’d love to see him try those shades.
It made me giggle when he said “I’ve had the worst time today. Thank you so much for joining me.”😂
Love your honesty and humour, as always. Can you do a full face of Eye of Horus please!?
i’m so in love with the colors in the palette. the ghostly foundation and the dark eyes are totally my vibe
The colors where beautiful, I just wish the texture was as good!
Yeah my goth soul loved the colours 😅 but the performance of the eyeshadow was terrible
@@nightvisitor6079 hahaha those were my exact thoughts throughout the whole video
10:07 "Okay, let's move on. I'm never gonna move on, like, emotionally, but let's move on"
I really felt that.
I shouldn't be laughing so hard, but I've never seen you so frustrated before 😂😂😂! But this is the type of honesty we appreciate from you! 💜
ugh, i had a palette in that same dior packaging from the early 2000s. It was my mums but she handed it down to me and i used it until it was passed expired until one day i woke up with a stye. Definitley learned my lesson lol but it was such a stunning eyeshadow, i loved it !!
Hey Robert, hope you are doing well! Your eyeshadow meltdown had me. I’ve never been interested in Dior and now I know why !
Hey! I hope you are too! 🖤🖤
On the plus side the color of the eyeshadow made your eyes POP! Totally looks like a 90s or 2000s vampire look tbh.
Your sincerity is Brutal ... I LOVE IT
Roberts emotions during this video were like a rollercoaster! And still he looks amazing in this Dior look! 🧐😁
OMG... This is the most entertaining make-up review I've seen in a very long time. Thank you, Robert.
