4:07 I think what’s crazy is the fact this was arguably one of the most requested covers for WxS before it came out, and was extremely hyped when it was confirmed coming to the game, so seeing no one really talk about the cover after it dropped made me shocked 😭
For Childish War, I do agree the cover was kind of a let down but it was obvious we weren’t gonna get the shinonomes covering it unless if we got some special sibling themed campaign, the community was kind of hyping itself up too much 😭
I like how Miracle paint is one sentence and then Showtime Ruler right after is a paragraph (technically also one sentence,but yk) big enough to fit the screen if it wasn’t re-sized 😭
I agree with most of your opinions but imo ego rock SEKAI ver is so much better than the VS. This cover is so fun and always make me smile and the full ver is sooo good!!
I agree with lost ones weeping but it makes me so sad knowing it flopped…they had sm potential there and it went to waste

Agree with you on God-ish and Phony surpringly, phony always sounded so awkward and soft, and I could never get on board for God-ish, its like a sequel to Akian GimmeXGimme with the mixing
I really don’t think we would’ve even had a chance with ever get a childish war cover with Ena and Akito, I mean…besides the meaning of the song, it doesn’t suit them at all. I don’t even think it suits their vocals. Sega and Craftuegg (?) rarely do mixed covers anyway, and chose songs based off of genre, theme and vocal tone rather than meaning USUALLY. There’s some songs that fit very well with meaning, like Love me Love me Love me and Bitter Chocolate Decoration with Mafuyu. (For anyone wondering, no Aishite Aishite Aishite isn’t about Yanderes, it’s about a girl who’s parents have high expectations of her. And the girl develops golden child syndrome from how much she’s praised.)
You were so right on kyuukurarin n egoist, love ka, etc. (actually the covers were another reason why i avoided this game until i was able to adapt to their voices and niigo was my first to adapt to)
if only if vocaloids were tuned with the same tuning as the original, and if only if sega doesn't tune miku to make her sound like gumi, for example
Btw, Len's dappou rock volacs and Miku's Otome Kaibou vocals were redone for the full version of the songs

I find the Showtime Ruler one really interesting, I find that it’s like, the perfect level in terms of not being too over or under stimulating because uh, ASD. I totally get your point about a song being TOO much though, and whilst I don’t necessarily find any Proseka songs overstimulating, I do with certain songs, the first one that springs to mind is literally half of the entire “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” album, it’s just too damn loud.
EDIT: I would like to mention a couple of anomalies in terms of tuning. For some reason, the tuning of Your Adventure Log has Vanished! Is completely different in game compared to on the actual SEKAI albums. It takes it from a song I really enjoy to damn unplayable in game. Same goes for Dappou Rock because I never really had an issue with Rui and Tsukasa’s singing like you do, I love the song, but don’t really touch it in game, it’s just not the same. Also, sometimes I really wish we could have the original self covers in game from artists. I really like a few of Three’s self covers (Ego Rock goes hard) and Ado’s self covers are actually top tier.
I agree with you on Okochama Sensou (I like the kagamines better) but not on lost ones weeping😭
I dont agree with alot of these, BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MENTIONING PHONY! Phony is my favorite song and to see it ruined was so disappointing. I also agree with the meiko thing, she really just doesn't sound very good in my opinion.

I do like some of these covers but I do agree with a lot of the points you made here !! Egoist definitely is not as good as a group cover !! I also agree that MEIKO shouldn’t have been in the Kyu-kurarin cover. I noticed they tend to put her in covers of songs that are originally sang by KAFU and Kaai Yuki, but she doesn’t even sound similar to them and they don’t seem to tune her right to actually fit those songs. For the Kyu-kurarin cover, she did sound more robotic like KAFU in the original, but I still don’t think she’s tuned in a way that makes her voice blend nicely with MMJ’s.
God-ish is one of my favorite covers, but I don’t like how Miku just .. screams at one point in the song? And I totally agree with what you said about her tuning in the Aishite(x3) cover, I think they should’ve kept her original tuning or tried to make it similar to her original tuning for that cover.

i definitely agree for kyu-kurarin, it would’ve been better without meiko and maybe it would’ve been better for just 2 of them to sing since i really only like how airi and haruka sounds.
Meiko is only there because there's some lines that must be filled out by a 5th singer, but they let Meiko sing a little TOO much and she sounds ass there, kinda ruins the whole vibe, i wish they'd use like maybe her soft voice or smth they keep using their normal voicebanks

HEAVY on childish war… pjsk needs to make more room for cross-unit covers. i know that each respective group has their own genres and such, but there are so many relationships within pjsk that extend beyond those groups. siblings, classmates, clubmates… why don’t we get to see more covers with different fun groupings? in summary, jitterbug with mizurui. goodnight vocaloid nation.
As someone whos fav song in the whole game is Ottome Dissection, I am still supper sad on how people hate the song so much but i understand since it could have been better

The way that ik this is your opinion and i respect that entirely, but i was like gonna cry at the end because all of these songs are my favorites..
As a fan for well over a decade, you are correct at every point including the explanations. I also think an issue is that the songs are mixed differently, which normally isn't an issue- if not for the fact that some of the newer arrangements lose some of the original's charm. Adding real vocals on top of that can make the effect even worse.
I was very surprised to see someone having the exact same opinion as I do about Kyu-Kurarin cover, I was confused in the first place when I found out it was in JPSK as a MMJ song. I fully agree with you
Edit: Just watched full video and saw that Phony was included!! AAA thank you so much for addressing that! Phony is my favorite PJSK song, and I was really disappointed about MEIKO in the cover. I always play with the original KAFU, it sounds SO MUCH better.
most of the problems with the songs i agree with u about is the way they mix the vocals or when they decide who's singing what . i don't play this game right but i noticed in lost one's weeping they have someone sing the low harmonies at the SAME VOLUME as the main track and then in showtime ruler they have the jump-cut to someone else singing 😭 like they need to get every band member in a lab and figure out who sounds good with which loid or which other member

Ichika singing so high in Lost One's Weeping is the reason I bought the Shiho cover, I feel like it would've been alright if they made Ichika's VA sing lower, it sounds really weird when they both sing like that but in my opinion Shiho's cover is peak (not the same level of peak as original vocaloid ver but still good i guess)
In ego rock im pretty sure they tuned len into matching the pitch of the rest of the group

10. Showtime Ruler - i have never seen someone dislike this song, but i understand why ig? The songs i usually say i like are ones i don’t mind listening to all day and this one isn’t one of them. Still a good cover imo, FAR better than Rins

as world's biggest kimagure mercy fan who probably wouldn't have found the song without the mmj version, i have to agree that the mmj version just kinda sucks. usually i always tend to prefer the sekai covers over the originals but in kimagure mercy's case the original is a quadrillion times better, honestly.
also, as world's second biggest wxs fan, i do also agree love ka kind of sounds horrible and it's definetly because of meiko. seriously she sounds possessed lol (part of me does find it a little charming though)

Ok so idk if you need an explanation but proseka pitched Len's voice down an octave so he can harmonize with wxs better + it would sound more unnatural if he had a higher pitched voice. As for Dappou Rock his tuning sounds better in the full ver so I'd reccomend trying to listen to that :D
This is done a lot in proseka covers which I don't always agree with but I understand why they have to, especially cause Surii's and Neru's tuning for Len can be pretty high pitched at times. I honestly think out of all the vocaloids Len's NT tuning is done the best but that's just my opinion

The VOCALOID versions sound so much cleaner, and people like Tsukasa are good in some songs but suck in others

Imo, sekai covers are pretty boring compared to the original, and try to cram in too many singers in one song regardless of whether of the song fits the characters story-wise or voice-wise, which leads to a lot of mid or downright awful covers that all sound pretty same-y despite the diverse array of music the source material has to offer (-_-;)
I find a lot of the time, the covers sound boring regardless of how good the vocaloid is tuned, and the vocaloid isn't even the worst aspect of a lot of covers(Especially since I already know the vocaloid is going to sound bad anyway). It doesn't even feel like the vocalists are giving a new take on a cover, it just sounds like taking away everything that made the original song noteworthy in the first place. It's a big crime to me since all of the VAs actually have pretty decent singing voices, but get bogged down by being told to sing in the most boring or annoying way possible in the game (-᷅_-᷄๑). For a few examples, "Itadaki Babel" featuring Kohane's VA(And a remix by Aiobahn/person behind internet yamero and overdose), An's VA's personal cover of Odo, Haruka's and Shizuku's VA's personal of Phony, and Airi's VA's entire discography. They all show the VA's singing in, what I find, more interesting styles than how they sound in game
I wish sekai actually utilized their voice talent, but it seems like they're more content with making covers that sound really boring and clash with how the original song sounds without putting a new spin on it or the VA's personal interpretation
Ghost rule was mentioned, so I'm going to use it as an example here, but even with all the hype surrounding the song and the growl that a cover artist put in that became the standard with ghost rule covers, you can admit that those ghost rule covers did something new with the song whether you like them or find them unnecessary. At least those covers made their own spin on the song, especially people who put a lot of effort into the tuning and mixing and didn't just do a plug n play cover.
I don't feel that with sekai covers, sekai covers just don't feel like they're doing... anything. A lot of the time it sounds like the characters are talking with a melody over it rather than actually singing, which is boring to listen to. At least if the cover went in a direction I didn't like, but it was obviously the team's personal interpretation of the song, then I wouldn't be so harsh about it, but they all just suck the life out of a lot of songs and make it sound almost empty at times even though all characters are yelling the melody at once.
With these songs I once adored and listened to on repeat, I found myself just thinking they were now just "okay" or even... dull, which is really disappointing for a game I was excited for when the jp version was originally announced.

I hate meiko sm she ruined covers that would be so good without her. My fave vocaloid producer is inabakumori and my faves char are mizuki and kanade, lagtrain was my dream coming truth but they put meiko do ruin it and i'll never forgive her for this.
MEIKO isn't a bad VOCALOID, she simply has a terrible NT, outside of SEKAI, she sounds amazing when tuned right i promise

I love project sekai don’t get me wrong but I only really use the vocaloid versions (the original) as a vocaloid fan of 9 years I’m kinda disappointed in the covers (I’m probably being over dramatic and based but whatever)

*inhales* rui’s voice is the only one that doesn’t suck ass in the sekai version. for starters, nene sounds like emu, and emu sounds like a raccoon on helium. rins tuning is horrible and sounds way too robotic compared to the rest. tsukasa sounds warbly and doesn’t have a consistent voice. in the chorus, instead of all their voices melding into one beautiful symphony- you can hear everyone and tune out the others. they sound like a crowd in a mall. line distribution also is bad.
