What a fantastic display of what this snare can do. Awesome playing. Man has the groove
I paid $500 for this snare. Worth every penny
Uhhh this guy is too good for this. Amazing playing.
Came for the snare, stayed for the chops :D
Holy hell the BITE on this snare in the medium tuning is unreal. Every snare I've bought in the last 6-7 years has been because of MDS demos. The best!
Glad you enjoy them!
Really complete demo. Nicely done. I own this snare. Playing it feels different then the other snares I own. It has a nice feel on impact at all the tuning ranges. My stick sinks into it; yet there is rebound/return to it too. Best way to describe is like when your head hits a pillow that you really like. It is a all-purpose snare, but maybe not ideal for classic rock as it isn't the loudest snare on the market (nor does it claim to be.) I am happy I bought it and it looks great paired with really any kit/color.
I don’t mind if it’s not so loud. My purpose is for the studio so it would be fine.
Sounds better here, than on the Gretsch Mike Johnston videos..
Great on high tuning..
Been on fence about this one for weeks. Great demo. Pretty sure I’m gonna pull the trigger soon. Thanks
Amazing drummer
It has this sort of warm vinyl record tone to it which would be great in songs and probably instrumentals/jams too.
I just recently bought one to go along with my new Renown kit( Im a recent Gretsch convert)!!!! It is billed by MJ as an all around snare can be tuned as a(metal & wood)snare. I love it!!!!! It has become my go to snare!!!!
I own this drum, I have it paired to a DW performance series set. I absolutely love it. I agree with another poster that this drums sweet spot is high or low, the mid is kinda meh. But it sings. I have remo hazy snare side and and a p3 stick side. The p3 muffles it a bit more than some May like, but this is a very versatile drum, and it’s gotten many compliments from my drummer friends.
Its a Very Very good SNARE drum ...i dreming..one day i have one.gretsch SNARE drum I live in Brazil here no exist this ..a very.good SNARE... beautiful sound
If you come sometime to Chile you can go and buy at Drum Dealer. They're official distributors of Gretsch and can do a lot for you, for sure!
Gretsch is kind of a small company. Maybe you can buy the Tama maple snare instead. They’re a bigger drum company and probably have more availability worldwide. Tama has a good reputation too
Great snare sound, and great playin' too!
Fab playing , such LOVELY drum.
LOVED this at low tuning. High tuning was great too. Medium tuning didn't do much for me.
Great player, great drum 🥁
0:50 „Umbrella ella ella eh eh eh“
Amazing player, drum is not bad either!
This snare has me thinking i want one...never owned a gretsch but IT sounds great at all tuning....my first kit had a 42 strand snare...but as a 10 year old...it wasnt what drummers i looked up to were using... 44 yrs later ...i think i might give it another chance!!! again great rudiments...practice has reward!! To all beginners out there....nobody is born being able to do this...dedication a strong timing and basics like single and double stroke rudiments and the all important paradiddle ...always alternate and use dynamics...oh and i find traditional grip works way better for strong snare work!!! of just my opinion!!! Keep on drumming people!!! lrrlrlrrlrllrlrr
Many older/ previous generation drummers never owned Gretsch drums because they were mostly a thing of the 1950s. So other drum companies were more in style during the classic rock and 80s era. Now in the 21st century Gretsch is growing a new following.
Great demo! And I used to think Ben White was good. Awesome job!
Wow.
These are great drums.
This cat is a million fathoms deep with the nasty.
4:02 stank :)
Who's playing? He's incredible.
Tevin Curtis!

@@memphisdrumshop Dear Tevin Curtis ... you are incredible ...
Pierre Tremblay totally agree, great playing !
Again - great playing
came for the drum stayed for the player. This drummer is great!
Kind of comparing this to the Mapex Equinox snare. Both are pretty sweet, but I have a Gretsch Renown kit. Hmmmm.....
I added it to my Renown kit, blows my mind.
Snare sounds almost as good as the drummer ;)
This drum sounds awesome. Is this the Brooklyn Standard snare that Mike Johnston helped develop?
It sure is. Mike rules!

Similar price to the Gretsch Bronze.
I’d go with the bronze..
Satanic black metal? :o
