When I was born I had a surgery called strabismus because my eyes went outward . Usually people with the procedure done need glasses but I was blessed for the first 18 years of my life with nearly perfect eyesight but I’m 19 and I just got my first pair of glasses today!! It took me forever to pick out a frame!

I'm unsure exactly, but I think somewhere around + a quarter with prisms.

So Kathy it has been nearly a year since you got your glasses. I commented to you right after you got your glasses and you were kind enough to reply. Now that you have had your glasses for about 9 months and your eyes are fully adjusted to your glasses even though they only have a +.25 prescription along with the prisms in your lenses do your glasses still seem to be working as good as they were when you first got them or not quite as good? I'm sure that when you got your glasses you were told that you need to come back after about a year to see if there is any change needed in your glasses. As a former optician i'm guessing that the +.25 may or may not require a small increase but your doctor may want to change the amount of prisms in your glasses. That is almost certain to need changing. So just a reminder to be sure and make that appointment to get your eyes checked after the first of the year. Just curious right now do you feel like there has been no change in your eyes since you got your glasses?

So you have had your glasses for about 4 months now. By nw you should be very used to them and they should be very comfortable to you as well. Are they still helping you like they were when you first got them? I am only asking this because in prescribing prisms it is completely different than when they are prescribing glasses for someone that's nearsighted. Prisms is much harder for the optometrists to get perfect on the first try. So it is very common for them to under prescribe you with glasses. So if your eyes are feeling like they are straining a bit even with your glasses chances are they are. After a long day of wearing your glasses do you ever notice any double vision when you take your glasses off?

+Jim Boice I ended up taking them back to get adjusted after having them for three weeks. The focal spot was made within tolorance, but I'm just one of those people in which 'good enough' just wasn't quite right. After getting them adjusted it has helped.
I'm far sighted so having the very low prescription is still working for me. I work a lot on the computer still and they've helped immensely. I don't notice double vision (especially compared to before), but my eyes will still feel a bit out of focused for a minute or so when I switch from wearing them to not. I'm guessing this is mostly due to wearing them for 9 hours then adjusting to not having them on - that different direction of focusing will get ya!
Since I got my prisms, one of my mates got her eyes checked and ended up with almost the same prescription as myself and she can also attest to how much better having them has been!

If you wore your glasses for three weeks and they weren't feeling right you did the right thing by taking them back and having them check out what the problem was. You're right just being in tolerance by their standards doesn't mean anything if your glasses aren't comfortable to your eyes. did they need to make new lenses or were they able to just adjust the frame a bit differently? You are far sighted but hardly enough to make any difference in your vision. If that was your only issue you wouldn't even have glasses now. The main thing for you is that your eyes don't align properly. The prisms in your glasses forces your eyes into the right alignment so they are working together better. Based on what you have said you wear your glasses every day while at work in front of your computer monitor for 9 hours a day. When you take off your glasses your eyes seem to go out of focus because they don't have the prisms to keep them aligned anymore. Have you tried keeping your glasses on for things other than working at your computer? Actually your glasses should benefit you at all times not just on the computer. That +.25 isn't nearly enough to have any effect on your vision for seeing distances wearing your glasses.
Interesting that one of your mates got glasses for the same reason as you with nearly the same prescription even. I totally agree that having prisms in your glasses makes a big difference in how you're able to see. Wearing your glasses won't cause your eyes to get worse if you're wondering.

You're far from being the first one to go for many years without ever getting their eyes examined. Kinda like how many people don't go to the dentist until they get a tooth ache. So most people feel like as long as they seem to be seeing fine why waste time or money? But like you now know there is a lot that goes into an eye exam. They can even determine if you have diabetes as well as a heart problem with a simple eye exam. Oh and that test you seemed to really enjoy with the air being blown into your eyes is to check your eye pressure which is checking for glaucoma. But you were smart once you noticed that something wasn't right with your eyes when you were having problems seeing computer monitors you did the right thing and had your eyes checked. The good news is that your eyes are healthy and you still are seeing at about 20/25 or even 20/20. Most likely your optometrists only wrote you a +.25 prescription because you were getting glasses with prisms anyway and that +.25 should relax your eyes a b it when you're doing long hours on your computer. Like you say it is practically nothing and if you didn't need the prisms you have been prescribed glasses at all. Yeah as soon as you started describing what your eyes were doing I knew then that you needed prism glasses. It's hard to believe that just wearing glasses will pull your eyes into the proper alignment, but they will. So what you got was prism glasses with "base in" do you remember what number you were given? Probably "BO in each eye maybe? Now i'm a retired optician so don't be surprised if after wearing your glasses a few weeks or so that you start to feel like you're having the same problem even with your glasses on. when they prescribe prisms it is completely different than if you were simply nearsighted. That they would fit you with glasses and they would be good for at least a year before you might need a change. But prisms is sort of a trial process and of course they are going to start you off with the smallest amount and slowly go higher as needed. But none of this is going to change your actual eyesight from being near perfect. But it is likely that at some point you're probably going to be wearing glasses full time even though you are able to see quite good without glasses. As your eyes adjust to your glasses for all your close work you do you will probably start to get minor headaches when you have your glasses off and get double vision without your glasses. You do look really cute and even cuter wearing your glasses. I know you have only had your glasses a very short time but the more you wear them the more comfortable they will feel and you will even get to where you don't even notice that you're wearing them. How are you doing with getting used to wearing glasses. At first they feel strange sitting on your nose and getting used to how they feel behind your ears and having your eyes looking through lenses in front of them takes some getting used to. Oh and at first your glasses are always going to seem like they need cleaning. Do you have any questions?

Thank you, Jim! I wasn't told what the number of the prism was in my glasses but I'm guessing that you are correct in that it is a small amount.
I picked larger frames since I knew that they would be easier to look through so actually seeing the base of the frame in my vision hasn't been a problem. The only problem I've been having is when I go from working on a computer for hours straight to driving. That has me in a little bit of a swimming feeling but it has been improving the more I've gotten used to switching between having my glasses on and not. I've also noticed that this occurs worse in broad daylight than at night.
Overall, I am doing fairly good with them and I can tell a huge difference when on computers! I still have some days when towards the end of the night where my eyes/head feel painful or exhausted but I know it is from the adjustment period.

Thank you for your reply. Understandable that your doctor didn't mention what your numbers are for the prism because it wouldn't have meant anything to you anyway. And like I told the +.25 he prescribed you i'm sure was only to help you with eyestrain since you spend so much time on a computer. Just to give you an example I am sure that nearly everyone that does close work all day were to get their eyes examined on a Friday after work would need at least that much if not slightly more prescription. The best time to ever get your eyes examined is first thing in the morning so your eyes are well rested. You seem to be very happy with the difference your glasses have made for you with your computer work which i'm sure is much better than it was before you got your glasses. You've been wearing your glasses for a little over w week and you might still be getting used to wearing glasses but really since your glasses don't really have a prescription in them your eyes shouldn't need much to adjust to them. Your glasses are mainly to aligne your eyes properly, which they do, but it could be that you might need a tiny bit more prism added or it could be caused by eyestrain after too many hours of close work. If you continue to notice this happening you might want to tell your doctor. Doing so much close work for long hours it would seem like increasing your actual prescription from +.25 to maybe +.75 might help your more anyway. B y the way usually with prisms the doctor wants to see you in about 6 months. When were you told to come to be checked? Lastly you said that one problem you're having is after working for hours at your computer wearing your glasses and then driving. But you didn't say if you take your glasses off to drive and get that swimming feeling or if that is with your glasses on? Now you have to remember that for many hours your eyes have only been focusing at a short distance and driving requires your eyes to refocus for a much longer distance. So if you have been taking your glasses off to drive try keeping them on to see how your eyes react. I know you said in your video that you don't need to wear your glasses all the time but to be honest with you everyone I have ever known with prisms wears their glasses full time. If you're glasses keep your eyes aligned properly then why wouldn't you want them aligned all the time? Your still getting used to your glasses anyway so it might be a good idea for the next couple weeks to wear your glasses full time just to see what differences they make with other things besides on the computers. They certainly won't hurt your eyes since they don't really have any actual prescription. Sorry for such a long reply.
