Absolutely! Working with low-income pet owners, I see how much people are willing to do for their animals. Of course there are assholes - rich and poor - but most of the time, with a bit of financial help and education, those people who love their pets are willing to do what they need to to help their animals!
The dog did not look happy being back with original owner. She's knows she is going back to starving again. Some people just should not have pets. She can barley feed her kids. Try closing your legs once in a while.

It was clear they truly loved Maria. They just needed help since they didn't have the means themselves. As Rachael said, they couldn't afford much. Maria is likely one of the few bright spots in their lives. I hope they helped them get her spayed too so they don't have to worry about this again.
I don't agree with you. I don't think they treat Maria right because they wouldn't let the dog be in that situation in 1st place. And just by looking at them I can see they don't treat Maria right.

I get the feeling that Maria’s owner just took her in from the street but didn’t have any real funds to get her vet care. Lots of families in urban, stray-heavy areas do that. It was nice to offer to fix Maria and then return her. You can tell Maria loves her family.
It’s probably also hard to tell with such a young dog when it’s time to neuter, especially since vets tend to have extremely varying opinions.
Very likely that is the case. This is in South Africa & many areas don't have any vet services. The rescue organisation is Sidewalk Specials & they have a channel on here too.
They could have still been responsible they could have took her out on a leash instead of letting her roam the streets Maria and them puppies were found on the street listen to the beginning of that all over again
@@jodyyork3821 they weren’t found on the streets. They were found on that rural property in the forest area. She’s a stray dog that didn’t live in the house and probably never walked on a leash. They’re stray cats in my neighborhood. But I feed them and have a water bowl out. They’re not mine, have petted them but never picked them up. If they need my help I’ll take responsibility for them. But other then that I leave them alone. Why not take them to the shelter?? Because shelters kill strays because they’re not used to living with humans

I hate this "they're not with humans so its kinder to kill them" mentality. I know if I take any of the few strays in our area in to the shelter they'll be killed.
They may not have the easiest life but looking out and seeing the cats laying in the flowers or on the rails enjoying theirselves tells me they are, in those moments, content and happy. Thats good enough for me.
I love that the goal was to get maria back to her owner. She seems to love her family and they love her.
How did you perceive that she cared about that family and they cared about her when they didn't they weren't responsible enough to take her out on a leash while she was in heat so that she didn't become pregnant to begin with she was starving to death when those people happened upon her and her puppies in the street they followed her and her puppies and that's how they found out she had an owner the only aspect of that whole video where you saw Maria with that family is when that woman was sitting there on the chair with her arm around her neck at the end that dog was even terrified of the owner they had to Cokes her out with with goodies and treats and she was terrified of her

That aside, they're in a rural part of South Africa. You have 0 clue what the family is dealing with or how much responsibility they have there. Most there don't have the luxury of just walking their dog on a leash and shooing away strays when it's in heat.
It can be so easy to become overwhelmed with the cost of care when a family dog has a litter of that size. I am so glad the owners accepted the help!

Had they had the dog fixed before she became pregnant they wouldn't have became overwhelmed to begin with. The fact that they didn't keep their dog secure while she was in heat since not getting her fixed means that they are at fault and it's not maria or those pups faults. The fact that they were willing to starve all of them makes it clear that they don't deserve any of them

My little brothers bring me six month ago a pregnant dog, she was stray, we work really hard to keep the seven puppies and their mother well and a live unfortunately we lost one .
two get adopted and four are left with their mother in our house. they are really look the same breed as the ones in the video could you please give me a name of this breed?
The owners are wonderful for acknowledging that they need help and you can really tell how much they care for Maria.
Seeing animals so desperate shows how vulnerable any animal is at our hands. So lucky that the right people helped them 💗
Maria is a good mama. Every parents number one job is to protect their babies. Any outsider, even well-intentioned rescuers, must EARN their trust. Once she saw her puppies were safe, she could finally relax and enjoy life. Bless these good people!

I appreciate how the family clearly stated they needed help when overwhelmed, and got every bit of the help they needed for the dogs. The puppies were almost old enough to be adopted, so the family struggled for that length of time to realized "we can't do 8 dogs AND 4 kids, but we'll make something happen until a better option comes." The surrender was smooth, the doggo was returned spayed, and the family seemed happy for it. Thanks for helping that whole family!

@Fractal Chaos providing for one animal alone can be quite expensive without the right income, not to mention 4 kids. The costs of raising such a huge family would be enormous, but to add puppies on top of that? That’s a lot of hungry mouths to feed, that even someone in a more urban setting would have trouble with. The puppies themselves looked very happy and healthy, and the owners were more than happy to get the help for their dog. If the owners were trash as you say, they would have let the puppies starve and refused help, not to mention Maria would not want to be with them again. She was most likely scared of the other people **because** of the fact she was trying to protect her puppies, not because the owners “let her run around starving”
The fact that you turn around and call the family scum for just trying to make ends meet and take care of the sudden spike in hungry mouths they have to provide for is disgusting.

@Fractal Chaos the nutritional needs of an animal that is breastfeeding will absolutely skyrocket, especially if they're the only source of food for their litter. With the dog being only 1 year of age, and this being her first litter, she would have had to use up a lot of energy to produce milk to feed all her puppies. It's possible the owners were perfectly capable to feed the singular dog, but when it suddenly had puppies, they couldn't keep up with the spike in nutritional needs and needed help. Spaying and neutering programs are different around the world, so it's possible the place the family live in just don't have the right, accessible programs or the educational programs that help pet owners make the right choices
I just had to see this Awesome rescue again. Mama needed help, She needed food but she was still feeding her babies.. Thank You for the love and for saving all of their lives.. God Bless You Fine people ❤️🐾

No I couldn't tell at all; she's kept for guard and let be f by other dogs, who could attack her as well, she didn't want to get out when the owner called her and she looked submissive out of fear.She looked happier when the woman came back.
I'm glad to see all the babies got adopted, but more importantly seeing that Maria got spayed. She was a great mama, but with the family being unable to care for a bunch of puppies too, it's the best thing to do.
I'm glad they didn't demonize the owner. She just couldn't cope with an unexpected change in circumstances. The puppies were doing just fine. The mother was just giving everything to them. Seems that once the puppies were out of the picture the owner is able to take good care of her.

@@mathdantastav2496 I didn't see evidence of that. In many countries, dogs live outdoors when weather is good. There are like ~300 sunny days a year in parts of some countries (except monsoon season) it's not uncomfortable. It looked like one of those countries where yard-living dogs are normal.

She wasn't starved in the first place. The narrator said clearly that her owners were feeding her, but couldn't afford to feed nine puppies, or obviously the extra money to have her spayed. So they did the smart and responsible and kind thing and got help. Would it be better if they'd never taken Maria in? Because the likelihood then is that Maria herself would have died as a puppy.

Not sure I would want to return her to the original owner but, I truly hope she will be loved, fed well and protected from any harm.

She was a pre-teen mom, it must have been hell for her *and* the family that got one puppy and now has a litter. Everyone is fixed, puppies get adopted quick, now the family and Maria get to just be with eachother and live out the rest of her years. Bonus, because help came, those puppies came out beautifully (and ideally got fixed as a condition of adoption, like my cats).

my assumption is she got skinny due to nursing. the video noted the family couldn't afford to feed more than one dog so if they couldn't afford to up her calorie intake then mama dog is going to quickly lose weight nursing that number of pups.

I Wish Maria & Her Babies Well But I Absolutely Hated That She Went Back To Her Previous Home. Maria Should Have Also Been Permanently Removed From That Home & Placed Up For Adoption W/ A New Family Who Could Afford To Take Care Of All Of Her Needs Including Food, Up To Date Inoculations, Basic Dr. Visits As Well As Unexpected Medical Issues.

Samantha Hughes I agree !! 💗🕊️ It's called "heterochromia" when the eyes are 2 different colors. It happens in dogs, cats and even people. Certain breeds of dogs and cats are more prone to it than others. I'm not sure what breed(s) 'Maria' (the mama dog) is, but the dog breeds more prone to heterochromia are Australian Cattle Dogs, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, Dalmatians, Great Danes (harlequin coat pattern), Shetland Sheepdogs, Siberian Huskies and Shih Tzus. 🌼

This is so respectful. You can't just scold owners who can't afford to spay their pets or feed their puppies. Sometimes people just need help without judgement.
Yes, and it seems like she welcomed the team in to make sure that their dog was neutered and that her puppies were fed and given good homes rather than let them become too malnourished. And Maria seems very happy with that family.

@@svenpatersson140 4 years ago I took home a 2 1/2 months old stray puppy. She's seen nothing but love and kisses and she still doesn't trust any person but me & my mom. When we're walking and she hears footsteps behind us she immediately turns around and waits untill the person passes us and only then will she continue to walk. If somebody tries to pet her she jumps away as if they are wielding a chainsaw. I used to walk her with a girl who had a westie and my dog only allowed that girl to pet her a year later.
On the other hand my stray husky who I found 3 months ago wants to be best friends with everyone he sees. Dogs are different, you know. They have different personalities and some of them are skittish for no good reason.

@@siam5579 because a well nourished animal doesn't have ribs showing, especially a nursing mother. The foster had the mother and pups, nourished them back to health, then returned mom back to the family. Who knows how it'll go from there. Hopefully, the team will check in again to keep an eye on the mom.
