Adger was Gordons assistant at one point: “Often such talent abides by rules set by others,” Parks wrote, “but Adger’s individualism sets him apart, simply because he follows his own convictions. His photographs go as far as imagery can go without actually speaking. Cowans has acquired the freedom to master himself.” My kind of man.
Crystal! Excellent presentation. There are three AWESOME Black women photographers who stand out in my mind, Glenda E. Jones, Lauri Lyons of NYC and Dee Dwyer from D.C.! Yeah!
Thanks for watching Howard! Putting together my list for the Black Women photographers, stay tuned for it later this month. your recs are awesome, def gonna check them out.
dope video really love the inclusion of the Malik Sidibe! I recently found out about James Barnor and his work in the Drum magazine so it's really cool to see that this movement of photography was spreading all around Africa at that time!
love this! ty for sharing. james barnor is a legend! i'm curious to learn more about women photographers who were also out there. more to come for sure :)
Hello! I appreciate the fantastic videos and topics you share. It's wonderful to see the emergence of many talented new black photographers. You showcased five of them and brought attention to one of my personal favorites: Gordon Parks. Mr. Parks' impact extends far beyond photography, as you rightly pointed out. Another black photographer I admire is Dawoud Bey. Sending greetings from Brazil and apologizing for any errors I may have made.
Just came across your channel. I love this video. Thanks for introducing some photographers I've never heard of. I love film photography and street photography. Great video! ✌️
Thank you so much! I also love the work of Gordon Parks and Malik Sidibe! Can I also suggest Seymour Keita and the Bronx Documentary Centre! Cheers From Australia 🇦🇺
Great list! 👍🏾You put me onto a few I didn't know about. One of my favourite is Tyler Mitchell which I'm sure you've seen before. I spend hours on his website just staring at the images lol
