RIGHT, Dusty! Same I feel, as I get older (72 now).... Since beginning 1970th JJ Cale has been my favorit ... love his style and the way he has lived. R.I.P. JJ Cale 😊🎸 The cover of Tom Patty is okay.... but nothing is better than the original!
wonderful to wake up to such a great artist musician 1997 may his work live on forever ! thanks for what u shared & for utube to help us relive & share
Yes INDEED!!! There will NEVER be ANOTHER like "The PETTY"!!! The "Hubby and I Got to see Him LIVE back in, 1990 Here in Philly. OMG!, That Voice, Those Lyrics and That"Signature " SOUND that was His and The Heartbreakers ALONE! I'm Now, a 68 Year old BLACK Woman and, I've Always Loved ALL genre's of music 🎶🎵 but, The "String's " 🎸🎸🎻🎻🪕🎸🎸🎸 Just get to me like no other instrument!!! My Petty Along with several other of my guitar heroes was the reason I wanted to play guitar and, the Very first songs I taught myself when I bought my Acoustic-Electric guitar b ack in 2006 were, Free Falling, I Won't Back Down, Into the Great Wide Open, etc. It's funny but, I had No Idea that the man was sick and, Just prior to his passing, I'd been talking to The hubby about wanting to see him in Concert once again So, His Death hit me VERY Hard! I mean, I was absolutely Heartbroken and I Still get " Leaky eyed" just watching and, playing along with His Music Videos!!! I'm telling You, Friends, I Love and, Miss Him, MADLY!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️💝💝💝💝😭😭😭 It feels good to know that Others feel the same so, Many Thanks 🙏🙏🙏 to ALL of You!!! ❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸👍👍👍
There is nothing Tom cannot sing or write I'm so grateful that I grew up with his music. It took my heart and soul and never gave it back I will always be his American Girl.
This is way beyond great. Such sweet playing…especially from Benmont and Mike. Tom really nails that JJ Cale vibe with his vocal. And the video is a thing of beauty. 🎸❤️🔥
This video is absolutely amazing and you know that as hard as it is for his family to release some of this, it means the world to Tom Petty fans, for as long as you hear his music ,he will live on
What an awesome awesome J.J.Cale cover !!! It just rocked my socks off so have to tap my bare feet here now... will never stop missing Tom and will never stop enjoying this incredible music he left for us.. this really made my Friday when saw and heard this here after my work day.. Kippis with a Friday beer and RIP Tom
These shows were the best of the Heartbreakers as a band. All loose, not rushing, and if you love Campbell and Tench like I do, you're in for a treat. Probably the best shows of their careers. It really showed how great of a band they were beyond Tom himself.
I had this on CD in 1999 as it was taped and aired on the early interwebs. Made me expand my CDR trading hobby at that time. I went from collecting tapes (Dead, the Black Crowes, Widespread Panic, etc), to stumbling across high quality stuff that was worthy of putting onto blank CDs. Seems like a lifetime ago. Can't wait for the vinyl.
We all miss Tom so much.....I really wish there was video of these Fillmore shows.....you can tell the band was having a blast! It's weird I just realized I'll be 66 in a few months....the same age Tom was when he passed.....RIP Tom.....
My favorite memory of Tom Petty, I take my elderly dad (CSN was opening, his favorite band), it’s like Aug in the south. 90 w 10000% humidity even at night. As God as my witness, the crowd is melting and Tom Petty comes out in this crush velvet jacket and goes “how about this heat” dude you’re in a heavy jacket 😂 the crowd cracks up.
Tom Petty was a one of a kind musician. His music really touches many lives and still has a huge fan base of all ages.I grew up listening to his music and he is my favorite artist and never put out anything he didn't like. I listen to his music all night while I am at work and his music is great to break up the stuff that I have to do.
One of my big influences and I’ve been a big fan since he started in the ‘70’s. I agree that he truly was a gift from Heaven and brought so much joy to all of us ❤ Music and Memory Eternal TP ❤
It is truly unfortunate that he is no longer with us . Just Look at all he Left countless music . I an my sister saw him in Philly It just happened to be the Last time he would play Live . He was gone shortly there after ... Tom where ever you are I hope you are Happy. Be Blessed and Thank You for all the Joy.
Gainesville Florida native as was Bo Didley. I lived there in Alchua County for a while.Nice area with Bo Didley plaza downtown Park with an amphitheater and farmers market on weekends.
Living in the Bay Area I was able to make a few Fillmore shows and what an intimate setting it was. I clearly remember the Heartbreakers having a blast playing whatever they felt like. ❤
Hard to believe but I'm in a predominantly TP&HBreakers cover band. However our two latest songs are Freebird and Sweet home Alabama. I JUST finished copping some of the lead guitar parts we are filling in with harmonica, opened UA-cam and found this!
This version will be played at my wake. I am having the Heartbreakers logo tattooed on my chest on my way home from Florida. I also stopped at Tom Petty Park in Gainesville! Never forgotten!,
I was in Gainesville in the early 70s when he was learning the ropes before the trip West into stardom. It was a special time and the musicians there at the moment in time I would put up against anytime anywhere. RIP brother! Jam on..
America’s finest rock &roll band. Love JJ Cale’s original and while I respect Lynyrd Skynyrd’s version as well, I really like that The Heartbreakers kept more true to the the original. The Sirius-XM DJ for Tom’s channel always calls TP&THBs the worlds greatest cover band…I can’t disagree🙂
As far as putting words with music and sound production, nobody has done it better than Tom Petty. Dave Grohl is a close second in my opinion, and I'm not even particularly a fan of The Foo Fighters. I am a fan of Tom Petty though, a giant fan at that. The man could make a song! I had tickets to see him on back-to-back nights at Wrigley Field in Chicago, but he didn't live long enough to make the show. Greatly missed, and a tragic loss to the world of music. Thankfully Tom's music will live on through generations to come. I have a 9 yr. old son who is alreadya fan. R.I.H. Tom Petty
My favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song, all though I believe it was written by JJ Cale. so glad to hear it being performed by another favorite musician of mine, Tom Petty. a terrible shame all these folks are gone now. except for one member of Lynyrd Skynyrd last I knew. they all are extremely missed. this was so AWESOME!!!! Tom Petty was an icon among legends. after all he was one of the Traveling Wilbury's.
Thanks to the Good Lord this man lived and existed and wrote and sang songs!!!!!!! He was a gift from Heaven to the music loving world 🌎
Amen, brother! 👍🏴🎸🇺🇸
Yes he did. But this is J.J.Cale.

may Tom live on forever and the musicals melodies he inspired so many we all lost him way too young
A Legend Deeply Missed. Im thankful that I got to see him about 3 months before he passed away. True legends live forever ❤️❤️❤️
Never got to see him but I did watch a three hour Netflix documentary on him about a month before he left us.
Saw him at red rocks it was amazing
Saw him at Mountain Jam in NY a couple months before he passed.

Hey Kim also saw him in June BST Hyde Park 3 months before he passed away - memorable beautiful performance ❤️
Dont neglect Mike Campbell's amazing guitar work..pure genius !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is, by far, the best rendition of Call Me the Breeze out there. And that piano, dayam!
JJ Cale & Tom Petty - two artists that understood the depths of simplicity that is Rock n Roll. Legends forever
So well SAID!!!✌️
Nobody did J.J. covers the way Tom did.....he really understood rock and roll.....
There is nothing Tom cannot sing or write I'm so grateful that I grew up with his music. It took my heart and soul and never gave it back I will always be his American Girl.
❤️
This was written by the late JJ Cale ;)
Soooo true!!!

The greatest American rock and roll band, period. Think about it

I had to scroll down too far to see JJ Cale's name credited, I prefer his version, but can't go wrong with Petty either
Tom doesn't mind playing the guitar while Ronnie sings. A band made for Heaven.
And JJ Cale
I could listen to Tom Petty all day long & night continuously with a smile. Continue to rest at peace cool & beyond talented man. ♥️🙏🤘

Mudcrutch & Skynyrd used to share gigs back in the day & would even join each other on stage from time to time

Love this. This band could play anything!❤️🎸🎶🎙🥁!
That boogie woogie piano solo kicks ass!
