- The Mummy with Boris Karloff, 1932. The box holding the scroll contains a terrible magic curse. But the archeologist is compelled to open it. Later, Karloff (as Im-ho-tep / Ardath Bey) reads magic spells from the scroll to reanimate the soul of his mummified lover. www.markarcana.com
Such a beautifully done scene that is so much more impressive than any CGI version they do now...
I know I mean that Boris Karloff mummy looks more real than anything they could do today.
The last seconds of his (BRILLIANT) laughing really reveal the agony and torment going on in his mind. This scene will never be forgotten!
One of the greatest scenes in the annals of horror....
Nearly ninety years old, but this scene is a masterclass in how to
scare an audience without ultra gratuitous violence and gore.
The way Boris slowly opens his eyes, is to show an actor at
the height of their powers.
This is more than a “horror film”. This is great art.
Something that these Dumb Casuals who say that the Brenden Frasier version is better do not have the Brain Power to comprehend.
@@bradleyrenfroe2776 that can be arguable but it definitely is better than the later universal Kharis or hammer films
One of the most frightening scenes in horror film history. Very, very creepy.
Silent horror films are more terrifying. here we have talkies but they don't add music in that part which makes it more terrifying.
Minimal dialogue and no music make this compelling.
It's absolutely terrifying!!
That maniacal laughter is haunting.. fantastic acting.
That laugh is completely badass. WHY WASN'T THAT MAN THE JOKER IN THE LIVE ACTION SHOW????
Cesar Romero had it covered.
The Joker is supposed to be evil.
Karloff had a career in radio and his own TV program, Col. March of Scotland Yard. They can be found on UA-cam
He also hosted a TV series called ‘Thriller’.
he went for a little walk you should have seen his face AHAHAHAHAHAHAH! That begginning part scared the shit outta me as a kid! i remember i was 9!
That laugh is underrated.
I'm not always one for mummy movies (at least sequelwise), and it's not my favorite monster movie, but I love this nonetheless. It's like Imhotep was a combination of The Monster and Dracula as a lover and a fiend. I always found the originals were much creepier than their remakes. They can use all their power to get you, but they don't need to because their presence alone is enough. In the remakes the Mummy and The Wolfman are too open to their power and make too much noise. Much creepier here.
also i always hated how in the later Kharis films some mortal priest always was the one controlling the mummy like he was some kind of remote controlled killer robot instead of it's own character with own will and mind like imhotep. Kharis mummy films were no different from Frankenstein
If this is 1932 it must have been one of the first films with sound! Pretty cool. :)
They only started making horror films with sound the previous year.
I agree, I've been waiting for someone to post this, thanks.
