  • Mercedes Benz VITO (W639) 2013. There was an SRS/Seatbelt fault showing on the vehicle dashboard. Repeated attempts to clear the fault with a cheap OBD2 reader resulted in the error reappearing when the driver's seatbelt was clipped in. Here I replace the seatbelt clip (part no A 639 860 00 69) and cure the fault.

I recently bought same year and model 113cdi.
The previous owner cut the wires under the seat for some reason and the seatbelt keep dingling like I have not plugged the seatbelt but all the seatbelts are on.
Srs light works perfect when the ignition is turned on but the seatbelt light dosen't appear on the cluster at all.
    Any idea what could be

The previous owner must have cut the wires for a reason - only they will know what that reason was; anyone else can only guess. My guess is that they had an SRS error, cut the wire, and fitted a resistor to fool the SRS system into thinking that all was well (google this, if necessary). I have no idea why your seatbelt light does not work - bulb?

There is no resistor. I've used diagnostic scanner and it says Driver seat belt buckle is faulty. I've installed a new buckle but still same issue

@@pureplay4020 I'm no expert so I cannot help, I'm afraid. If it was me, I'd take it to a main dealer or ask on a vehicle specific forum - BenzWorld?

      Much appreciated your help.
On 5:30 you said when you turn on the ignition the srs light came on but now is gone off.
Do you remember how long it take till the srs light is gone off

@@pureplay4020 It's been 3 years since I did this job. I don't remember precisely the order of these details. What I can say is that the SRS light went out pretty much immediately - more than 1 second but less than 5 minutes. My vague recollection is that, after putting everything back together, I turned on the ignition and the SRS warning was lit but it disappeared within a few seconds. I might have switched the ignition off and back on again - I really don't remember. It was all very quick, and before I had a chance to film it.

My seatbelt warning light comes on even though I have the seatbelt on, I'm guessing this is what I need to replace also

Is the SRS light on as well? If so, it may well be the seatbelt clip. It seems to be a common problem.
Try getting yourself a cheap OBD2 reader. Use it to CLEAR FAULTS (even if none are shown). If the error is cleared but reappears when you plug in your seatbelt, that is almost certainly the problem.

One like this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165869655345 and the Torque app on the phone.

How did you know which seat belt to replace?

Haha, good question! I'm not sure I remember but I think the first signs of the problem were associated with using the driver's seatbelt. Apart from that, it is the belt that is used the most, by far, so would be the most likely to fail.

Yes I had the same question because the the message I was getting on the dashboard didn't stay on as a fault and one day I didn't see it at all and the next I was on 5 times.
I decided to change the driver's side coz it's used 10x more than the other side. I need to drive the vehicle for days perhaps for couple of weeks to see if I get the message again I hope not ;). Thank you for video.

@@petrturcovsky7035 That sounds very much like the fault I had. It was intermittent at first but soon became permanent.
