      Those injuries where in 2018 and 2020. He has played like a beast since going to Washington and being converted to a pocket passer. The difference is they already know Penix has recovered and played. And he was drafted because if Kirk is as good in the regular season as many believe, they won't be seeing another chance to draft a top tier QB without giving up the farm to trade up.

      So what, 26 is still young. QBs are playing late into their 30s. Pennix will give 10+ years so its a win. While other teams are going to be scrambling for QBs like the Broncos and Riders and SAints did this year. Ours in secure in our building. Dan Patrick keeps saying 3 years when its not going to be 3 years. ITs going ot be 2 years, thats when Cousins guaranteed money is super low.

    this whole thing just brings back nightmares of me watching the Bears draft Mitch Trubisky. Everything from the audience's shock, the announcers surprised reaction, the overall post draft media confusion, the rumors of other teams coming up to pick the qb, the lack of communication to key personnel about the selection (in Chicago's case it was the HC that wasn't informed until the day of the draft), the lack of due diligence in the pre draft process (Chicago famously did not pursue meeting with Deshaun Watson once they fell in love with Mitch) and overpaying for a seasoned qb the same year they drafted one (Mike Glennon). At the head of this long trail there is one critical similarity, the former Bears GM and current Falcons Dir. of Player Personnel, Ryan "f your couch and dreams" Pace. For Falcons fans and Michael Penix sake, I sure hope things turn out better than it did for us in Chicago.

      Are you kidding me? Penix will be 27 or 28 when he starts, the average quarterback now is washed at 32-35. This means you get exactly 2-4 years if it’s the under, if we are looking at overs maybe 8 years. Unless he’s an all time great and I don’t see that talent.
      If you drafted a 21 year old you extend this by another six years, which is about the average of a players career, this means you are losing out on one whole players career😂😂

    There is NO GUARANTEE that ANY of these players pan out especially in the 1st round and there is NO GUARANTEE that if you actually hit on these guys, you buy yourself a Superbowl. Examples: Tyree Wilson, Travon Walker, Jadeveon Clowney, Chase Young, Mario Williams, Chris Long on the OTHER SIDE Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, JJ Watt, Aiden Hutchinson.....and the list goes on. Kirk might be good for a year or 2...or me might blow out his ankle again (SEE NEW YORK JETS). Also...does anyone remember the Chiefs drafted Mahomes at 10 WITH the NFL's leader in QB Rating in the fold in Alex Smith. They were MOCKED. Everyone has amnesia about that, but that worked out well. Not saying Penix is Mahomes. Same with Green Bay. Everyone MOCKED the Packers when they drafted Love. They werent 1 CHANCE 1st round player away from a Superbowl. They do however don’t have to deal with QB hell like the Panthers, Seahawks, Broncos, Saints, Raiders, Jets, Commanders....and the list goes on. They can actually compete, and build around a guy in Love. When you have a chance to secure the QB room for 10 years, and you feel good about it. Do it. This IS a QB driven league, and when a team tries to secure it's QB room for 10 years, people lose there minds.

      @wh5027 If you're Arthur Blank why the f do you care about pissing off Kirk Cousins, the 1-3 playoff record, 0 superbowl Kirk Cousins? Do you think the Hunts cared about pissing off Alex Smith when they drafted Mahomes, or Mark Murphy was worried about pissing off Brett Favre when he drafted Rodgers, or pissing off Rodgers, when he drafted Love. Or Art Modell cared about pissing off Joe Flacco when the 32nd best player in the draft, who's a running back, would replace Joe Flacco. • @WSPBane
      @WSPBane 22 дні тому +4

      Either do I. The truth is a lot of QBs get hurt, Cousins is getting older and they dont want a repeat of what happened with Matty Ice. Also if they are good as expected with Cousins they wont have a shot to draft a QB high till they stink again. Letting Penix sit for 2 years or if he blows them away they can always trade Cousins next year to some team desperate for a QB. They have a lot of options. I feel like because no one in the media projected this they are over blowing it.

If you are in 'win now' mode then taking a talented player that can make an impact immediately or trading down in the attempt to get more than one of those types of players in the right move. For everyone that wants to say its the Packers method of getting good quarterbacks one after the other...what is the measuring stick for that being a success? They had the best QB in the football for 2 seasons and didn't add enough pieces around him to win another Super Bowl.

    There is always an inherent danger in passing on the best player on the board because that player then goes to other teams who you will face. This is a bigger factor for QBs and a bigger factor the higher up the draft board you go. Penix has a very high ceiling. He could be the next Stroud. When you pass on that not only do you not benefit but another team will. In this situation the split between how much you will lose out on and how much the Vikings could benefit was sufficiently large that ATL had to take Penix. They really had no choice.

    How do these analysts get their jobs? Look at all of the young receivers Aaron Rodgers had, particularly his last season. These young receivers were the key to the Packers success, especially late last year. They did get receivers. They got some very good receivers. They also knew, even before they drafted Jordan love, but the relationship was going sour. There’s no guarantee that if they drafted a wide receiver in the first round, instead of getting Jordan love, they would’ve gotten over the hump to win the Super Bowl. I’ll say right now, they look like they’re going to be relevant and in the discussion for the next several years.

    The Falcons are blowing the benefit of having a franchise QB under a rookie contract by signing Cousins. They knew months ago that they had pick 8. They knew months ago they would have a shot at at least 2 or 3 of the young QB's coming in the draft. Some of you defending what the Falcons did are amusing. This isn't Fantasy Football. It's like the poster who stated Atlanta bet the over & the under we can't lose. I have no issue with the pick. It's the signing of Kirk Cousins that makes no sense. There is a salary cap you know? Atlanta could have spent the money spent on Cousins to build a better roster... The Jordan Love comparison does not compute either. Love was taken with the 26th Pick in the First Rd. Penix was taken with the 8th pick. You draft a QB with the 8th Pick he needs to start right now. What if Atlanta is right and Penix is the next CJ Stroud hey great. Except you have a disgruntled QB (why am I here) on your bench eating up your salary cap for the next 2 years. Plus no one is going to trade for Cousins because of the contract. Houston with CJ Stroud is going hard knowing they have Stroud on that rookie contract. Atlanta is wasting Penix on his rookie deal. The Fantasy Football draft comparison is an example... Say you take Josh Allen late in the 1st Rd and then in the 3rd RD you took Lamar Jackson. HEY look at me I have solid Fantasy Football QB's but in the meantime you missed out on a premium player at one of those positions. Atlanta missed out spending the money on Cousins instead of spending it to improve the roster. After the pick Blank walking around looking bewildered??? You mean Blank the owner didn't know the Falcon's were making this move. IT's BUSINESS MISMANAGEMENT.
