1959 Cadillac Sedan: Video #35 -- Steering leak, idling high and contemplating the future

  • So here's an odd video: I'm happy because a couple of nagging issues with the Caddy, a steering fluid leak and a low idle, have finally been resolved. The car is purring like a happy kitten and ready for some late summer/fall cruising.
But... as I approach nine years of ownership of this car, the truth is my joy in owning it has been outweighed by the seemingly never-ending problems and fixes I encounter. As soon as one thing's done and I'm leaking forward to some clear sailing/cruising, something else crops up. So asking the unaskable question: is it time to think about letting the Cadillac go?

I have a 1985 vanagon has been an 8 year project. Thousands of dollars, hundred's of hours, and 4 engines all to go 600 miles and still not done. Refrigerator not installed, sunrooof skylight broken, cabinets lose, heat seems to be :on" even with levers closed, axle noise, and pulsing brakes and so many distractions if's hard to get anything done ! -- having said this, when the time is right you will know it. I say sleep on it - maybe all winter and then decide. I hope to have one someday. I kinda of like the 6 windows, not the flat top or the coupe. I went to the cadillac grand nationals this past June and a 59 2D has great lines. IDK, I have a driveway full of dreams, you at least are making progress.

Chris. Been following you for a few years as I also have a 59 and a few other classics. Almost shed a tear on this post. 😢. What ever you do, no regrets. Hope you make the right decision for you.

G'day chris I can understand your frustration with the caddy it would be a shame if u moved it on ive loved these cars since I first saw one at a carshow as a 17 yr old and that kicked off my love affair with american cars ...my wedding cars were 2 59 caddys ..personally I'd leave the patina look and swap out the old 390 for an ls or late caddy mtr and overdrive auto spend the money on turn key reliability? I've loved your vids from the very first and will continue to watch them ...its a tough decision whichever way u go but I hope u keep it 👍
