DON'T IGNORE A-TRAC. It's identified as a traction aid, but it's actually a REALLY good ABS system. It literally competes with any 4wd on technical tracks
Yeah A-TRAC has nothing to do with “off road experience.” lol no amount of off road experience can get power from one wheel to another when one is up in the air.

Jeep has the same thing. They call their BLD for brake-lock-diff. I think every auto manufacturer integrates the ABS into the traction control now tbh

You can get panel filter air boxes that sit off to the side of the engine, they flow better even with genuine filter elements and don't have the heat soak issue of the one on the engine, FJ's over here in Australia all came with the one off to the side, and TRD make a really good version too.

Plastic and full sun don't mix too well, They get faded and brittle after some good time in the sun. Also saves you from having to padlock the mount or risk them getting stolen while you're at the shops hahaha.
@@tougetime8509 who tf needs maxtrax at the shops haha. And you're clearly missing the point of the OP which was keeping them mixed with camera gear, the value of whats in that boot is probably worth the same as a car, I'd prefer to keep the dirt on the outside if it were me.
@@samgambling7312 Do maxtrax just magically appear on your vehicle once you get to the offroad location? I was under the impression you had to cart them around with you like every other piece of recovery gear, That must be why the knock off ones I have were so cheap! :P
OP asked why, I gave him a reason, May not be THE reason but it is A reason why someone might do such. See tons of 4wds getting around with them mounted on the outside of the car, Usually completely cooked from being left in the sun non stop and most likely not even worth having on there at that point. As far as the dirt is concerned unless you're using them in mud a quick tap and 99% of the dirt will just fall off and seeing where/what he is usually photographing I dare say the last 1% is pretty negligible.

I just wish the blind spots weren't so terrible. A spotter is almost mandatory getting through a grocery store parking lot.

A-Trac has nothing to do with how experienced you are. It uses the brakes to simulate a diff locker in the front, so you can basically have all 3 diffs locked to get out of anything.
The tires rock and FJ always rocks. Most reliable fun to own and drive SUV on or off road.
They are fun but Idk if mine is funner than my 80 series 🤔

When I took my 06 4Runner out to pismo I sent it a little to hard on a jump and my motor Mount actually failed and my motor was tilted to one side lol. Dmz fab welded and gusseted it up real nice!!

If I were you, I'd use at least the trans cooler. They're useful even in manual transmission vehicles when off-roading
And yet that Toyota air intake box is still louder than the supercharger whine haha this thing is rad, love FJs!!

65 whp is actually a good gain. Probably about 50-60 torque as well. A smaller pulley is also a possibility for more power later on

Them fj are like 90% auto and 10% manual.
Check your coolant level often. The silicone hoses will displace water though them. You will see the dust sticking to the hoses in the shape of the water droplets.

Should look into a full exhaust system. The Y-pipe and exhaust manifold are highly restrictive. URD makes a system for supercharged 4L. Their equal length headers make 22hp and 34ft lbs of torque at the wheels. I forget what the numbers were on the Y-pipe but they're pretty good also.

#Goosegear storage systems or pelican cases are your friends. You can install aircraft tie down strips if you do not get a storage system to tie your pelicans down. If you hit a woop your valuable gear will be everywhere. Just my two cents again🤣😂😅🙌🏾. Thanks for the advice about the GM throughout bearing! Yo! My '11 Tacoma uses the same 6 spd and the throw out bearing's been chirpin since always. What GM bearing did you replace it with?

Larry, great video. I jut got my FJ and am in research mode. I know this is a couple years old now, but can you tell me how the SC and truck have held up since then? Also, what wheels are you running? I like that plain jane look.
Nice Larry. I need over $5k for a Magnussen SC kit. Doesn't come with that sweet little tuner add on though.
Expensive part.
Silicone hoses are better, more heat resistant, and most importantly will outlast previous rubber variants for the simple fact that silicone doesn't decompose as quickly as rubber.
Hey, definitely change the oil more often from here on out. Also, be more anal about checking fluids because more power = more stress on your power and drivetrain.

You need to upgrade your interior lights to LED. It takes 3 minutes and it is the best thing I have done to my FJ.
What GM part number did you use to change the throw bearing?

Would it be bad to install this on a 4.0 with 190k miles? I really wouldnt mind putting a nee engine in my 4runner but wouldnt wanna murder the original one too premature.

Question. How do you keep enough fuel in that fj? They don't get very good mileage and the fuel tank is so small. That is literally the only thing that keeps me from buying one. Other than that they are amazing vehicles.
Fj's actually get pretty decent fuel milage

Up a 7 % grade while accelerating SERIOUSLY enjoyed it in process of getting an fj for bucket list trip out west

You should remember to get it in your 1 to 1 ratio when going up a big hill. Like, in my old 240Z I went up the Camarillo grade at 130 in fifth with a fresh Nissan 5 speed. The front bearing exploded. NO overdrive when going up a grade. I would have to look what trans is in yours but keep safe and don't put in overdrive under heavy load 4th?...
How is the engine holding up with the supercharger?
Next mod will probably have to be a larger dual puck clutch lol

Yeah, that's not a universal thing. Definitely an FJ thing.
100 series landcruiser and 200 series are full-time 4x4
