    It is difficult to find the best build for battleships in the new commander system. There are too many 4pt skills that are required to make the ships work, so you have to give up something. I haven't quite worked out how to run a secondary build at high tier yet, however I believe I've figured out the standard battleship build that is good on everything. Surprising no one it involves dead eye.

      It's for subs so they have better functionality. Everything else is just WG being WG.

      At least there is more diversity in the Tier 1, 2 and 3 skills. Cruisers get more options, and so do destroyers. I wish CV's get more skills to make CV vs CV games relevant though. (Like removing spotting from fighters, but giving them unlimited charges as long as they're not shot down. Also give CVs spotter planes that are really meant for spotting)

    I completely agree with the sentiment that Deadeye was the straw that broke the camel's back. Meta has definitely been trending this way for a while, but Deadeye only encourages players to do it more, and I genuinely hate that Wargaming is catering to that meta. This skill rework absolutely had the potential to shift the meta, but good lord did WG drop the ball on that potential.

      They don't seem to understand the concept of 'reward the play that you want to see'...
      Like the XP system - heavily damage biased...
      The spotting system, spreads the assisted damage among all who can see the target, not the one risking themselves (DD)
      CVs - who COULD possibly be balanced by at least eliminating their spotting power to begin with (thus eliminating most of the cross-fire chances)...
      Conq/Thunderer/most RN BBs - who at the very least need their fire chance halved

      Its not only deadeye, cruisers have their version of stupid perks that help sitting far back and give dmg (not to talk about overall stronger perks), CV's get more absurd more dmg forcing long range fights, and dd's get insane torp/gun buffs also. Basicly every tree forces you to stay on range

    Deadeye goes great with Concealment Expert on all battleships; it's also a floor cleaner and a dessert topping.

    Deadeye would be so much better if it worked only when there are ships INSIDE your concealment range.

      That's logical only problem is you are back to the island humper farm meta oh look BBs pushing in let's farm them also you would almost be in secondary range.

      @@rrm2305 Island humper meta can be fixed by making islands significantly higher than they currently are. Put more islands and put higher islands so pushing BBs will be able to take cover behind islands. Smart island hopping push is better than just sniping

    Appreciate the insights and showing us builds with 19 pointers, not just all 21s. Took days off after the update, I'm really struggling with cruisers now. Tried damage build, didn't feel like it was worth the trade off.

    Tried a secondary GK run earlier today, ran 176K DMG and was a fun game I have to say.

      @@hafizhalghifari2881 Is there a way to bring up old battles? Think it was around 50k secondary and 30k fires if I'm not mistaken. But 213 secondary hits and 36 main gun hits. Unfortunately only saved main game exit page i.imgur.com/76gB5ss.png

      @@Eazfb If you're playing the game on Steam then there's a folder for replays. It only holds something like 30 though. Though with the new update it probably won't load those older replays. If you're playing the game with the Wargaming client then I have no idea.

    I take incoming fire alert on most BB's and Cruisers because of Slava, Thunderer, Shikishima and to an extent, Yamato. These ships with deadeye (and without) make any pushing very difficult because there will almost always be someone who can catch your broadside on the other side of the map (25+km) and there are no guarantees that someone won't be watching you pushing into a cap to chase off a DD or similar where the immediate threats constrain ship movement to give broadside to ships I might have otherwise ignored and so I find that especially with the new skill rework, Incoming Fire Alert is almost mandatory on ships with average concealment, medium-close optimal combat range and/or slow rudder shift/turning radius

      Because you watch too many secondary build youtube games and you must rush in and die even before the rework. That's why I call it the 7-minute build because that's how long they usually last in the game "OH look most of the enemy team are over there must get into secondary range so I can wreck them all" I died because my team didn't support me. It complements the 5 minute DD who speed boosts straight into the cap at the start of the battle lets everyone know where they are gets radared or spotted by CV gets deleted and rushes off to the forums to tell everyone how OP Radar and CVs are.

      This deadeye skill is a limp dick attempt to stop the stupid HE fire spam meta they created. It used to be that a battleship could take a beating and still come after you. They broke that with all the gimmick ships and now have broken it even worse with this boring sniper crap.

    Thank you for mentioning Roma. I got her a month ago and was tearing my hair out over her main guns. Now with Dead Eye, she’s my second favorite ship to play after Georgia. I look forward to playing her. If WG does nerf Dead Eye I hope they don’t forget to buff Roma.

    I think the ship I have the most success with brawling now is Pommern, and not because it's a great ship, but because at least on the Asia server, you get a lot of T9 only games, which means no CV spotting you, and no thunderer/conq/smolensk deleting you

    So I may be crazy, but so far on secondary battleships I've had a decent amount of success running CQC without improved aiming. So far the new dispersion is so bad that the extra amount of accuracy against destroyers doesn't even feel relevant. I would really suggest giving it a try if you haven't yet. I have a hard time rationalizing running both Deadeye and CQC though, so I'm not really sure what my plan is with the spare four points yet other than maybe the ability to run both Fire Prevention and Repair Expert at the same damn time.
    Edit after making it to the end video discussion: I think the real issue that causes the passive play style is that we're talking about playing with randoms. You can't guarantee that your team will capitalize on the pressure that you put on the map as a pushing secondary BB. I find that many times I'll push into a power position and will have several enemy ships spamming shots my way, but my team in the same area will continue to hover back while taking no fire instead of pushing to a new angle while the enemy fleet tries to sink me. I have no way to confirm that this is the case, but I would expect that the value of non-passive BBs would be far more consistent when paired with a full organized team that you can effectively communicate with and you can guarantee that they will make a play in exchange for your damage soak. As such, it's much easier to avoid being salty by never putting yourself in a position where you exchange your life for map control that your team doesn't take.

    What's bloody hilarious is that cruisers also got the secondary range buff. I have 8 km base secondary range on my Prinz Eugen for no other reason.

    They will never get a balance to appease everyone. The mechanics of the new commander build is awesome because you see the results before mastering them. It allows you to use the same commander in multiple different ships. Interface adding and moving commanders is so much better. The only complaint that it gives even more of a bonus to premium ships. Skills themselves is what people are complaining about.

    It says that "no visible hostile ships within the ship's standard detectability radius"
    I think it means that when you fire, it does not matter, you still have deadeye while your concealment bloom out. You also have deadeye while you are not shooting but there is a DD spotting you

    Giulio Cesare with Deadeye is gonna be. Super low concealment and a massive dispersion buff. Those shells gonna be so on point. Looking forward to getting back into the italian BB's with the deadeye change to help their dispersion.
    Considering it can get down to cruiser levels of concealment it's gonna be fun.
    The Italian BB line is meant to be a close in line with low range and concealment wth SAP. So interested to see how deadeye will effect them in the meta as might completely make them redundant before they even come out.
    I would have liked to see the Italians be a super close in BB line, SAP, good secondaries and BB smoke that works. So you'd have, Italians > French & Germans > USA / UK / Japan as the lineup of close in, mid range, long range.
    If they have line splits then have one fall into another close range or mid range unit.
    We need to make it so that BB's each have distinct features that allow them to okay a certain role in the team and have the Matchmaker allocate close in BB's if they have long range cruisers and vice versa.
    I think we need to really start seeing brawling cruisers and some secondary cruisers to make it more flexible.
    Not sure how to fix DD"s as CV's are just fucking them over. Outside of the italian DD in the research tree which is just a YOLO machine and good fun.

    I leveled the whole German BB line of battleships and yes it is pretty rare to just force a push cause everyone will target your ship. Within minutes you will be at the point of no return and your ships hp pool will be nothing. I guess I had rare matches where I could do what I wanted at times with secondaries but that was so rare that playing with a secondary build or playing the German battleships in general was just a bad experience with dispersion being literally crap on the battleships. The best thing about them though is how fast the shells dropped making fast ships easier to land hits on. So the German bb line isn't all bad and you get used to the crap dispersion.

    I have a solution for making Deadeye actually tactically interesting to use, and not just a brainless OP skill. Give it a reload time penalty, which is 0% if there is a visible enemy ship within or at the very edge of your base detectability range. If there is no ship within base detectability range, you get the dispersion buff, but the reload penalty ramps up linearly depending on how far the closest visible enemy is. Make it for example +30% reload time at max range.
    Example: Your base detection is 13 km, and your firing range is 23 km, so there is a 10 km buffer. The closest enemy ship is 18 km away, which is right in the middle of the buffer, and thus you get a reload time penalty of 15%.
    This would make Deadeye a skill that requires a precise positioning to get the full use of, and BB's would be incentivized to play at mid range instead of any range that is not close. Picking the range mod instead of reload mod sounds like something some people would want to do, but in that case the reload would still practically always be worse than with reload mod. Another thing some people might do is spec completely out of concealment to be able to sit further back, but then of course their Deadeye would be easier to break, and they would have really hard time disengaging.

      As for how to nerf HE, simply adding a saturation mechanic to fires would be one option. If one part of the ship gets saturated, it would also take only half the fire damage, just like it takes half damage from normal pens. I don't know if this would be enough, but it certainly would help.

    One thing I have noticed since the update: DD engines break all the time now. Doesn't matter about the modules and skills. My engines are getting broke like it's the whole point of the game now.

    Excellent take on the subject.
    Dead-eye is not the real problem. It's the solution to a longer running problem, only intensified by the new commander skill rework :(
    It's sad, as a BB main, I lost my drive to play.
    I loved this game so much, but now... big oof.

    My opinion on how to adjust the meta: 1. Apply damage saturation to fires(but not to flooding).
    2. Fire chance decreases for all opponents after each fire on a ship by 2 or 3 percent.
    This situation is why I stay my ass at T6 for the most part. I can brawl to my heart's content there.

    I have played since CBT and have way over 100 M credits and also a shit-ton of 10-14 point commanders in my reserve so I actually used the credits option of dismissing them and now I have Yamamoto, Kuznetzov, Cunningham and Jerzy all up to 21 points and since I can only enjoy playing 10-12 ships out of my 150 in port since "CV rework" I can now enjoy having my legendarys triggering on almost all of them.

    I honestly have not noticed any measurable improvement in damage in games where I used dead eye over a standard tank build. I think I have re speced my 21 point yamato 8 or 9 times since the patch. I think it depends where your comfortable on the map and Iv always liked being 17-20 km away more then 25 km. I think in t8 t9 and t10 you go with passive secondaries on a secondary ship so no manual or close quarter crap just the 3 point range increase. Only ship I am running manual secondaries on is gneisenau that gets 9,5 km secondaries the new german buff plus the manual and of course over matches 32 mm without ifhe. My first game in that with a 19 point commander after the rework put me 74th on the NA leader board for most damage ever in that ship with 221k in a t7 bb.

    they can fix dead eye by removing one word from the description. the word is no. "dead eye: increases the fire accuracy of the main battery if there are visible ships within the ships standard detectability range" this will cause the meta to battleships being at an advantage to those that hang at the back

    Easiest way to balance Dead Eye. Give it a 15% penalty to main battery Reload. Thunderer's reload becomes 30secs, the guns were accurate as it was. The already accurate Yamato, doesn't choose this. It has to be an actual choice. Do you choose accuracy, or do you choose more DPM. At the moment it's a no brainer, you have to choose it.

    PSA : Never run Basics of Survivability. It's not worth the 3 points. No one talks about this because nobodu bothers to do the math.
    You get incredibly diminished returns from it when you run the Fire flag and the damage control module.
    You can consider it if you're running steering gears in your 4th slot but otherwise dont.
    (When you have both fire reductions and you get Basics of Survivability, you save 1.8% hp per fire. It's not worth the points especially considering those 1.8% hp you can heal at a rate of 100%)

    Changing captains without retraining to premium ships and back to their trained ship isn’t something new. That also worked before this patch. Only thing that changed is that you can now change to a different ship class and can make a separate captain build for this class.

    The big focus on bb’s is one thing, but cruisers and dd’s need to play their role now. BB’s always trying to push to make a game play was frustrating every match. You can scream I need intel but the dd and cruisers not sticking with the bb’s is their fault. There needs to be a reward for supporting other ship types. Like support xp.

      Exactly BBs both teams pushing in get farmed by HE spammers and DDs because they are off damage farming. When a game is totally damage and kill focused that's what happens. They need to rebalance the rewards for capping and spotting damage.Also tanking should be a higher reward give less XP for damage against targets that are not in your line of sight there are many things they could do but decreasing rewards for damage farmers would be a start

    While you're correct saying that backline sniping didn't just magically appeared this patch I think calling deadeye the straw that broke the Camel's back is just misleading or at best too careful. It's coalesced what was previously something that was a trend for all the reasons you mentioned (pushing is hard, meta is OP HE) into a concrete plan since now deadeye is something that essentially creates coordination in your team. Suddenly all of your battleships act and move like your, and they all focus on the ship that's getting closer and might break their Deadeye. I still think deadeye would be a rotten skill for the game even if AP was the only type of ammo.

    Maybe you could have a buff where, the closer you are to ships, the more damage you do to them. Or maybe the closer you get to teh centre line of the map you could get a hit buff, that way enemies a the back wouldn't get that buff if they hit you

    Honestly ignoring secondaries and using the Deadeye build with Pommern actually makes it a tanky useful midrange ship. Actually makes the Pommern's guns usable with Aiming Systems plus Deadeye.

    I played with the Roma today. This BB not only has an accuracy problem but also the over pen problem which might be even worse. I could not have a single full pen on a cruiser for the entire game. Only 1200 HP damage per shell. Few shells with several thousand HP damage. You could mitigate inaccuracy by closing distances. You cannot mitigate the over pens. When RNG is against you, your damage can be reduced to nothing with this ship.

    If they would change the way superstructure saturation works it would go a long ways to combating the HE spam meta. Make hits to the superstructure stop causing damage (modules can still be damaged or destroyed though) once it gets completely saturated, and make the fire chance non-existant or much much lower for saturated sections of a ship. Hit points should represent hull integrity, and the superstructure is, by definition, not the hull.
    Personally, I'd like to see more damageable or destroyable modules introduced, including fire control and range finding. Then make HE specialized for damaging or destroying those things, but inefficient for sinking battleships and most cruisers. I want a game where the combat effectiveness of ships can be degraded - I mean, it can now with AA and secondaries being destroyed and sometimes main turrets, too, but I'd like to see potential debuffs to dispersion or spotting or reload - but they are perhaps tankier at staying afloat.

    Make dead eye improve your accuracy as you lose HP (like adrenaline rush). Decrease HE fire probability the further away the target is (completely weird but hey, CV can print planes, and radar cross islands). How about that @Potato Quality ? =)

    I'm sticking with my secondary build on Bismarck for one thing and one thing only: Ranked. Bronze ranked is gonna hopefully remain tier 8 and tier 8 only where I won't have to deal with tier 10 he spam and cv spam and can push in and have fun and win.

    If i were WG i would make the Dead Eye skill just a hard 5% dispersion buff at all ranges, removing the whole concealment part. That would nerf the accuracy while keeping it a viable 4 point captain skill and most of all it would remove the need for the sitting behind.

    This massively affects cruisers players too, without that bb to tank damage, cruisers become the main focus and we cant tank damage, most of us have to play somewhat conservative to conserve our HP for the late game. But neither do we have the range to sit on the A line to do damage :/

    I used to be really reliant on priority target. Now that I see what is happening with point distribution, I'm trying to get away from it. In that case, incoming fire alert is getting me used to looking at all the ships around me to see who is shooting me and adjust accordingly. Once I get used to that, I can drop them both and use those skill points elsewhere, which can make my shops more viable.

      @@alcel24 it's more of trying to get myself to look around more compared to relying the skill to tell me who's aiming at me, and learning some map awareness. Once I'm confident in that, I'll lose both skills and go with more practical skills.

    I'd say make deadeye works in reverse, make SI 3 points again and buff FP and see how it goes from there. If BBs get more consistent accuracy in closer ranges it might give an incentive to push in, for me it does anyway.

    WG buffed German BB secondary accuracy. It's still not as good as it was before the change, but combined with ISBA, you can reach -50% in comparison to pre-10.0. It's still not as good as what MFSA's -65%, but it's far from being as bad as people let it to be., especially when you consider that you shoot at longer range and every ship, even if not manually selected.

    Funny how quickly this paradigm could change. If they would just nerf dead eye or replace it with a skill to incentivize BBs pushing, all of a sudden instead of DE and Concealment being a mandatory pair, a secondary build could take manual secs plus either fire prevention or close quarters (or potential new tanky/push/cap skill).

    As for how to fix the game, make superstructures fully saturate like french dds do. I should not be able to be farmed for 90k pen damage from a smolensk in gk, this also makes ifhe an actual choice for light cruisers rather than just never take it and depend on fires instead, because currently, if you don't take ifhe, you get fires and pens, there's no tradeoff when i can do consistent he salvos in a nevsky and have 15% fire chance. Then invert deadeye, it gives a bonus to dispersion if something is detected in your conceal, make bbs yeet conceal out the window to get the bonus easier, or they just play closer. Then bbs should have a better fire resistance coefficient than same tier cruisers/dds, just like a 1 or 2 tier fire resistance difference so bbs don't just melt when a cruiser looks at it. ( oh and something that doesn't necesarily need to change, but t10 bb ruddershift. No fully upgraded bb should have worse than 18 second rudder shift, at all)

    solution is to make a new skill bralwer take -40 percent damage and plus 40 percent reload when you are within 3 or more enemys detection range plus 10 percent damage reduction for every enemy above 3 maximum 70 percent

    What if HE did less damage, and fires did no damage.
    Here's the catch: when on fire you receive increased damage from shells, and your main battery accuracy is increased. This would incentivize focus fire and cruisers being used in team play roles (get within deadeye range to lower bb dispersion, and then set them on fire to make them even less accurate and more vulnerable)

    Yamato lego mod + deadeye. SCARY. But I have a feeling they will probably Nerf it significantly and then we will be stuck having to spend tons of commander XP or doubloons to respec it.

      They say that they will not nerf commander skill but ships. Bb that have good dispersion in the past now is much better than bb that have shit dispersion with dead eye.

    Interesting thought what if deadeye and top-grade gunner were switched around you may have to tweak or delete close quarters expert as its almost the same thing BBs would be forced to give up concealment but get a reload buff CA would have to play at max range and run concealment which means they could shoot and go dark if they made it a 19-second + reload time detection Penalty for CA after firing so longer the reload time the longer your detected

    I agree ...almost completely. Some ships cannot benefit from Deadeye for practical reasons : Lets take GK - Concealment is too horrible and range on main guns is too low to actually benefit from Deadeye. Window for Deadeye is just too goddamn low. Same goes for ships like Strasbourg, Dunkek - too bad concealment , too low range.
    Edit : So please stop saying it is good for every BB - there is good amount of ships that will have very hard time to benefit from this skill.
    Examples : GK, Dunkek, Strasbourg, Pommern, FDG, Lyon etc.

    Hi! A few things come to mind after thinking about what you said about switching commanders among premium ships.
    I was going through and checking all of my commanders, and redistributing their skills without assigning them on this ships I dont play a lot, so I didn't get locked in to a default remap I didn't want. In doing so I accidentally clicked on the "all skills" button, and realized that some of my commanders had skills mapped weird for ships they weren't on. So I had to move some of my commanders to ships of another type just to reset their skills, so when we get locked in to paying for redistribute I wouldn't have to do that. Tedious but a good idea.
    I know that you can train commanders up on your premium ships, then put them back on their regular ships. When would this be useful?
    For instance, I'm just now getting all my techtree ships up to tier V, should I move the commanders to a premium, or keep them on the ship they're on, so they and the ship get xp? When would I want to do something different?
    Also, I realized I don't have any premium Russian or British ships. Should I get a low priced one to train up commanders on? I thought the Murmansk might be a good choice for this, a decent ship that can be bought very cheap but I can train up Russian commanders on. If this is a good idea maybe a video on good premiums in the different nations would be helpful.
    So technical. Sometimes I just want to shoot things. But these might be issues worth considering, and of course your input through whatever venue would be appreciated!

    WG should refund the dbs spent on secondary BBs. They didn't simply nerf a ship or two, they ruined the entire reason I even bought the Tirpitz and Massachusetts to begin with. Or the Georgia for that matter, but this one was for coal and also gets insanely accurate with Deadeye

    Removing HE from the game does not make any sense. There is so much difference of calibers between a DD and a BB. BB will have no issue penetrating other ships while DDs and cruisers will have a hell of a time penetrating BBs. In world of Tanks I hated being in a light tank or a a bottom tier heavy tank because you cannot pen anything, even the "Weak" spots of the frontal armor of the top tier heavy tanks. And at least, in a tank, you are fast enough to circle around a heavy tank and shoot the back of its hull but you cannot do that in a ship. I think the only thing to change is to give to the BBs the same cool down time for the damage control party as cruisers.

    In a way I feel like this new meta has made Massachusetts obsolete. It's my favorite battleship that I have right now but it feels like it has no purpose now because you can't really brawl. I'm going to keep trying to brawl whenever I get the chance but damn this sucks.

    I wonder if the concealment expert skill is really worth it. On paper, sure it improves dead eye but for example on NC detection range changes from 13.5 to 12.2 km. Is that really so much better? I tried out durability skills instead to deal with fires and HE damage. Same for Iowa, detection changes from 14.1 to 12.6....on a ship with 23+ km gunnery range. I don't think it is worth 4 skill points.

    Soo, What should I do with my GK, Pommern, Bismarck and Tirpitz now. Trying to shoehorn them into long range BB's is going to be interesting.??
    Best would be a special concealment skill to enable these to close the distance without being detected and sniped to kingdom come and back ??

    Yeah I found that Tier X matches are the ones that you want to be away from. But everything below Tier X, even Tier IX, is more fun.
    And AP should be way better in every ship. HE should just be used in niche scenarios...

    I think Deadeye would have had a more positive impact on the game if the way the skill worked were the opposite of how it is now. I mean, i think it's more realistic and logical to have better gunnery aiming at ships closer to yours than at those far away. I just don't get it.
    Edit: giving bbs -5% dispersion to ships inside it's detectability range and a further -3% if it's within 10km, i think that would help with getting fucked by rng when shooting at close targets.

      No, not really. The problem the game is having is that offense has gotten so extreme that nobody wants to be the first one spotted. BBs also can't dodge, so if you can't go dark and can't dodge you need to tank the damage, but HE, and soon BB caliber SAP, can't be tanked so you just die. The only solution is to stay in the back. Anything that increases offense, regardless of being long or short ranged, encourages players to not be the one spotted and focused.

      It's hard to hit shells from 19+ km if the BB is kiting away. Which is how BBs more effective to be played currently anyways

    I think the commander skill rework tells more about wargamings thinking than anything else. The problem is that the players (potato included) are looking at the game as something to play and what would make it a better game for people who have invested alot of time in it. The problem is that WoWs is free to play so it doesn't actually make money directly by people playing it. All the development and server costs etc. come from ingame purchases. Now some of that will come from long time players (buying premiums etc.) but as it goes on you get fewer and fewer players who are long time players and also the rate at which they buy premiums probably stays the same or drops off (afterall you have most things already). So you need to get new players in, now the new players aren't going into the game that is as it was when everyone is new, they're facing lots of experienced players with lots of optimised builds, now some people will tough it out for sure but others won't put in the considerable effort to "get gud" (harder than before). This means a large amount of wargamings income as a company from WoWs (which is what makes it worth them keeping the game going at all) has to come from very new players who will probably only play a few games buy a premium or two before they get sick of the game and leave or at least manage to stay in the game long enough to think about putting the effort in to "get gud", long range sniping is something that anyone can understand and can lead to someone having a "I played the game and blew some shit up" experience long enough to buy a premium... So from a milking new players before they give up point of view encouraging sniping is a good thing. Not to mention that if enough pressure mounts they'll get rid of deadeye or nerf it and force everyone to reset their commanders after the free reset has gone....
