Love this content man! Would love to see a video going through short & long range exercises for the main muscle groups of the body mainly more upper body exercises as it seems like ATG covers lower body extremely well
Spent the last couple months overcoming hamstring tendon issues. Front legs RDLs, glute-ham matching (single leg), ham curls with monkey feet all helped, but one thing you didn't mention in this video is flossing? I believe addressing that facia behind the knee contributed to the healing. What is your opinion on flossing?
@@billymills4238 The reason I accepted an unusual level of discomfort is because I am seeking an unusual feat. I push a little bit more than the average person - but then again not too many 5'9 51 year old guys are looking to improve their vertical jump after blowing out their knee a year earlier... So personally - i wouldn't have had any pain if I didn't push the boundaries so much.
It was nice to find this video! could you please tell me how often each type of exercise should be performed when recovering from a chronic tendinopathy. Also, what short range distal hamstring exercises are there that don´t require equipment (I don't have any), and how many reps per set should one aim for? I really apreciate any imput, thanks.
Implementing some of this on my younger sister who has had repeating hamstring issues behind the knees. We’ll see if short range monkey foot and some light long range work like the hamstring stretch can bring some life back!
Tell me why I thought Ben was going down for a single leg back extension, then the freaking dude throws down a single leg Nordic. What an absolute legend. Thank you guys for sharing this information for free, way too many gains have come faster than I expected, I cannot wait to officially be a part of the ATG fam and one day (this is my goal) be the best (or the example) form coach for all standards. Have a lovely day, and once again, thank you ATG fam!
Such great ideas. I was wondering what the distinctions are between the RDL, j curl, and the Nordic in terms of different flavors of long range strength. Why is it appropriate to use them all from the ATG perspective? Wouldn’t developing the j curl to a high level also develop the RDL? Is it because the RDL can be loaded heavier more safely? The Nordic does seem distinct from those two but I can’t say why in terms of types of strength even though they all carry the most tension in the extended position so they are all long range exercises. Why use 3? Is 3 enough? Too many? How to know? Also, I recognize A LOT of this thinking from my gymnastics days. There’s something to it for sure. It seems like ATG is kind of bringing some ideas that were locked away in gymnastics out to the world. Or there has been some convergence from separate sources. A problem with reverse engineering in all athletics is it’s hard to say what is developed from the strength and conditioning sessions and what is a byproduct of the massive volume of skill practice which also involves a high volume of tension.
They are all different... RDL can be loaded a lot more than Jefferson and the strong flat back is important for athletic movements together with round back. We use good morning variations as well. Nordics are very different because the hip doesn't hinge there is a lot less connective tissue tension in the longest position.
Could be my age (over 60) but just recently I cannot do Nordics anymore due to pain in my left hamstring so I've backed off and resorted to doing Stability Ball Hamstring Curls plus Hip Thrusts. I will give the Monkey Foot and Band Curls a try.
What are your thoughts on jump roping as a warmup when dealing with an upper hamstring tendinopathy. Are sled pushes more advisable when it comes to bringing heat and not irritating the tendon vs jump roping?
What about squats and lounges, bulgarian squats..? Should I completely avoid them? How can I also train my legs and glutes during the physiotherapy period? My glutes and leg muscles feel very weak
I like Bulgarian Split Squats and kick-stand squats. They won't help the hamstring much for most but they are good for glutes. Assisted dragon pistol / dragon squats are also great for glutes, pistol squats can also hit the glutes. Nothing wrong with walking lunges also.
What are the exact angles/degrees would we use to identify whether or not a certain hamstring exercise would be considered short range, mid range, long range and long full range etc? To help us overcome these tendonopathy pains, mines very sensitive atm.
Would love some help! Have had very bad chronic high hamstring pain (15 weeks now) from training for an ultra and am stuck. Have been unable to run/hike/bike without pain. I've been working with a PT and it just seems to go backwards any time we try to load it. Any advice on where to start here?
Couple of questions: Is inclined Nordics more of middle range exercise? And what exercise could be thought as a hip dominant long range exercise for hamstrings? Maybe rdls or deficit rdls?
Great video! Any tips for the bone getting pissed off? It doesn't feel like the tendon is in pain but rather the fibular head is tender ... ? Thanks Keegan
Go see a physio and go from there. The ben patrick is all marketing hype and will not work for every single population 100%. He hyped up how old he is when the dude is not even 40. Come the fack on 😂 at that age people still very active just ask any long distance triathletes! Use your critical thinking before falling to this marketing bs snake oil salesman!
Would the hamstring rollout exercise be consider short range strength? I am not sure the name of the exact exercise, but it is performed on a medicine ball where you push out with your legs and then pull back in.
So if top speed sprinting is the king of top range hamstring tension, and brutally fast sprinters can do nordics just because of their history of sprinting, then of what value is performing the Nordic in addition to max speed sprinting for getting faster?

I have an index of these but I haven't turned it into content yet...
Got my second one arm pull up streak using short range movement to train more frequently. Thanks Keagan for all this educational content.
This is exactly the info I needed. Thanks!!!!!!

Did you heal your hamstring?!
What pain level did you accept?

@@billymills4238 Sure did. RDLs ..ATG strength training healed it

This question needs to be answered or at least give us a direction to learn more about it

I would suspect it will!

Love your video, but please, make a video like this in the abductor area, progressions, groin pain, etc. Please.
Maybe the perineum?

How do you begin to progress while dealing with tendonopathy?
What are your thoughts on jump roping as a warmup when dealing with an upper hamstring tendinopathy. Are sled pushes more advisable when it comes to bringing heat and not irritating the tendon vs jump roping?
I would generally prefer more muscular actions for bringing the heat but jumping rope could also work well.

Same game for insertional stuff in my experience... can be slower to respond...
Would ATG squat pulses help vs. high hamstring tendonopathy?

it depends on the execution / angles but generally mid / short.

Sprinters are more likely to be able to perform it, do Nordics man I think Nordic tension is was harder than sprinting
