Lyrics:
And did those feet in ancient time,
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the Holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark Satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of Fire!
I will not cease from mental fight;
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.
Formed in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer helped define and set new standards throughout one of the most ambitious and experimental periods in 20th-Century popular music. Drawn from The Nice, King Crimson, and Atomic Rooster respectively, they were hailed as progressive rock’s first supergroup. Combining driving dynamics, intricate arrangements, and virtuosic skill, between 1970 and 1978, ELP released seven studio recordings and three live albums. Such was their popularity on both sides of the Atlantic that their records repeatedly achieved Platinum status sales.
Titles such as Tarkus, Trilogy, and Brain Salad Surgery created distinctive worlds that incorporated soaring themes, other-worldly timbres, yearning ballads, humorous pastiche and dramatic long-form conceptual works. While they adapted pieces by classical composers as stylistically varied as Bartok, Mussorgsky, Copland, Ginastera and Rodrigo, ELP sounded like nobody else but themselves.
The trio performed live one final time at London’s High Voltage Festival in July 2010 just weeks short of their debut gig 40th anniversary.
Although Keith Emerson and Greg Lake both sadly passed away in 2016, interest in ELP continues to grow, and Carl Palmer’s own band regularly performs a setlist dedicated to the unique music he helped create. ELP's music continues to find new audiences more than 50 years from their beginning, a striking testament to the group's irrepressible blend of energy, eclecticism, and visceral excitement.

I am still a fan of Emerson Lake and Palmer and their music 51 years after first experiencing them in 1973.
Became a fan of these geniuses when I was 13 years old. 52 years later, I'm still convinced that ELP is the best band ever.
Masz rację też tak uważam ❤❤😂
I listen to a local yokle station here I oregon, but they play some of Greg lake's songs. Yea I was 14 when this album came out and I just chilled to it
Damn Stright. Long Live ELP
U got that right 😊
I agree. The best band ever
I thank God every day for growing up in the 60's. The best music.
This is from the 70s
Dear Blakeps 192 ... And in the 1970s.
The composer of this hymn is Sir Hubert Parry from XIX century. But,yes,it's true, the best music was in 60' s & 70' s.
Best Supergroup Ever. We'll never see such skill & talent again.
I zaangażowania wspaniałych ludzi
yes yes yes❤

There's tons of amazing modern bands; You need only be open to finding them.
Never again.
Hard to believe there was a time British radio wouldn't play this because it was considered a sacrilege for a rock band to record this solemn hymn. I'm glad everyone's reconsidered.
That's funny. I loved this album and especially this song from the time I was 13 but I never knew it's origins were in a William Blake poem: "Did those feet, in ancient time", until many years later as an adult going back to college. My prof in that Literature class had never known ELP had covered the song. I brought him the CD... LOL
Many decades later, I still get goosebumps when I hear it.
You do know it was written in 1830 by WILLIAM BLAKE English composer because people don't realise they think ELP wrote it😂👍⚔️
This is the best version of the best hymn ever ❤❤❤
I wish the lyrics were included. I'm having a hard time understanding them. It sounds like he's singing about JESUS ❤ If he is I love him.
I'm 62 and have only heard a couple of songs by ELP. One of them is "In the Beginning." I love, love, love that song ❤
I finally decided to investigate them further. So far, so good. I love their intrinsically hypnotic music. 🎶🎶🎶
It's so unique
@@lyrakelticaLook up WILLIAM BLAKE he was a ENGLISH COMPOSER who wrote it in 1830's as a patriotic ENGLISH HYMN wanting to build a type of JERUSALEM in *ENGLAND* for GOD and the people.Theres one on UA-cam with Lyrics just look up *JERUSALEM HYMN* ..👍
@@lyrakeltica This is an arrangement of a Church of England hymn, I believe.
Look up William Blake’s “And did those feet in ancient time.” This is where the lyrics to both the hymn and this song come from.
The original poem from which this song and the hymn derive is by William Blake. Look up “And did those feet in ancient time.”
I'm 67, and bought the first album (From the Beginning) about 55 years ago, and I'm still listening these guys, and will be until I'm dead (maybe even after). They've changed my life.
I'm 67 and I had this and Yessongs. Made for some great weekends.
God bless ELP ! 🙏
Palmer's drumming is amazing. Provides so much power, yet in such a way that you don't even notice it.
A little before my time but my brother turned me onto them
so grateful that I got to see them live in the early 2000’s
L'une des reprises les plus inattendues et les plus osées jamais réalisées par le rock progressif. Un monument. Quand on pense que la BBC l'avait interdit de passage sur son antenne...
Just superb!
Awesome...simply awesome!❤❤❤
I liked the voice of Greg Lake, even when he was young on "In the court of the crimson king" King Crimson, and I liked this song Jerusalem so much.
Ah, likewise!
~~ 20 years ago - when "DVD Audio" was a thing - I got just one - and it was EL&P's 'Brain Salad Surgery' - audiophiles can say what they like about vinyl records sounding warmer and more natural etc. - but that disc is the best sounding version of that record I've ever owned - including vinyl - 8-track - cassette ..
Whenever I hear this song I think of Graham Chapman with a brown paper brown bag over his head and Eric Idle and Michael Palin standing inside of a cardboard box singing the lyrics a capella together...lol. Such mavericks! Long live ELP and Monty Python!
Super 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤩 great band, 3 super talent musicians, somehow through their music I was introduced to classical music. I love their songs, and Greg Lake voice is always amazing 🤩
Love them since they appeared...... Many songs became classic... Hard to find such groups nowadays....

Brain Salad Surgery. Great album!!!
Not only is the album awesome, so was the album artwork.
Maravilloso.Esto es muy grande.Desde que lo escuche por primera vez en 1981 me deslumbro.Enorme version.
Found out about this song/band today in one of the coolest ways possible. Currently working at a thrift store and while i'm testing a cd and cassette player i turn it on and this song starts playing, albeit in extremely low quality from an old cassette that this must have been copied to. It was staticy, had loud bass but little treble, and yet i listened to the song in curiosity. I couldn't stop, so luckily i let my phone listen to the audio and well here i am now. I was shocked at how interesting this track sounded.
The Album was BRAIN SALAD SURGERY and it was one of my first favorites as a teen in the 70s. I saw them in concert a few years later. I'll treasure that memory forever.
Love It Forever!!! Best arrangement of this song!!!
I've been thinking a lot about this song since October 7th standing with the people of Jerusalem all the way from California
My old school song.
It should maybe? Be England's National Anthem? What a divine hymn ! A great version as usual by ELP!!
Esse disco é muito bom, considero o melhor da banda.
Thank you ELP I'm glad I got to see you at Woodley Park 1987 California
Sublime.

La percusión de Carl Palmer es una obra en si misma.

Definitely does the Hubert Parry hymn supreme justice!
WILLIAM BLAKE wrote it in 1830 who was an English composer
Maravilha de música,
ELP had some good tunes
This is better than the original
Sounded much better on vinyl in the seventies or am i ,hang on who am I ! 😂
epic
I love this hymn and wish we sang it in my church choir.
The best. I play this on every gig. And Lucky Man. Fuck me that Moog! So badly miss Keith and Greg.
✌️🙏
Spectacular version, a pure classical forever green like... Jesus Christ, each Christmas we celebrate his birthday event and from my behalf Jesus deserves the best celebration paaaarty of all times, yeah, Jerusalem since Jesus ages had to be the symbol of tollerance and understanding among all religions, cultures or social classes who ever tried to put out for sale it's merchandising in Jerusalem, a Holy Land because a welfare opportunity for anyone. . ..two thousand years later there is still people unfit to understand... the God's ways, no way, how many more innocent victims will have to lose their lives before we learn to live together? Then . ..all war refugees will ask for political asylum in UK..not Iran either China, yeah, therefore is important , sing along and recalling the ages, the Jesus's story is still so contemporary, still so available and still, after two thousand years, we are always there at the same point😢😢😢
fairytale. democracy in uk or usa is just for rich. only in communism a fair peoples connection. we all comrades. tovariši.
so its good to be living like a venezuelan?@@silvobrecelj7208
also you cant even speak english properly. go get a job and afford an english course (btw I didnt learn english through a course since im poor, but i still dominated this language to be my 2nd language)
The song was banned by the BBC. They thought a prog rock version was irreverent.
Nice song
Nice??? Great!
It tells of the legend that Jesus visited England in his twenties. Fascinating.
The lyrics are from a poem by William Blake.
Progress rock BANZAI!
What happened to the endless enigma part 1?
This is my favorite version of this tune. Paul Robeson a close 2nd though.
...and did those feet...
神々しい曲ですね。筋肉少女帯から来ました。
Simply one of, if not the greatest rock band of all time and NOT in the Hall of Fame. Completely disgusting.
Iwas17
Just found FM
Giger on the cover?
Jerusalem is not a place anymore; it is hope for the dispossoed and not of this earth yeah
Если хотите понять на чем жиждется британский дух , послушайте первую песню - неофициальный гимн Англии, можете даже не понимать всех слов , можете вааще не понимать слов , но вы поймете смысл.
