It's a little open ended, but the series continues on in manga form with Weiss Side B. In that, no, Aya does not die. He's rescued and eventually teams up with Kryptonbrand, with whom Ken is also a member. Though originally Koyasu (creator, Aya's seiyuu) DID plan to end the series with Gluhen and Aya's death, he wanted it serialized in manga form but thought the same story twice would be boring, thus Side B was born and Aya was brought back.
Gluhen supposedly takes place after aya exited the crashers as far as I know. The other difference is that the character designs are completely different due to a lawsuit between the original character designer and the company that did weiss kreuz. Apparently they used her character designs without permissions and she won so they had to change all the character designs.

A veces me pregunto cómo habrían sido las cosas si yo no hubiese sido tan gilipollas. De haber seguido carteándonos seguramente nos habríamos acabado conociendo en persona. Una pena.

i kinda liked the original better too, cuz omi is my favorite character and he's totally lame in this one. in the show, i'm pretty sure he technically dies, but they kind of leave it to your imagination. i just had the assumption that he died. my friend told me before i watched it that someone dies and i just had a gut feeling that it was going to be aya, which kind of ruined the moment for me, since i was right. i also thought that the OVAs were depressing, until the end, of course. ;]
can someone explain to me? are the characters here the same from the first season? or are they a new team using the same weapons as the old team?? i dont get it. the only one i can recognise is aya. what happen to all the other hot guys?!! omi? ken? yoji??
It floors me that nobody answered you in 14 years. The original characters were modified after a lawsuit filed by the artist who designed the original characters. Since they couldn't use her designs any more, they had to redesign EVERYONE. Two new characters were also added... (And Yohji's the one in the cowboy hat in this video. Ugh. Terrible look.)

I also came across the side story (?) of Weiss Kreuz, the one with Aya and Ken forming a new team at the flower shop (I think, can hardly remember) but the chapters were so hard to find so I stopped reading midway.
