My opinion is it's better to know how to pick and strum before you learn to fret . Then you can learn much easier because you will have better feel to play when you do start to fret the strings. You won't be locked with your fingers trying to get to next chord . So thanks for teaching how to strum or say pick. Before you go into fretting.

The stick dulcimer is a great idea -- looks easier play and more flexible than the lap kind. Cool!

I'm still working on it. Watching your videos is like going to a Richard Thompson concert. I'm inspired then depressed when i compare your playing to mine. Thanks again for posting.

When you're showing us slowly, I see you're strumming D, U, D, and the last D. And then repeating it. But I've slowed the playback speed when you sped up, and it looks (and sounds) like you're using that last D on all the strings to go straight into the U on the first string, instead of doing another D right after the last one to start over again. Is that how we do it when strumming fast?

these strum patterns would work on the Seagull Merlin also? which is usually tuned in D A DD

MrPerry61 that is correct, any stick dulcimer any tuning...although with the doubled string it might sound a little fuller...it is the same

Do you have any videos in which the strum stick is used mostly for rhythm, while a fiddle or other instrument plays the melody? The idea is to replace a cittern or guitar at an Irish session.

No, but I think you could come up with something as long as the violin was in tune withe the stick... most are tuned DAD.. so DDAD might be a good place to start....
