I've heard Otis sing this song at quite a few funerals (the latest being the one for singer Artie "Blues Boy" White) -- somehow it seems to get more heart-rending and more powerful every time. Most recently, he went to Memphis and sang it for Bobby "Blue" Bland's funeral. I wasn't there, but I can imagine how powerfully it must have effected everyone who heard it.
This is the most powerful, sweet thing I have ever heard ! Heard it the 1st time coming home from band practice in the Mississippi Delta near Holcomb And Minter City.....Thought I was gonna fly on out the car window, Thank you, Jesus, thank you, Otis Clay...........WOKJ..Greenwood.........Ole Ship of Zion...........97 or 98.......I believe.....
We just buried my uncle last week and they carried his body out to a guy singing this song !! It really gave me peace just the words alone thank you for this video my soul really need it right now !! God bless
My pastor, the late Dr. James Earl Garmon's, favorite song. His son, James Earl Garmon, Jr., sang at his funeral today. Brought the house down! Rest in peace, Rev. Dr. James Earl Garmon, Sr., eminent pastor of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church for 30+ years.
@J Elias its not that he wasn't playing a certain way cause he didn't know the song but if you listen close he is where he should be, and not drowning out the singer now what changed is when he finish singing the organ took the lead (solo) and yes he kilt it! Im a drummer myself it's a musician thang tho.

Where is this church located?
The real musician must have came in late...Cause it seemed like the musician that started the song didn't even know the song. Is that even possible?
Supposed to start slow like that... RIP, legendary Otis Clay
otis clay is very good but johnny jones sings this song the best
