      cheat code 1 of just showing up was critical for me for habit forming. When I joined a gym, i made it a goal to simply suit up, do 10 minutes at a leisurely pace on a cardio machine. But then do it again and add 5 minutes each day. I explained it to even an open minded friend and she thought that was too little. I think she may have missed the point. It wasn't how much that was done that day but the point of showing up consistently. By the end of a couple of weeks, I was at full hour long workouts and hitting the gym consistently.

    Failed severally but I’m putting this here as an accountability check, anytime someone likes my comment I’ll update you on my current weight. I am 94kg currently
    Hello guys I have lost much but I started doing 500 skips a day before bathing in the morning and I walk some few 1000 steps in the evening and I also started walking to my workplace and walking back home after work, because it’s about 25 minutes walk from my home I am trying with my diet but I have lost 1kg, I’m 93 now. That is not much but this time I wanted to do something I can do almost everyday. Thank you for trusting me, I will try and update every two weeks so that we can get some progress every time I edit.

      Yeah! As someone on the other side of that equation.. it drives me insane when I'm watching a "weight loss" video, and the person in the video is in better shape than I've ever been in my life, and they are trying to lose 5-10 more lbs. I understand the last pounds are the hardest to lose, but as someone who's lost and gained 50-70lbs now 3 times in my life, it's just nails on a chalkboard. I HOPE to be in that situation some day!! For all of you fit folks working to lose the last 5 lbs.. keep going!! I'm just not going to watch your videos for a while, lol.

      This is such a great observation. From the opposite perspective, I'm down 26 lbs (still have ~15 more to go) and I'm the lowest weight I've been in over 10 years, but I still look like the before photo in most progress videos I see lol. Like I've had to work my butt off just to reach what's essentially another person's starting point.
      That might sound like I'm complaining but it's actually been a pretty motivational milestone for me and I'm proud of the consistent hard work I've had to put into this.

    1. Make the steps easier and smaller. Lower the minimum targets.
    2. Habit stack. Attach it to what you already do. E.g. add the step goal to the gym, by starting on the treadmill. And add a book to enjoy it.
    3.add some pain to NOT taking the steps. If you don’t have deadlines, you won’t achieve on a proper time. E.g. donate 100 to a charity you don’t like if you don’t complete.
    4. Celebrate progress. celebrate going to gym 5 days a week, celebrate being a step taker.
    5. Get over your feelings. Choose to act in accordance with your goals. Ask who you wanna be in the situation.
    6. Eat a whole lot more potatoes, they help you feel more full and will help you!!!

      After cooking the sweet potato let it cool in the refrigerator. It will create resistant starch which has many positives. You can even reheat it if you don't like them cold and it wont revert the process.

    I've been working out 5 days a week for a few months and have been feeling discouraged the weight isn't coming off as fast as I hoped. I am stronger, but I realize I'm going to have to dial in my nutrition. This video is so encouraging because if I look at it as stacking the good habits and becoming who I want to be down the road, it makes it seem less daunting. Great advice!

    • @mysterymaverick1982
      @mysterymaverick1982 4 місяці тому +13

      The best thing I've done is to reduce my workouts to 3-4 days a week. I only do weights I walk to the gym and back that's my cardio. I concentrate on trying to increase my protein in each meal i.e making creamy pasta sauce with cottage cheese and parmesan and adding chicken too. Or like for lunch today I made an omelette with added whites, tuna and cheese and red pepper. Just doing these things and tracking my macro nutrients and taking proper rest and creatine. I don't weigh myself but my body composition is noticeably changing.

    • @amandathompson6381
      @amandathompson6381 4 місяці тому +2

      Maybe I'll try that and see if it helps. I've been doing weights 4 days and 1 cardio hiit. I have only recently started tracking my food and I definitely need to up my protein, but being vegetarian I have to plan it. Being busy and a little lazy makes that hard for me! I appreciate the advice!

      @@amandathompson6381 try just do a couple hours meal prep a couple times a week. Unfortunately it has taken some planning in terms of figuring out what to eat but cottage cheese is a game changer. I make both sweet and savoury meals with it and it's full of nutrients. If you over work your body and eat too few calories it becomes stressed and can't recover properly so just going for walks steady state cardio on the days you're not training. You will be surprised at what a difference it makes because once you start building muscle it has less resources to store fat.

      @amandathompson6381 also taking progress pics and measurements along the way can help. Sometimes the scale isn't the best indicator of good health. A lb of muscle looks leaner than a lb of fat. I've seen some people that weigh the same but look much leaner and healthier with building muscle. Great job on staying consistent with workouts!

    Yes, Chelsea Mae, getting into a routine is extremely helpful. I was really amused - in fact laugh-out-loud amused- when you spoke about your giving money to a charity you really don't like!
    I became vegan a few weeks ago (at age 75). I am morbidly obese with many health problems, some of them of a serious nature, but my goal is to lose 9=10 stone, no matter how long it takes .(I've already lost one and a half of them). I go for a walk nearly every day (about 40 minutes), and do a few minutes of strength exercises with my dumbells. Most times I don't really feel like doing these things, but I am learning to force myself, and when I have done them I feel pleased.
    This is the second video of yours that I have watched, and the way you think and explain things is very much in synch with my own new way of thinking, and conforms to me that I am going about things in the right way (at last!).
    By the way, do you know the oldest vegan joke? Question: How do you know if someone is a vegan? Answer: They'll tell you!

    Great video! I started going to the gym about 2 and a half years ago. I was 300 lbs. and started going whether I felt like it or not. I left weights consistently. My goals changed from losing weight to gaining muscle. With that approach I can go from cutting weight to bulking when I get sick of the diet. It was all about the little steps and really the hardest one was the first step. It’s not easy to go to the gym when you’re 300 lbs. mentally it’s a challenge, because you feel self conscious and ashamed.

    1. Easier steps: I’m just starting out on a fitness and weight loss journey. My goal has been to ride my bike but that is still really hard for me and some days I just don’t do it and then feel like a failure. So instead of just not doing anything on those days I’m going to at least go for a mile walk.
    2. Habit stacking: I don’t work from home but I have a walking pad and as soon as you got to that part of the video I got up and finished the video while walking. UA-cam health videos is one of my habits, might as well add walking to it.

    This was so helpful and kind of you to share! Thank you! And your nails look so pretty ✨ Just a little helpful tip for you? I was taught by a personal trainer that doing the 15 min cardio After a workout, you’ll burn straight fat. Since the 45 mins you do weight lifting & such gets the heart rate up, and muscles firing, that when you do cardio afterwards, even steady cardio, it’s burning just fat. Hope that’s helpful! Take care

    I think these are great advice tips, Chelsea. I think coming up with ways to motivate REALLY make the difference in weight loss.
    I came to realize the time when I MOST snacked was key to my weight loss. I tended to snack from 4-6p - before dinner so I started taking walks during those time. Then, I would come home and make dinner with my family. I also had to reflect on NOT using food as comfort. I used a journal and I made myself write everyday on the feelings about wanting to munch but using other ways of dealing with stress. These two strategies worked best for me.
    Thank You for trying to help us take better care of ourselves.

    I just discovered you through this video and I need to say THANK YOU!!! I’ve read so many books (eg Atomic Habits), I’ve watched so many videos (eg Andrew Huberman) and they all make sense. They are logical and sensible and clear, but none of them have helped me to change my life. I watched 18 minutes of some random, lovely Kiwi mum talking about her journey and the light bulb just went off!!!! Your wording suddenly opened my eyes!!
    Warning TMI incoming: I was talking to my Therapist about how, as soon as I get close to really committing to change, such as hire a PT, I seem to double down on my bad behaviours. I start eating like a horse, binge on carbs and fast food, stop exercising altogether and I don’t understand why!! But what I did realise, was I think part of my problem is I’ve been like this for so long now, I don’t actually believe I can ever be slim or fit and strong again!
    And you nailed it! I shouldn’t be imagining myself as the slim, muscular gym junkie I want to be, but see myself as the person who does the stuff a slim, muscular gym junkie does! Every day.. Just do what “that person” would do and the results will come!! Everything else fell in place after that. It feels achievable. It’s something I CAN imagine doing! I’m nearly in tears writing this, because it’s the first time I’ve felt real hope in many years. Chelsea, thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge. I will keep you posted on how I’m doing. If nothing else has happened for you today, just know you’ve made one Aussie Gal very happy!! Much love to you and your family ❤

    This was such a good video. Cognitive Behavior Therapy in a nutshell! The point of HAVING the feeling but not letting it CONTROL your behavior is so powerful.
    There's a guy on UA-cam who's made some videos about walking - the one I'm thinking of is something like, the power of walking every day. Anyway, he also made the point re: consistency. The importance of walking (or whatever) every day isn't how strong you'll be or how long you walk - it's that you become a person (tortoise) who commits and consistently does the thing, and that is what's life-changing.
    As someone who doesn't have great executive-functioning skills, I will literally forget my intention or get distracted or overwhelmed, and then I feel like a failure because I'm not doing the thing that I do, really, really want to do! It can be frustrating and confusing, but these steps are gold. I need to sit with these ideas. Very logical and motivating :o)
    Also, love the nails 💅 😊
