This entire process was just fascinating. I grew up in a remote area high in the mountains. My mother used to jot down all kinds of tidbits about the weather and when certain flowers bloomed and when the elderberries were ready to pick for wine or jelly, first snowfall, first frost, when somebody got married, had a baby, when deer and turkey and elk appeared, etc. She was also an artist. She would have absolutely loved this and definitely would have come up with her own rendition. I had never heard of this before, and I hope one day I can try it myself. What a treasure! Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
I love the idea of keeping a phenology journal of some sort and this is a great system for it. When my sister and I were teens, our whole family spent quite a few days creating complex patterns with a compass (like your center designs). I have very fond memories of those. I would offer one piece of advice for anyone who needs/wants to buy a compass. Don't go cheap. The cheap ones don't always keep the distance one has set between the point and the pencil tip while one is drawing. I'm mostly talking about those created for students at dirt cheap prices. A good compass won't break the bank. You can also get compasses that will hold a wooden pencil or marker or such. Those types will need to hold the pencil/marker firm so it doesn't slip while you're drawing with it. I think focusing on - that is, being mindful of - phenology can put one in such a unique state of mind/mood. We went out last week and here, things are transitioning solidly into very late fall. It may seem empty of life or color or activity. But I focused on the colors of the native plants I was encountering: barberry leaves turning golden orange -- oak leaves with complex patterns of green, red, yellow, and brown -- yellow, orange and red berries from Coralberry, Carolina Horsenettle and Bittersweet -- light beige fuzzy aster seedheads -- the star shaped structures left behind on the stem after the seeds of Rough Blazing Star had blown. It's not that colorful wild riot of spring and summer flowers. But there's a beauty there. And when one takes in 'what makes this day different than the one before', one can track the slow rhythm and wheel of nature. I have to say, watching you showcase your phenology wheels from the previous months, it made my heart really happy. I can appreciate all kinds of art - but a focus on nature like this (with a fair bit of 'art' thrown in), speaks to me greatly. Thanks for sharing your process and showing us how we can do something similar.
Lovely message to read thank you. I had forgotten about the compasses that you put your own pencil into. The one I use is the one my husband had when he was at school.. They're so handy for drawing patterns. For something like this it means you don't have to work out the angles or the degrees.
These are absolutely beautiful! I can't tell at all that you were learning to use watercolor through all the months! They're all so fabulous! I especially love July's rose! It is so beautiful from beginning to end, and useing the different languages is genious!
I noticed for the first time, that our hummingbirds left our Michigan garden mid September. I never thought to keep track of my garden. Very interesting- thanks for this tutorial... it is brilliant!
Every month of your phenology wheel project is stunning, Marion! I'd love to do this next year, to get outside more and help me learn the names of plants, fowers, and trees. Thank you for the inspiring tutorial! ❤

Hi Marion! This is an amazing project! Each wheel is beautiful but all together are an outstanding achievement. Your artistry, patience and determination are superlative indeed. You're such an inspiration! Thank you so much!❤
Marion, I think your water color skills are marvelous! The Franology wheel is very interesting. I love nature and I never hear of a franology wheel before, but what a wonderful idea. This is one of the most beautiful things I have seen on YT. Not just the paintings, I mean the whole idea AND your art. I like watercolouring and can’t wait to start in january ❤️ thank you very much.
Oh, my, Marion, you've put so much deep thought into this beautiful video. Thank you for sharing your ideas so freely. Trying, persisting, getting out everyday, recognizing your improvement, accepting mistakes as little challenges, taking a breath and moving on - just exquisite - thank you!
You are so welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it.. After a pause of a couple of days I decided to carry on into this year with more of a challenge for myself. I'll be posting the first half of how I'm doing January 2025 in a few days time 🖌️😊
I love these wheels so much! My favorite is July! You are an amazing artist! I’m so looking forward to seeing the next months! Thank you so very much for sharing this amazing work with us!❤
What a beautiful and artistic way to expand your knowledge! You’ve learned and taught yourself so much doing this. You’ve learned to be diligent, to be more observant, and patience. You’ve learned other languages. You’ve expanded yourself as an artist and creator and you’re still not finished. Can’t wait to see the completed project. My favorite month was February. Those twigs are gorgeous. Simply amazing project Marion. Well done online friend from across the ocean.
Thank you. I learned so much just from the fact that I actually have managed to do it every day. There were a couple of times I had to catch up with the paintings because of one thing or another. But I made sure I recorded my data every single day. February's twig paintings were when I was really confident that I would carry on for the whole year! I loved doing them so much..
Hi Marian, I am so totally blown away by your creativity and ability to do so many beautiful things!! You are a very inspiring woman and I love the way you are so excited about everything you do!! I am so grateful that your UA-cam channel popped up on my TV that day, I have been watching ever since! Thank you for all you do!
What a lovely way to keep a nature diary. To pause and take that moment to observe and reflect on the beauty that surrounds us, and then to record it in such a simple yet profound way is really moving. What a blessing your art is, for I know its healing power, not only for yourself, but for us also. Thank you Marion for sharing such loveliness, it always touches me and inspires. 😊❤
Creating anything at all has healing powers I think. I also think that absolutely everyone has creativity within them. Lots of people just don't realise it though.
Thank you so much. I got soooo much out of this video. What a great way to see the world. A stunning daily Diary entry. Even a great story. What a fabulous way to go on challenging yourself.
This is fascinating and a wonderful way to stay in a mindful throughout the year even if it’s just a small part of each day. So much thought and creativity has been woven into these wheels. Thank you for sharing with us! ❤
You do yourself an injustice, you can paint beautifully. I am so inspired to create some of these myself when I move back to the North East in January. Thank you so much for sharing these, they are absolutely stunning!
OMG. I'm speechless. These are stunning. I could look at yours for hours, and I'm so inspired to give them a try myself. Thank you so much for sharing yours, and for teaching us how to do it too. What a beautiful project! I'm so excited to give it a try.
This is wonderful! Your video was in my recommendations and I was drawn to it by the thumbnail. I had never heard of a phenology wheel before, it's a beautiful way to record what we see in our surroundings! Thank you for sharing 😀
Wow! I am amazed at how you developed each month! So beautiful, you inspire us to just try new things! I am always impressed with your gentle teaching style and your talent! Bless you for sharing with us!
Absolutely wonderful record of your time in the garden. I love how the idea is open to additions or other materials. It's a good lesson in slowing down too.❤
Thank you for sharing your beautiful artworks with us! This video is so inspiring in a number of ways - to see the value of little daily practices building over time, and to appreciate and pay attention to the changes in the natural world throughout the year. I can't wait to see how you finish it off ❤
These are not only beautiful expressions of nature and the wheel of the year, watching the video is grounding, centering, and quite meditative. Much appreciation.❤
Phew! I hoped I made it easy. The main thing is if you use a compass you don't have to figure out angles or any measurements at all. The compass will do it for you 😊
That is such a cool project! I could see someone uncover this in your basement 100 years from now and talk about your art and the weather of the past! Really really interesting!
Beautiful project! I am making a temperature quilt for my first year of retirement. I am not good at drawing and don’t think any amount of practice would make a difference so fabric art for me.
Now I know what to do with all the detritus I drag back to my house that sits there in piles for a while, then gets moved to other pile areas. What a wonderful find for today, thank you, wishing you all good nature for 2025 🐦
This is absolutely beautiful Marion! What an amazing accomplishment you have achieved! You never fail to be so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your talent with us.❤️
oh my God, my dear Marion, I can only agree with the previous speakers: wow wow wow!!! what a wonderful piece of work, I am completely speechless and amazed. you are so creative and talented. I didn't know that you could paint so well. but I'm not really surprised. you have such an incredible power of observation, attention to detail and warmth of heart... it is simply balm for the soul to be able to watch you. I must have watched the video about your garden 20 times or more and was so delighted. You let nature grow as it wants and give life space to unfold. Your magnificent garden is a small oasis and so are you with your UA-cam channel. Pure deceleration, love and inspiration and I would like to say: to some extent the healing of the feminine. I am so grateful to you and that you give us so much here with your insights and instructions. God bless you and your family. You are a beacon! Lots of love❤❤❤❤❤
My goodness.. thank you for this lovely message. I spent years working in nature conservation and I'm trying to re engage with nature again as I lost the interest after my husband passed away. This is an attempt to get back to what gave me peace before ...
These are so beautiful. What a wonderful way to memorialize the day. And based upon those leaves, your watercolor skills look extremely professional. I'm so glad you shared this.
What an achievement to have completed your whole year of wheels! Thank you for sharing your work and for the kind inspiration. I think it is just the perfect project for me to try this coming year but I'm going to give myself an easy lead in by starting now and doing the end of the current year then go on with 2025 when God willing I will have learned the habit and established a wee routine for myself. I love you and your channel Marion. God bless you and those you love. Vera in Northern Ireland ❤
That’s lovely Marion …I know you’re binding it into a booklet , I would put the year on it in the space above the month ,these things do get separated for whatever reason…we did these in school for art…we did building as they were getting built, trees, flowers, sky, insects, a farmyard field…daily tea/coffee/drinks, breakfast/lunch, baking, clothing, shoes,it’s so true you do get better at free hand drawing it can be anything…love it…..tfs always!..
Good idea. It's going to get a front and back cover eventually, but I really should sign and date them. When I started I had no idea that I would be doing them quite like this or that I'd be ending up with a book of them. The whole project just evolved!
This is fantastic. Two years ago I crocheted a Temperature afghan and it was definitely a labor of love. I have been looking for something along those lines but I can't face another crochet project of that commitment LOL. This is a wonderful idea. I have just started dabbling in watercolors and watercolor pencils with a water brush and I'm having fun with it. I'm sure other artists would gasp in horror at my techniques .. but we are our own artists and can do what we want lol. In the long run if I screw up it's only paper and water, nothing earth-shattering. I've even learned to embrace my mistakes and complete fails. It's just a stepping stone to gaining more knowledge and confidence. You have me contemplating on how I will tackle this lovely project for the beginning of 2025 🥰
You're doing something for your own self and it doesn't matter at all if someone else doesn't understand about it. I never expected to be showing everyone my wheels as I didn't think I'd be able to finish one month ,never mind all 12... but here we are!
Oh My Goodness! Your work is fabulous! Thank you for sharing and so carefully explaining the process of creating the chart with circles and wedges. What a lovely way to practice art.❤
Hello Marion, this was so inspiring. I have not been able to get to my gardens as I so desire for a year and recently told my husband I was going to start going out even if it was for 5 minutes, there are things to been seen in such a short span, and this video has spurred me onward, thank you so much. I will begin gathering my supplies this week and making my wheels for next year, to begin in January. The ideas are endless. Your wheels are stunning, thank you so much. And for the lesson of learning a new word, phenology, I have never heard that term. In Joy
Questo calendario è spettacolare! È veramente emozionante vedere tutta la bellezza che la natura ha regalato in un anno! Complimenti per la sua arte e grazie per la condivisione! Un saluto dall’ Italia 🍁🍂🍃🌺
My goodness Ellie... I'm not in your league! I'm passable but trying to be better.. at least I can see improvement even with these tiny slices of painting. My theme for November is Texture. That means I can pick things like paint and bricks etc... as long as it's in my garden that is 😊🖌️🎨
What a wonderful thing to do, Marion. The results are beautiful and the journey the exercise has taken you on, equally so. In our fast-paced world of instant results, it’s good to slow down and do something which requires patience, observation, skill and time, isn’t it. I am doing a monthly nature journal with drawings and notes of things I see, and even though I’m doing it regularly rather than every day, I am still noticing my drawing improving. Thank you for showing us your very special work.
Thank you. I really didn't expect that I'd manage to keep it going all the year. I didn't even think I'd still be doing it at the end of January...but all of a sudden it just took hold of me and by the end of the month I knew I was hooked and wanted to carry on. ☺️🖌️🎨
The wheels are gorgeous Marion. Your paintings are so lovely and perfect colored. The wheel with the yellow rose shows the timeline line from birth to death so beautifully. Thank you again for such amazing inspiration.
Thank you so much, Marion. I can't wait to start my own phenology wheel, and I hope to get my inspiration from my vegetable garden. I'm not a great watercolour painter, but I like to draw, so we'll see what comes out of it. Thanks for the instruction about how to make the framework. That really helped. 😊😊
First time watching yourr videos, and now, a new subscriber!! Somebody has already taken the words right out of my mouth! Cant believe we had the exact same thought!! And that is, in my 15 years or close too, of watching youtubes, this is by far the best video I've ever watched. Your voice is soothing to listen to & your instructions are clear & to the point. You may not think you are great at watercolour but I feel you are much better than you think. Thank you so much for sharing this truly unique and special idea. You are a gift to the crafting community. ❤
Oh thank you so much for this message. I really appreciate it a lot as I do try explaining things as clearly as possible and try not to assume someone knows one of the steps already... because they might not! 😊
What an amazing achievement Marion🎉 You truly are the most industrious person I've ever seen on UA-cam. I love your wheels on the months of the year. Your paintings are brilliant. Thank you for taking us on your journey. Love everything you do...whether it's embroidery, sewing, painting and even gardening...don't forget your baking and your sculptures out of fabric and beach finds.😅❤❤
Oh my goodness Marion ! Your wheels are absolutely beautiful ! I thought that they looked like something out of a botanical book ! Seriously beautiful ! I could see how your painting had improved, when you showed the two wheels, but still stunning to me : ) I was really blown away by how they looked, even made my eyes water, brought on joyous emotion. Well done !
I have a suggestion!! But first: Marion, these are absolutely gorgeous! That foxglove-- * chef's kiss * wow. Ok so i see these and think gosh, they should be on display! But how? So I'm thinking wall art? Mmm.. round, difficult to frame. Mobile? Maybe but- 12 would be quite a lot to hang... And then it hit me: a calendar! But!! One of those daily ones where you switch it each day- instead of flipping a page, though, you ROTATE your wheel so the current day is in the 12 o'clock position! You could make a stand for them that would hold the "deck" of 12 wheels in a kind of curved cradle, and allow you to switch out each month and rotate them! You could even do a collaboration (youtube loves when you do those, right?) with a woodworking channel or something to have them build it for you! Ok it was just a thought ❤ As always, adore what you are sharing with us, and your new releases are the highlights of my week!
I love the idea of a curved wooden cradle for them. That's wonderful. I'll keep that in mind for next year as I've already started prepping these ones for a book 🤞 Thank you so much 😊💐🖌️

Your dedication to completing this beautiful year-long project, shows us what a truely amazing and gifted person you are. Thankyou for sharing.
I noticed for the first time, that our hummingbirds left our Michigan garden mid September. I never thought to keep track of my garden. Very interesting- thanks for this tutorial... it is brilliant!
Hello from Michigan too!❤
Marion, I am speechless. Your imagination, creativity and talent blows me away!!
Love! Love!
Every month of your phenology wheel project is stunning, Marion! I'd love to do this next year, to get outside more and help me learn the names of plants, fowers, and trees. Thank you for the inspiring tutorial! ❤
This is so lovely! Your direction and guidance on creating the wheel is great, and your encouraging words about not being so perfect are so helpful. Thank you for sharing!
The science teacher and artist in me love this!!!❤
😊
Oh, Marion, this is art, love, hope and so much more...discipline,consistency
You are a Master❤.
Thank you for heart inspiration. I look up to you in Awe ,Gratitude and Grace.
Amazing Marion. You are so talented and inspire us all to give things a go even when we think we can't do something. Nearly 40,000 people love your gentle, encouraging manner with which you go about everything. A true UA-cam phenomenon. Thank you for being you ❤ xxx
Crikey. Thank you Debby
So very beautiful! Every page is special. Thank you, Marion, for sharing your talents and for your gentle encouragement to everyone.❤️
The shy wheel is fascinating and 😍 beautiful. You never cease to amaze me with your talents and skills. Thank you so much for sharing with us. I look forward to your videos more than you can imagine. Living as I do in a facility, you are like a loved a trusted friend that comes to visit and brings sunshine into my life. Thank you so much for what you do. You never know who's life you may be touching and you've definitely touched mine. ❤
I'm so glad you find enjoyment in seeing what I'm up to Jayne 😊🖌️
I love this so much - thank you for your generosity in sharing and a magical glimpse into your back yard. What a gift! Very inspired!!
Thank you so very much for sharing this amazing work with us!❤
I'm so happy UA-cam showed me this video. It's calming and beautiful. I can't wait to add watercolor nature to my life. ❤❤
This is one of the coolest things I've seen for doing regular (daily) artwork. This is fabulous and lovely. How creative!
Thanks so much Meludy. I'm glad you've carried on enjoying my videos 😊🖌️🎨
Can’t wait to see the finished year and compiling it all in a book. I’ve started prepping my wheels for 2025.
@marionsworld24 ❤️
Thank you so much. I got soooo much out of this video. What a great way to see the world. A stunning daily Diary entry. Even a great story. What a fabulous way to go on challenging yourself.
I loved this Marion. Thank you for brightening a difficult day for me.
Oh I hope you're okay Sarah..
This is fascinating and a wonderful way to stay in a mindful throughout the year even if it’s just a small part of each day. So much thought and creativity has been woven into these wheels. Thank you for sharing with us! ❤
Always in joy watching you show, you're a wonderful teacher. You open a person eyes to see the beauty in everything you do.
I bless you
😊🖌️🎨
WOW!!! WOW, WOW,WOW!!! Thank you for sharing! This is such a unique way to track the weather and nature!! I love this!
Wow! I am amazed at how you developed each month! So beautiful, you inspire us to just try new things! I am always impressed with your gentle teaching style and your talent! Bless you for sharing with us!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful wheels. You truly are an inspiration to try new things and not worry so much about perfection!
I can't wait to see how you finish it off ❤
Thank you so much!
These are not only beautiful expressions of nature and the wheel of the year, watching the video is grounding, centering, and quite meditative. Much appreciation.❤
Thank you Michele. I really appreciate your message.
What a wonderful idea and record. So beautiful and a delightful way to focus on some gratitude for the day.
I have loved watching every single second of this video. ❤❤❤
I hope you might want to make one yourself...😊🎨🖌️
@ I would like to try but I probably would forget each day…. And then I’d be disappointed, plus I have lots of project I need to finish.
Thank you so much for sharing your process. I’ve not heard of phenology wheels before and now I am enchanted.
😊🖌️🎨
What an amazing almanac of artistry!
The beauty and creativity of this project made my day.
You are an inspiring teacher for us all ! Your instructions were so easy to understand. I love your Phrenology Wheel & each theme ! 💙
Phew! I hoped I made it easy. The main thing is if you use a compass you don't have to figure out angles or any measurements at all. The compass will do it for you 😊
It is beautiful, Marion!!! As are you, sweet lady.
Well done!!!❤🎉
You have done Mother Nature proud with this Phrenology Wheel. Like her, this is a true work of art. Thank you for sharing the magick with us 🖤🍂🖤
😊🍂🖌️
That is such a cool project! I could see someone uncover this in your basement 100 years from now and talk about your art and the weather of the past! Really really interesting!
Beautiful project! I am making a temperature quilt for my first year of retirement. I am not good at drawing and don’t think any amount of practice would make a difference so fabric art for me.
Fabric art is good!😊🪡🧵
Now I know what to do with all the detritus I drag back to my house that sits there in piles for a while, then gets moved to other pile areas. What a wonderful find for today, thank you, wishing you all good nature for 2025 🐦
Thanks Mary. Happy detritus dragging for this year 😊
@marionsworld24 🤗
What a beautiful project to plan to start in the New Year. I had never heard of this before. Thank you yet again, Marion, for your inspiration.
This is absolutely beautiful Marion! What an amazing accomplishment you have achieved! You never fail to be so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your talent with us.❤️
Your talent never ceases to amaze! I'm looking forward to seeing all your phenology wheels together in book.
I've started to prepare the first pages already 😊
@marionsworld24 excellent!!
Marion you are such an amazing artist. You always amaze me with everything you do. Such a talented lady! Thank you for sharing your art with us.
Wow! Stunning way to chronicle a year for future reflection. So lovely, Marion. Thanks for sharing. 😊
This was an absolute treat! Your wheels are exquisite! What a beautiful memento for the year! & what an achievement! 🥳✨🎨🍁🍂🌷
oh my God, my dear Marion, I can only agree with the previous speakers: wow wow wow!!! what a wonderful piece of work, I am completely speechless and amazed. you are so creative and talented.
She said it alll
I love your work 36:48
My goodness.. thank you for this lovely message.
Wow! That is really all I can say, WOW!❤❤❤
I enjoyed each of the wheels and lesson about the how’s and why’s. Thank you again for sharing your endless knowledge and talents with us. 😊
What a beautiful piece of data. So much information in a beautiful format. Well done Marion, that’s something to keep forever xxx
WOW!! This is a BEAUTIFUL collection of your daily painting! Thank you for sharing this!!
Great idea Vera.
They can be started at any time. I've always thought a birthday year would be a good time to start and finish too..🖌️🎨
My goodness … I’m blown away. Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing. Your watercolours are beautiful. ❤
Such beautiful work Marion, thank you so much for sharing this with us 😊
- Jeanette
I'm glad you like it, thank you. It's been an enjoyable project to do.
In Joy
I'm glad you feel inspired by it Vivian
Questo calendario è spettacolare! È veramente emozionante vedere tutta la bellezza che la natura ha regalato in un anno!
Complimenti per la sua arte e grazie per la condivisione! Un saluto dall’ Italia 🍁🍂🍃🌺
Ah Marion, you make me want to paint again. You do it so well, be proud.
My goodness Ellie... I'm not in your league! I'm passable but trying to be better.. at least I can see improvement even with these tiny slices of painting. My theme for November is Texture. That means I can pick things like paint and bricks etc... as long as it's in my garden that is 😊🖌️🎨
@@marionsworld24 But Marion, these are lovely, plus you actually see the projects through, and so can trace the improvements. Brilliant.
At last! I have been intrigued by this forever! Thank you for such a great explanation.
The wheels are gorgeous Marion. Your paintings are so lovely and perfect colored. The wheel with the yellow rose shows the timeline line from birth to death so beautifully. Thank you again for such amazing inspiration.
I wasn't sure that one was going to work. The first few days there was hardly any change. But in the end it came out well 🖌️🎨
Fantastically gorgeous! Love them SO much!
Wow! These are amazing. Thank you for encouraging people to have a go with simple materials and at whatever skill level they are.❤ Australia
Drawing will be perfect Karin. Vegetables too. If I'd been growing veggies I'm sure they'd have found their way in 😊🖌️🎨
First time watching yourr videos, and now, a new subscriber!!
Love everything you do...whether it's embroidery, sewing, painting and even
gardening...don't forget your baking and your sculptures out of fabric and beach finds.😅❤❤
😅🖌️🎨
Industrious! Great description! 😊
Wowww Marion you are so talented 👏👏👏you never cease to amaze me, you are such an inspiration.🙏🥰🥰
These are beautiful! Thank you for sharing this with us and how to do them.
This is very interesting and you have made it so beautiful 🌺
😊🖌️🎨
Oh my goodness Marion ! Your wheels are absolutely beautiful ! I thought that they looked like something out of a botanical book ! Seriously beautiful ! I could see how your painting had improved, when you showed the two wheels, but still stunning to me : ) I was really blown away by how they looked, even made my eyes water, brought on joyous emotion. Well done !
What a beautiful idea and how stunning it turned out.
Your daily illustrations are so beautiful Marion. You are a true artist and have created a very special record of this year. xx
Ok it was just a thought ❤
As always, adore what you are sharing with us, and your new releases are the highlights of my week!
I love the idea of a curved wooden cradle for them. That's wonderful. I'll keep that in mind for next year as I've already started prepping these ones for a book 🤞
Thank you so much 😊💐🖌️
@@marionsworld24 Wonderful!!!
The best kind of storm is a brainstorm. Great idea. I'm glad you shared your thoughts. Thank you. ✌️
Absolutely stunning. The British sign for rose looks like the American sign for flower. The hand shape is our letter "f" 🙂
