  • Kim Zmeskal Burdette is a true legend in the sport of gymnastics. The 1991 World All Around Champion was the first in a long line of standout Americans who have gone on to capture gold on the world stage. Trained by the Karolyis, Kim grew up watching Mary Lou Retton, Kristie Phillips and Phoebe Mills every day in the gym. Soon enough, she developed her own signature style of power and panache with an impressive resume of her own. We recent spoke to Kim regarding her numerous accomplishments, injuries, disappointments, comebacks and the Olympic prospects of her own rising pupils.

She's full of BS, Dominique went into full detail about being banned from the 2006 nationals in her book and other interviews.... Kim was just a puppet of the Karolyi's.... How the hell did her athlete (brittany something???) get named on the 2010 world team.... Such favoritism in USA gymnastics.... Glad USA gymnastics is distancing themselves from the karolyi's!!!!!!!!!!!!

2010hotmale2010 dominique moceanu is a whiny brat. Her parents forced her to do gymnastics so she is bitter and grumpy. All the other girls are very thankful to him for his training. Yes he is tough but you have to be ...he knows that is how the ussr became great at gymnastics.

Kim Zmeskal was the reason I wanted to try gymnastics in 1991 when I was 5. Loved her charisma, power, speed of her back hand springs, everything about her. I can see why she had a lot of appeal to the judges. Her floor and vaults were always just amazing.

Fantastic Interview with Kim. She remains one of my all-time favorites. I still remember fondly and enthusiastically her floor routines (3 whips through to double back and even once competed a whip through to a double layout....amazing!) So glad she is now coaching the next generation!

I wholeheartedly want to thank you guys for this. i am a figure skating fan, but I was a gymnast for about 20 years and coach at a gym here in Columbus O.H. Gym is my true love. I am a M.A. in History and I have begun an academic campaign to document modern opinions of athletes in subjective sports.
I know I have been hard on some of your interviews, but seriously, you guys have encouraged me to do something similar for gym and I have gotten a couple of interviews, but you guys have encouraged me to actually edit and post them...rather than just keeping them for my own academic interests.
I also loved you Jenny and was rooting for you to go to Torino.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I still watch her AA 91 floor for a pick me up, better than a Red Bull or any energy drink! I too adore Ragan Smith, she has the "IT GIRL" factor to be the Superstar of Rio games and gymnastics needs a new personality gold medalist, the ratings are in a slump and so few events are on tv anymore...just hoping she makes the team, if not she will be a major name in the next quad!!!! What Kim and Chris are doing with those girls is spectacular magic.

The ratings are not really in a slump. In non-Olympic years, gymnastics has never been very popular. However, during the Olympic year its popularity skyrockets as it is one of the most popular sports (if not the most popular) for the Summer games. Also, the major domestic meets (American Cup, Classic, P&G Championships) are broadcast on NBC or Universal every year even in non-Olympic years. The same goes for World Championships.

Steve C Do you wonder NOW why people DISLIKED this video??? Now that 4 years have passed, and with the whole Karolyi gym being exposed for the hell hole it was and how Kim perpetuated/protected the Karolyi’s, it’s pretty clear that people like me could see through Kim (4 years ago) and what she was doing (screwing over Moceanu and breaking down all her athlete’s by using the same abusive training method by the Karolyi’s)... Kim and Retton are now shamed and have tarnished reputations for silencing the other girls who did speak up.

Great interview. Kim presents herself in a very likable way. She seems at peace with herself, which is great to see. I am still amazed, when I look back at how truly competative and talented so many US girls were in 92. It's also a bit hard to remember that compulseries were part of everything then. I hate though, that so many of our athletes get injured at training prior to the Olympics. That can't be right or coincidental.

Absolutely the best interview with Kim I've ever seen! It was so great hearing about her time competing-things were so different back then, no social media, constant updates, etc. Really all we knew about the gymnasts back then was what the NBC fluff pieces told us. Thanks so much for this great interview!!

Would you please interview Betty Okino (2 skills are named her), Dominique Dawes (3-time Olympian) and Dr. Amy Chow (2 time Olympian)? They are women of color from the 90's that helped progress the sport of gymnastics! Before there was Gabby and Simone, there was Awesome Dawson.

Can Jenny and Dave interview with David Wilson again talk about the reality of chinese pair team switch partners (Yu with Zhang and Peng with Jin).
Hongbo Zhao(the coach of Chinese national pair team) claims Lori Nicol & David Wilson identify the split in the interview today.
4 atheletes can stimulate different fire with new partner.
Now chinese fans are extremely mad ,angry and disappointed with Zhao and Zhang hao.
Chinese fans also don't like the father-daughter style at all.
Zhang says he want to compete in Beijing 2022.
And the fans are mocking he is overconfident.
Zhang is getting older and older, and never has the artisry on the ice.
Chinese fans want to know why it happened and how it happened?
How Hongbo Zhao force Yu Xiaoyu to accept the split when she resisted the split initially?
Fans are really want to know the truth, but Chinese Fed doesn't tell much.
