I'm with hubs 100%! I would be freaking out. Drowning is, by far, my biggest fear.
Same. Couldn’t do it.
Agreed. Suffocation by water, just no...
A great reminder about watching for expired food. At least twice a year I do a pantry tidy and part of that is checking dates on all the cans and boxes. If it expires within 6 months…it goes in a special ‘use first’ section.
Yes, expiration dates so important, many people I know just don't pay any attention to them, can't be bothered and don't really think it's important. I have heard many times that things last long after expiration dates. That may be true in some cases, but, in many cases, it's not, and can make someone really sick, not worth taking a chance.
I opened a can of evaporated milk a couple days ago, and it looked dark. Expired this past April. Not long at all. I threw it away.
Our budget is usually super tight, but around the holiday season we like to try and donate to the christmas drives in town. Instead of struggling to squeeze it into the Nov/Dec budget, I've taken to using Chrisco hampers. I pick out a range of non-perishable goods, toys and school supplies, pay for it over twelve months and it all gets delivered mid Nov. We go through it, grab out the things we want and repack the rest for donations. Last year we turned up with our Ford Territory loaded to the brim. The sweet ladies who came out to see the load started getting a little teary-eyed at the sight of all the wholesome food. Found out later that the donations went to help 60 families in my small town.
That’s wonderful!
You put pictures on the wall! That's definite growth. You'll be decorating in no time. 🙂
This is a good lesson on what you should stop buying, too.
at the beginning of each season, I put all my hangers backwards. When I wear an item and wash it - the hanger goes in the normal way. At the time to clean out closets - unless it's a special piece - if the hanger is backwards - that means I didn't wear it - it gets donated :)
Ooooh that's a good one! I'll have to try that 🤗
Look how much money could have been saved on not stocking up and risking expired product BUT how good you feel donating the rest and knowing someone will appreciate it! ❤
We just donated 32 items from our pantry! Thanks for the inspiration!
Canned green beans - drain and fry in bacon grease until slightly wrinkled, you can throw in some chopped onion. Then add a can of stewed tomatoes or if you like spicy use Rotel tomatoes. Wonderful.
Blend some coconut milk with ripe bananas and put it in a popsicle mold. Super simple but delicious. You can add a little vanilla and powdered sugar if you want to enhance the flavor.
Thanks Christine for donating right now is a great time for everyone to start declutter out the closet.
❤😊😊❤❤🎉
I'm 100% with Dave on that one. Anytime someone on a movie or TV show is underwater, I hold my breath. I would have so much anxiety watching that.
As I have lost some weight, I have had to get some different clothes. For each item I purchased, I put two items in the donate box. Great way to get declutter!!
I just wanted to tell you that you are amazing, Christine! Hope I spelled your name right. 🤷🏻♀️ There seems to be a whole lot of negativity in the comments of this video, every one that is scrolling by is complaining about something that you did not do according to what they deem to be acceptable. So I just wanted to say that you are doing great, many of us still love you and your videos! Thank you for all that you teach and share with us! ❤
Don't forget to check all pockets before donating clothing items. I alway seem to find at least a few dollars and sometimes an item I've been searching for.
Our food bank has a program. Simple Gestures. They drop off a reusable oversized tote bag to your home. You fill the bag with items/food you will not be using. Every other month on a Saturday. They pick up the filled bag and leave a empty. It reminds me to review the panty six times a year. They also request dozen egg containers and hotel hygiene items (un opened). Best part, I don’t need to put it on my errand list. Bag to the porch. Done.
I'm with Dave. After a childhood near drowning in the Gulf at 11 years old, being in deep water /underwater is one of my worst fears. Yet my children are super excited about snorkeling to a ship wreck in the Caribbean during our trip in a few months 😮. I'm trying to not let my anxiety ruin it. And it's only 12 feet down. But this is hard for me. I also noped right out of zip lining. Their dad is in charge of taking them to that. I can't miss both excursions though. At least with the snorkeling I could retreat to the boat and just internally panic everytime they dive down
Oh my goodness this is so funny to see. I just this weekend went through my entire closet and donated everything that I could that had an open front type of shirt or a larger belly section to a wonderful cause in my area. There is a house in my area that takes in pregnant teens at want to keep their babies but live in a hostile or type of environment that is not safe. This house allows them to keep their babies while learning how to be pregnant first and how to clean a house and take care of the house and take care of themselves and then have their babies in a safe environment. They also learn how to make a resume and interview for jobs it's an amazing organization. Then connected with that is a thrift shop that I donated everything else do including baskets and CorningWare and candles that were not used anything that would help them raise money. But in the meantime I also can now see the floor of my closet and the Shelf is completely bare it's amazing
Girl my household did this this month! I even got my husband to declutter hi side of the closet!
Rogue and Speedy for president!!! I laugh because as soon as I declutter that's when I find a recipe that calls for it
Our local coat drive is this Saturday. I help setup and breakdown. We have a “Room of requirement” for appointments weekly. Clothes, coats, shoes, boots, hygiene and even housewares and linens. I love the blessings of blessing. 💕
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!! One of the things I'm always conscious of is donating "monthly" products for women and teenage girls. They're a need-type item yet SUPER expensive! I often stock up on that sort of stuff when I see it on sale too, just for this reason! ❤
I work at a giant agricultural complex where allot of events are held. I’m forever finding jackets and coats and various other items. I usually try to find out who they belong to but when I can’t I donate them. I recently took 22 jackets to my towns blessing box. It not only has a food donation area but clothes, books and shoes. I go through my pantry about every 2 months and take the canned or shelf stable items there.
For your canned peaches, I can recommend making curry soup with peaches and shrimps. Sounds crazy, tastes amazing! I think there are several recipes online but my trick is to blend the soup (without the shrimps) with an immersion blender and the serve over shredded iceberg lettuce, diced peaches (keep 1/3 of the tin for that) and then the grilled or fried shrimps in top. It’s delicious
Those canned peaches make excellent peach crisp in a pinch.
When you say you close to Canada but i see the prices in the videos, i feel like like you are in a different planet. From Edmonton, AB
Christine I watched the it! The Longest Breathe I have major water phobias and issues and it was late at night even worse for me. I started it then freaked out and turned it off. I’ve had a couple almost drowned experiences in my life so water is not my friend. Howe Dr I realized that my mind couldn’t let go of it and so I had to finish it. I had sooo much anxiety but about the middle of the show you find beauty in their experiences, the water, the team, the passion. Which was totally unexpected for me. At the end I was bawling my eyes out between the love the members have for each other, the frustration of not meeting goals, and the loss of people they love. It is a fully enlightening experience. It is not something I would watch maybe more than 1 or 2 times in my life but it did get me a sense of peace with water. I would encourage Dave to watch it, he might realize his fear is great but not greater than what their experience is which is very enlightening and spiritual.God bless 💗🤗
Same. We’re state neighbors. I live in north central Montana. I try to donate every spring and fall. You pretty much know what you didn’t wear or use all winter and summer. Plus, people need help all year round not just the winter and the season of giving.
Sharing with those who need it is great.
Great job decluttering!❤
Your hair looks great today! The bangs have reached peak 🔥 length and blending on the sides
Winter preparation too! ✅
I am with Dave 💯
I watched that documentary! It definitely freaked me out, but I comfort myself by knowing that the divers love what they're doing. And nobody can make me do it!
No way! I'm with your hubby! Greatest fear!
I already registered for the event…..so excited!!!!
I love throwing stuff away so satisfying
Agreed! I always do major declutter October/Nov!
You have such a good heart! Thinking of people and family in need.❤
My dad was a professional free diver. As a kid i would sit on the edge of a pool and watch him swim the length and back, at the bottom, multiple times with one breath. He was my superhero and inspiration for getting Padi certified. Free diving is not my thing, yet i watched the documentary and it made me feel closer to him. Hes been gone for 11 years now and he would have been so excited to see it
So awesome to see the donations. ❤
Great 👍 video, Christine. Love your humor. Love 💕 and Hugs. ❤❤❤
I have seen the documentary. It was so good but blew my mind. Definitely recommend watching.
Great idea! Adding a declutter and donate trip to my planner this week! Thanks for the inspiration! (And yes. Those documentaries freak me out. Lol.)
I have a horror of ending up like those people swallowed up by their household. If i want something new, I try to determine something I can get rid of to make space for it. If I don't use something at least once a year for a holiday, I give it away- Not matter precious emotionally or how expensive it is. I actually enjoy giving stuff away- It makes other people happy and it makes ME wonderfully happy when I open up SPACE in my home! I live in a small apartment, and every inch is jealously guarded territory! I went through a flood years ago and lost almost everything I owned. I learned that NOTHING is permanent! We lost wonderful little Christmas decorations my daughter and I made together, books, shoes, jewelry- And little by little things get replaced, but things will NEVER be the same! That changed my attitude about collecting things. Now, rather than cramming my space with chrystal or books, I enjoy looking at crystal online or giving most of my books away after I read them. When I thought about it=- Most of the things I cherished before the flood were only used once in awhile, and I've even forgotten what some of them were! Why give up SPACE for something I never even think of?!
Love ur t-shirt!! My small town in Illinois has a community building that I donate clothes, coats and any household item like dishes, towels, curtians, sheets, books, games, basically anything that is usable. They are open Saturday morning and you go in take what you need for free and in future hopefully you pay it back. Its run by volunteers who do a great job!!! Also I have taken food i don't like/use so they can distribute with there monthly food . Its a win win for the town
I can’t watch this!! I have SUCH a fear of the ocean- I did see some clips from this one and was holding my breath and knew it was 100% not for me haha! I’m with Dave!
I watched The Deepest Breath and LOVED it. Thank you for mentioning it or else I never would have discovered it.
Great initiatives for decluttering when it goes to organizations that can help others in need!
Nice to know that I have company & not be the only household that doesn't use canned goods except for tomatoes. Now we do a 2 can maximum of any kind of canned vegetable for the pantry stock pile and will use it up before they expire.
What great timing 😀 I’am in the middle of cleaning and organizing my pantry. Thanks for reminding us to donate what we don’t use 😊
By the way love that documentary!! I really never thought of so many people who deep dive. I found it fascinating, inspiring and yes sad. But so worth watching ❤️
Thank you Christine just for being a Gamechanger in a state of happiness
Hi - yes I've watched that free diving doco and loved it! But probably because I did a free diving course as a challenge so felt is pricing watching that one.
Oh my goodness! We watched that documentary. It freaked me out too, but we watched it and it was so interesting.
Thanks for this inspiration. I have been watching other decluttering videos and it has inspired me to declutter some more things in my house, as well as take a good hard look at some of the things I am keeping 🙂
I love love LOVE documentaries! Going under water now freaks me out, but watching a documentary about deep sea diving does not. I watched a documentary about a woman who trained for deep sea diving a few years ago and was amazed how they can do that and train for! Not to change the subject but yes! Been decluttering my holiday decorations and feels good doing that! I usually donate to Vietnam Vets for stuff like that except for the food. I take that where it’s needed
Christine. We made it all the way through the documentary. It is such an extreme sport and so dangerous. It is interesting to watch.
I’ve been very careful to use what we have the amount of food we used to waste is so sad 2 me. I don’t let things expire & if we bought we are eating it. I’m with you on the canned soup😝 100% w/ Dave
My local area does a winter clothing drive and they set it up all nice in an unused store unit inside of our mall but also try to make it feel private for shoppers that prefer more descretion. This year I noticed that they are also looking for insulated blankets, tarps etc.
Progresso is the only even half acceptable canned soup. Homemade is the way to go!
Host a watch party Christine 😎
I’ll watch it with you!!
we are experiencing a cold snap and it reminded me to get out winter gear. Every Spring/Fall I purge the upcoming seasons items. Yesterday was mittens, gloves, scarves and toques.I will be donating to the local thrift store. They set really low prices so anyone can afford it.
Christine, thanks for another great video. It is a good to remind everyone to declutter and take those coats, clothing and food to the local community to give to those in need. Keep up the great work.
Use the peaches for peach crisp with oatmeal.
Love it!
No way! The. Wes for thrill at the risk of death is insane 😮
I don’t even think they should to the show!
Great info
A great documentary, hard to watch but powerful
This isn’t related to this video but I just had to tell you about the deal I got yesterday. My husband and I belong to BJ’s wholesale club and they stack their coupons. I got a bottle of Jet Dry, which is $11.99. With them stacking coupons, I got it for $3.99!!
Can you let me know how that deal works? I need jet dry but never buy it because it is so expensive. Thanks!
We watched it and it was really good! We kept our cool..lol
I decluttered my closet 3 times this year.
I try to go through my pantry every 6 months and pull out almost expired items. Then I put them in a certain area of my kitchen so I am reminded to plan meals using them. It works
Well, I decided to check out the documentary and those first few minutes 😱😳….. I did finish it though and it was well told and for me it was worth watching. Thanks for the recommendation…well I guess it wasn’t really a recommendation lol.
Totally with Dave on the documentary 😅
It's ALWAYS "Time To Declutter"... it just doesn't always happen.
You've started with a sweet message.
[heart emoji]
I love your Princess Bride sample.
I gave a toast at a wedding that included the "MLT" section when talking about true love.
5 stars!
I definitely felt so freaked out watching that documentary. I made my husband stop it, but then it was kind of haunting me to not know what happened, so we finished it another time.
Farmers will often take expired food (and pick up). I have pigs and chickens and food prices are high for them, too. Raw fed dog owners will take freezer burned meat.
I will watch it with you Christine! I can't swim but not afraid of water, unfortunately I'm on the east coast so i'm kinda surrounded Lol
You also use canned green beans for your childhood hamburger, tomato soup, green bean casserole.
I do a spring clean and also toss expired stuff, but I’ve been adopting shop at home first so more conscious of using up thins before they expire.
I use most canned things in dishes and not on their own so don’t taste the metallic taste.
You could make the fruit cakes everyone is making lately, a cheap butter cake mix of any flavour and a can of any fruit with juice, mix together and cook, yummy, I’ve not made it yet though but have bought two cake mixes ready 😂 you could also add the fruit to jelly, that’s what my mum used to do, or do you guys call it jello? Or add it to your smoothies or make any other number of desserts with it or even have it on your breakfast, in or on your oatmeal?
We shouldn’t confuse “best by” date with “use by.” Let’s try to eat some of our stored food that is getting closer to the end, even if it’s not our food of first choice. So many people are going without. If we eat it instead of tossing, we can donate new food and cash to food pantries too.
Yes that drives me crazy. I eat older canned food and I'm not dead yet....
God bless you for donations ♥️
I'm with Dave! Nope Nope No wat I'd watch that. 🥺
I just donated so much clothing shoes sheets blankets and cooking things because we moved
One of my friends from work died doing what you where talking about few months ago
I just donated 2 huge bags of clothes to the thrift store yesterday.when my son went to elementary school. They had a food drive every year. I had him donate 2 bags of food every year he went. My still is in elementary school. I will be having her donate until she gets in jr high with her bother.
I was just thinking about a pre Christmas declutter and there you are to kick my butt...☺
Probably good that you guys didn't watch the whole documentary...
I haven’t watched either of those documentaries but I totally understand. I don’t go in the water I can’t see the bottom of 😂 (I nearly drown when I was kid and so I’m not a fan of water activities 😂)… although have been thinking on trying to conquer that fear but I think such diving will always be a big NO for me lol 😂
Just you talking about free diving freaked me out, despite being a good swimmer & being totally happy in & under the water, I just can't stand the thought of it and not being in full control of it. It's giving me anxiety just thinking about it.
AMEN DAVE!!!
You could put that applesauce in the crockpot and make apple butter... my hubby is on an apple butter kick.
I love going through the coat closet, especially when I find money in a jacket that I haven't worn lately 😮
I put all item on curb side mark free and gone in one hour
Make sure you always check the pockets
I watched it, and it was very interesting to me…this world of free diving…it was kinda a sad story. So if you don’t finish it, you wont be losing anything 💁🏻♀️
A Pantry and Clothing are the two things I don't even have enough of yet, currently wearing a shirt with too many holes in it atm.
I’m with you on the canned soup. Eeww. Also, your boys don’t shower unless forced either? Same. Same. 😂
Thanks for the help decluttering! I watched the movie it was amazing and sad....u should finish watching it!!! My hubby wouldn't watch either!!!😢
I WILL WATCH IT WITH YOU!!! (But I live in MI … 😢)
You made this documentary sound so terrifying that I HAVE to go watch it now.
I watched the documentary and it was soooo intense but I had to see it to the end.
I have to admit something... every time I donate or sell old clothes I always regret it later. I go to find something or I see it in a photo and then I am like "dang I wish I would have kept that!" ... so now I just store things in our garage so when I have that moment again I am not sad. Especially since things go in and out of fashion so quickly these days.
