For some reason, Channel swings (bends) seem to collect larger fish in the winter. So if I were you I would look for areas close to channel breaks near the humps you are talking about. Good luck!
Awesome video! I have never quite understood what a glide bait is or how it is different from a regular Rapala. Apparently I need to start dong that! Hey Don, do you know Sherri Rhodes up there in Manila? Old friend from work.
I don’t think I know her. But the main differences between Rapalas and glide baits are: glide baits I use do not have a bill. And the actually “glide” back and forth up to four or five feet at a time. And, they are basically surface baits I am in Mexico this week so I hope you receive this comment. Merry Christmas..
Another really fun video to watch. Thank you! I’m going to make my 2nd attempt at the Gorge in a week, if it doesn’t freeze. Last week we marked a lot of fish in 47-103 feet and so ended up mostly jigging. They were not very cooperative. What do you think about jigging this time of year? I also noticed you troll with your bow trolling motor. Why the electric over the kicker? Thanks again Don.
Jigging is working right now, but it is a very slow bite. A couple of my friends jigged for the big lake trout for three days for a single fish. They are great anglers too. So, as the ice approaches, the larger lakers will begin to bite deep. I plan on doing several jigging for large lake trout videos using tube jigs but I most likely won't start those until maybe April of next year. I am glad you enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas!
It depends on the area. I like flats and drop offs. If you are fishing flats the large lakers can be in 20 to 40 feet and if you are fishing drop offs, they may be from 40 to 90.
@@doafish thanks for your knowledge. I fished the same spot 3 ice seasons now. A little hump at 60 foot of water that drops to 90 foot. I always catch a few pups there, but never a fish over 2 pounds. This year I'll be camping on the ice for 3 days, so I need to pick a spot where I can sit hoping for that 1 big fish bite. In your opinion, do you think I'd have a better bite opportunity in a shallow flat 20 to 40 foot depth, or find a better drop off ledge for ice fishing?
It's really simple. I don't need to use my Garmin because I am in such shallow water. I have two other finders on my boat that pretty much shows\ what is right under my boat do to the shallow nature. If I were fishing more that 40 feet deep, the Garmin would be fine. But, in shallow water, the cone angles on both the humminbird and and Lowrance are pretty much showing me what is under the boat. Since i try to stay in 30 feet or less, no need for the Garmin. And, the Garmin sucks power. So, when it's not needed I don't turn it on.
Great video Don. Thanks for taking the time to film

Awesome! Is ice fishing for Kokanee on the Wyoming side worth it or should I wait for spring
Yes. Try the coves around Anvil and south anvil. I am in Mexico this week so I won’t be back on the water until the 33rd good luck!
@ will do! Thank you! I will let you know how it goes!
Nice morning troll Don. Peeling reel is always fun. Merry Christmas!
It never gets old. Merry Christmas!

When the ice season comes on for these bigger fish what depth in your experience has produced better for you?

What knots do you use? Fun video! Merry Christmas!!!
From the braid to the leader I use a double uni knot. From the swivel or snap, I use a palomar knot. Merry Christmas to you as well.
How big was that last fish??
26 pounds. Thanks for watching ! Merry Christmas!
Why are you not using your livescope while you’re pulling glides?
