- What's up lil biscuits?! in todays video I am reviewing James Charles new makeup brand "Painted" and before you try to come for me... y'all asked for it! I purchased the yellow shade named "caution" now I do wanna say and did say 37282 times in the video yellows are very difficult to formulate but this.... The lab making those are known for having issues and that formula is off. The Isododecane is way too high and there’s not enough silicones to balance out that formula. Can see the cracking from a mile away… You did a thorough review!

Yup, Kevin James Bennett said it’s literally not possible to change a formula a week before launch because of stability testing that takes minimum 6 weeks. So he was definitely preparing for the fall out beforehand

Manny used the brown, not the yellow though. Skelotim said himself that yellow is notoriously difficult so we don't know how the rest of them hold up. The rest could be bomb with one shitty yellow for all we know 🤷♀️
I understand yellow is hard to make, but that’s not a good excuse in my opinion. If you can’t come out with a quality product or yellow shade then don’t release it

The FDA really needs to change staining as an immediate “not safe for eye” issue. Yes customers should be told if a product is going to stain, but that doesn’t make them unsafe. They need to get more up to date, the way the EU is.
I feel like it's better to watch a review from someone who brought it with their own money as apposed to someone that got sent it free in PR... Appreciate your review Tim 🙏
He did add a warning that says "For external use only. Keep out of eyes" next to the ingredients list and then proceed to only show eye looks lmao

Lol it's because everyone knows that the FDA standards about pigments and eye safety are super old because they don't bother to approve them. They're all eye safe in Europe because the EU is more up to date on pigment eye safety standards
So many brands have products not to be used on/around eyes (labelled as pressed pigments) and still post marketing pics with products on the eyes. It’s v common in the industry!

I regularly paint, and my actual paints have clean and simple packaging too. But look so much nicer. There's so many examples from paint manufacturers of how to make this design so much better while keeping the aesthetic.

OmG!! I'd be worried that would flake off into the eyes!! When I saw James applying that in the water line, it freaked me out 😱 When I use liners in my water line, I'm always looking for a more waxy consistency. Thin liquid seems like it would mix in with the moisture in your eyes!! Also, you are SUPER handsome 💞🥰 Thank you for the review!!

There’s no reason that you should pay that much shipping for such a small product. Unless it was shipped priority, that package would have shipped first class for no more than $4.50. Not you using Manny, Jeffree and James in the same video 😂

my mom bought me the create paints without asking me first because she knows i love colorful makeup (i definitely would have said hell no) but i decided to use them and i agree with you 100%. so far i’ve used the blue, purple, red, brown, and black. i will say the brown isn’t too bad but it’s still very dry and does flake off. not to mention they do in fact transfer like crazy even when dry. i much prefer the haus labs paints or the halsey one you used in the video.
First time on your channel- first off love how honest and transparent you are. Love that you still completed the eye look even though you weren’t feeling it lol

I had a feeling these Painted liquid paints were gonna be mid. It’s a product that’s been done and perfected by so many others already so he really had a high standard to meet.

I have heard about this product and because I have sensitive skin I want to make sure I’m not sending myself straight to the dermatologist. After seeing the effects.. I just wanna say thank you. I love that you talk so fast. I’ve NEVER seen you before but the second you started speaking I thought “Im’a watch this guy”. I normally watch a lot of UA-cam videos on double speed as so many ppl talk so slowly and drag on but finally, someone who speaks at my speed.

My 2 cents - feel free to disregard but giving it here since I know you like doing more with your videos - for future videos like these, I think it would help drive the point home if you do one eye with the James Charles one and the other eye with the About Face one
Honestly when these were announced I already started comparing them to the About-Face ones. These just look really bad, look really dry when they dry down, and they are cracking all over the place. The fact that he openly posted the video from launch day with a look that was cracking completely just says everything. Even with cracking when it comes to About-Face, these suckers stay all day on me. I don't know, I think James is just jumping on the bandwagon and no one has given very honest reviews. So thank you for doing an honest review!

I really enjoyed the one by Danessa Myricks. I haven't used the yellow yet, but I did a look with layering a duo chrome over a dark purple from her and no creasing or crumbling. I guess I'll try something yellow next.
I think the applicator you spoke of was the urban decay eyeshadow primer one (at least the one from 2015, was a tube with a smaller applicator.)

I totally relate to the packaging frustration.. I’m repotting my glinsten spectra paints into smaller lipgloss containers to have a doe foot! Might also repot my plouise bases as well if they turn out good!
The Urban Decay Primer Potion has a tube and a doe foot if I’m not mistaken? That would’ve been the perfect packaging for this type of product

I got curious and looked on the website. He's using dyes that are not approved for use around the eye area (because reactions can occur) but he doesn't specifically say which shades are using these dyes. Each color does say keep out of eyes. It seems like he's hoping that and the "discontinue if irritation occurs" will cover him if someone has a reaction to the dyes.
I’ve been a sub for like a year and a half maybe and I can’t believe this is the first time I’m seeing you apply eye makeup. The product may suck but you’re so talented! Omg do more eyeshadow looks please ❤ and I would LOVE to see these compared, I’m already planning on buying some from About Face because you will never catch me supporting that creepo but would still love to see how they compare! Thank you for an actually honest review on these. After seeing Manny’s I was so annoyed because it did not look cute and I don’t get why he blamed it on his vitiligo 😂
I appreciate you taking one for the team and giving us a real review without being in his circle of friends. That being said, I'm glad the products suck because I could not bring myself to support him. I have a son, and I love and support his life, but the idea that grown men can do to little boys and get away with it when we take it so serious when done to girls just upsets. Boys need to be protected from predators too. So yeah, glad you tried it so we didn't have too. And glad its not anything I'm going to lose sleep over if I don't buy any of it.

ngl I think it's funny that this is the second time that James has had an issue regarding his eye products staining. What makes his formulation so different? Cos so many other products are pressed pigments but you don't really hear about those other brands causing staining.

My favorite is still forever the Danessa Myricks colorfix in yellow. I don't mind the applicator because it's easier to keep clean. She started with those for MUAs so it makes sense... but they're not super easy to use. They last forever and don't crack tho.

I would say I'm medium good at makeup. Definitely not a beginner but no where near professional at all. I don't understand this launch honestly. It seems like this is more for professionals or people who do artsy looks, not the everyday makeup user. I would never spend my money on this. Watching just to support you! ❤
I agree it screams editorial product. What beginners or kids (which make up the majority of his audience) are trying to take paint to their lids on avg day? This was a terrible launch product. It also just looks cheap Michaels product

if you have the white from halsey you could always try mixing the two, so then if you do compare it to the james you can have a closer color match
I think it would be a nice is idea to have a close up camera, because so far away I can't tell the issues you are mentioning. That's all. Thanks for the honest review. I literally thought his product was mediocre too since I own the about face paints.
Hi Tim! Thanks for all your content (2nd channel too!) Could you do a video on PMG changing her Mothership packaging to plastic and reducing the content? I've never seen a brand go straight downhill as quickly before.
Because just in the world of pigments and making makeup, powder pigments and powdered dyes usually pink is not safe depending on the type of dye you're using. Red is usually fine especially because it is a primary color people formulate it differently or you can use a natural mineral like red ochre so it's much easier to get an all natural red even if you're using a produced red dye but pinks are usually more unsafe for the eye area at least in the USA, or they use like a bright chemical radioactive pink or something in the formulation. Just FYI since I may cosmetologist and I enjoy making my own makeup
It's funny how Brazil is not that developed in terms of makeup, but there's this brand that probably has the best liquid eyeshadow in the world, and it started years ago. It's called Bruna Tavares BT Velvets
