Doesn't really work like that, unfortunately. For easy numbers, 4 thrusters at 100% and 5 thrusters at 80% use the same amount of power, and the thrust is automatically regulated.
Can't fully speak to this without knowing your world settings, mod list, or altitude (yes, that matters a lot), but I've had a similar argument with at least twenty different individuals on the SE discord over the years. Not every miner needs to be able to carry its full, loaded mass when the drills are pointed directly down at the ground. Vertical miners do, and they're mechanically more efficient in most ways. This is a horizontal miner, it's designed to be used a different way. If you use it like a vertical miner, it'll fall. If you try to use a vertical miner to mine into a wall, you'd get the same effect. It's also designed more or less at a low altitude, so it gets most of the theoretical maximum thrust. If you try to use it at a high altitude, you're going to get horrible performance. This is a completely fair response for your style of use and location, but the cool thing about a tutorial is it's not supposed to be the "best", just a starting point. You've identified a failing... this is SE. Take what I showed you, and engineer a better one for you!
yeah we were brand new to the game and using it very wrong. I thought it was supposed to be able to dig tunnels into the ground, but we ended up using it to take layers of stone off the side of mountains which made us rich in iron@@odysseygaming214
I am new to the game and build this. The problem is i play in space and did not know i needed an o2 generator. Can you tell me how i could add one to the finished build?
Hey, welcome to the game! Unfortunately, there's no easy way to adapt dedicated atmospheric ships for space, and this was designed pretty exclusively for atmospheric mining on planets. The good news is that you don't need an O2 generator. In space, as long as you're sticking close to your starter ship, just grab the O2 bottle from your ship. That will genuinely last you a while in the miner, and you can refill when you get back. If you want to build a space miner then you can re-use some of what I did here, but keep in mind you're building something different for a different purpose. I'd recommend going drills > cockpit/fighter cockpit (doesn't matter except for resources) > O2 generator attached to the cockpit > Cargo system, repurposing the Thruster Components from the starter ship for small ion engines. I've been pretty successful with a single large cargo container and 3-4 ion engines in all directions, so it's not that expensive, just keep in mind that those are the only thruster comps you get for a while. You'll also need at least one big, small-grid battery and a connector.
Question: My ships in the past would nose down easily but have trouble nosing back up for flight home. It seems we should have two more vertical thrusters up front to help with that. Am I wrong?
So, this is a bit... more complicated than you might think. SE doesn't actually take weight balance into account, everything (including thrust and weight) happens at exactly the center of mass (unless something changed). The actual position of the thrusters means absolutely nothing. What likely happened is you kept the mass in the front of the ship, shifting the center of mass forwards. This might make it feel like you aren't nosing up as easily. Another theory is that you have subgrids/klang doing weird things, or a loose item in the front of the ship (rocks fell, scrap from damaged armor, etc.). Those do act where they are instead of at the CoM. Then there's mods, mods will also do that if you pick the right ones.
Not a bad idea... might re-visit the Let's Build format I used to do, been... kinda burned out a bit from work, hence being REALLY slow on uploads, but... a quick Let's Build for a fighter might not be a bad idea. We'll see if I get a weekend with energy.
So... I wish I could say yes. But the difference between this and that is that for that one, you just take the concepts I'm teaching and scale it up. Build the internals, add thrusters, do a bit of decorative armor to taste, and you're good to go.
I'm new to the game and I'm building this ship. But I ran into one tiny issue. You are installing an item called an ejector. I searched all blocks both in the Blocks and the Progression tab and cannot find an extractor anywhere in my list of items. Is this a mod??
Hey, welcome to Space Engineers! Nope, vanilla but outdated. Until a few updates ago, the Small Connector was known as an "Ejector". It didn't connect, just ejected.
@@odysseygaming214 Thanks for the fast response. I am building the ship today and one thing you missed in your video (for new people) is you cannot set M in the build screen unless you are in the Advanced Tools mode. Great video and I'm definitely following it. My last two ships were failures on the first trip out. Hoping for an improvement here.
@@odysseygaming214 Okay...one more beginner question! After the ship lifts off you got rid of the stuff you built on top of without a grinder. What is the key combination for that? I assume another Advanced Tool thing. When I make a mistake on my ship I'm swimming in parts I grind off and prefer not to do that!
@@odysseygaming214 So I noticed that when you first started flying the ship your batteries were at full charge. Mine are at 25% charge. Is there another part of Advanced Tool that gives the batteries full charge...or was that just a film edit.
@@odysseygaming214 Okay, never mind. I just discovered building in Creative mode!!! But I still need to know how to delete parts when building without a grinder.
@@odysseygaming214 That's good, putting that aside the video was great, your design looks nice, and idk if this happened with you, but for me the batteries dont seem to charge, is this an issue you fixed in the other parts? or is it just a bug im facing?
I actually liked learning why you decided to make the changes. Knowing the thought process for creating systems is very useful. I had to flip the large thrusters so it'll pull out vertically. I can't seem to make a miner that'll stay airborne lol so hopefully your design ideas help me. Thanks man!
A suggestion is to have one up thruster on the off position then when it starts to Fall because of the weight turn it on🤔
Doesn't really work like that, unfortunately. For easy numbers, 4 thrusters at 100% and 5 thrusters at 80% use the same amount of power, and the thrust is automatically regulated.
my friend and I built this thing but it mines slower than our handheld drills, doesn;t have enough backwards thrust and falls down if tilted forward

you should do a fighter type ship

Can't stand videos with blaring intro music and the near inaudible voice...
Me to
Jesus fuck man edit out shit when you wanna change it, having to redo the ejectors 3 times, probably 4 is ridiculous
I appreciate the feedback, but this is an old video. Very old. I eventually learned this in a different series.
