Exciting times for Sharpe fans. A new Sharpe book called Sharpe's Assassin by Bernard Cornwell is coming out in September 2021. (I can't wait to read it) Hope Sean Bean returns to the role one last time!!
i am going to have to buy them all again as i bet this new one wont have the same cover style as the ones i already have and it look out of place of my shelf
At this stage I'm feeling like one of Pavlov's dogs, gradually being trained to press buttons at 3pm on a Sunday instead of 5pm on a Thursday. And - on to the video!
I just love this show, I've watched since I was a kid on itv and my dad recording it on vhs for me if I'd fallen asleep. In my 30s and I still watch the while series at least once a year in DVD
Interesting that Daragh says here that he read the books. I've read an interview somewhere where he said he *didn't* read the books - he'd get a little way into each one then get really annoyed because the dialogue in the books was so much better than what they were given to say on the show.
Maybe the interview where he says he didn't read the books was earlier, and this filmed interview was later, after he had read the books. Or maybe by "reading" the books, he means getting a little way into each one - ie reading part of the books.
Sgt Hakeswell called him "Sharpie", and I don't think he'd respond well to the name being used anywhere else(yeah, I know it's just a show, but COME ON, everyone knows Sharpe is as REAL as the minds of his fans can make him!) Besides, "Sharpie" is a copywritten name for a bunch of marker pens
Very interesting, but why do they keep putting these false names like "Sean Bean" and "Daragh O'Malley" over Sharpe, Harper, and the rest? Some sort of deep cover?
great to see new content being uploaded, specially Behind The Scenes 🤓 , even though it seems like (other users have mentioned): "dvd's extras' plundering" Also I really think they shouldn't add the novels description of Sharpe to any of these clips. We all know Sean Bean is blonde, please don't remind us Bernard Cornwell didn't write the novels with him in mind 🤷
Cornwell has said in iterviews after seeing Sean Bean as Sharpe he rewrote the charater in later books to better fit Sean as he emboided the chararter so well
I can watch anything Sharpe, been watching since first airing on tv. Whenever I see Sean Bean - I just think of Major Sharpe, watched Game of Thrones….it’s Maj Sharpe , 😂🤣
@@1Loftwing1 in a behind the scenes interview, sean bean explains how they wanted to tie a rope to him for the fall, but mark strong refused and instead wanted to really die to make the scene convincing. super dedicated actor. RIP
As I recall, the previous actor complained about the poor filming conditions in Ukraine: in particular, he caught a very nasty amoebic bug and received pretty poor healthcare whilst there, so he refused to go back
I loved the show BUT after you read the books you see that they did the books a diservice. A great show but I think a bigger budget would have been better. Some "battles" in the show look more like skirmishes while in the book its MASSIVE .
I think half the charm is the low budget. It's obvious it's the same 20 blokes in every fight and they use the same locations constantly, but because of the acting and atmosphere if you squint it feels convincing. But i do enjoy spotting the crap extras, occasional rubbish props and mistakes.
Obviously agree in the sentiment.. i would love it with a bigger budget.. but this wasn't during the golden age of tv.. considering the budgets they had to do this kind of thing, they did a remarkable job...
I dont think the show did the books a disservice at all. They did fantastic with the budget they had. I think the budget they were given was the only negative thing from this series.
~ 7:30 : They talk about Harper. He's one of my favorite characters. The ever present working man's "Aide-de-Camp" to Sharp... who is loyal to the end. I love his 7 Barrel Nock Gun. What's funny is how Harper often uses it for more than 1 Shot during a battle!!! .. I mean... They MUST take forever to reload?!?!!!! .. 🤔🫢😲🤣👍🎉

Then I'd say we have one last mission, lads! Who do we have to mount our greatest campaign against to make this happen?
Only if they're going to use some de-aging. Sharpe's assassin is set right after the battle of Waterloo.

Sadly I don't think it'll happen.
Running out of clips, so uploading the first part of a documentary. That's bonus-feature-DVD plundering.
Not plundering. Soldiering. We're not pirates ;)
@@SandmanGotBeer Chosen men are men of honour.
Uploading a Sharpe video every Sunday. Now that's soldiering
I guess these are our little "reunions" lol
Uploading Sharpe content even though you’ve already completed the whole series. Now *THAT’S* Soldiering
Damn! you beat me to the draw! Now THAT'S smouldering!
8:18 harper and sharpe sharing cigarettes, lighting up for one another. i love the sight
I'm so glad I saw this...I love this show. Quite the production.
The casting of all the main actors in the series was so spot on - so many perfect characterisations.
Sigh, i guess i'm digging out my box set of dvds again then... already been through them twice this year ha
honestly the peak of my sundays.
The one thing that I would love to see is funny outtakes
Sean bean is a treasure

Lol. Around 8 mins in and they're just chilling , punching darts. Awesome.😅
I love this show, I love Sharpe and Patrick Harper!

Doing the setup work ahead of time, and casting properly are a good start to any series.

*That’s Directing*
I'd love to see a compilation of bloopers
4:48. I don’t know why this made my giggle so much 😂

I can't find anything wrong with ANY OF THIS !!! BEST SERIES !!!
The cast is perfect in this show
That's soldiering
That's filmmaking.
So, as Sharpe fans, do we call ourselves Sharpies? I am not taking "no" for an answer.
"Chosen Men"? I didn't chose ya...

Its as natural as nature
Sept may needs a cast 9f thousands of extras !!!!
Horses, guns, cannons now that's soldiering.

Yes.
Think of British Army Field Marshal Officer Sir Arthur Wellesley His Grace The 1st Duke of Wellington.
What Sharpe Collection has this Behind The Scenes episode ?

I love the fact that later novels seemingly drop certain characters and features to actually leave it more open to be Sean Bean and Daragh

Is this on the blu ray collection?
Now we'll finally know how they got Mark Strong out of the well
I like to think he died down there
@@1Loftwing1 in a behind the scenes interview, sean bean explains how they wanted to tie a rope to him for the fall, but mark strong refused and instead wanted to really die to make the scene convincing. super dedicated actor. RIP
[Q why is our SUN, always so sad when he wakes up?
[A] because he is in MORNING
Does anybody know why they changed the actor of Wellington? I thougt David Troughton did a good job!
Scheduling conflicts maybe.
As I recall, the previous actor complained about the poor filming conditions in Ukraine: in particular, he caught a very nasty amoebic bug and received pretty poor healthcare whilst there, so he refused to go back
@@Thelionpaladin interesting.
True but Hugh Fraser looks more similar to Wellington

Clearly they hired the screenwriter because his name is Harris, and he doesn't have a (pronounceable) first name.
Dude this guy really just call Napoléon the Stalin of his time? Wtf seriously?
