      I'd say it definitely maintains your essence and the format I think works great for a review style video like this; I barely noticed the difference to be honest.
      Would still like to see you in front of the camera like your normal style videos from time to time though :)

      I prefer it to be honest, so tired of having to look at someones face while they're staring at a screen, normally they're uncomfortably close to the camera so on my screen it just feels like they're way to close to my face. Notice it alot more these days with so many streamers and youtubers having their face all over their videos.

    The idea of players combining plots to create settlements, towns, cities, etc to unlock more building potential is a great one. Maybe they could even add the “settlement” onto the map as well. A lot of potential for this game.

      Literally every MMO has considered doing this and it doesnt work. What happens when you join a few years late when there is no land available.
      only way this works if its like RUST and not an mmo

    There was another reactor that said during crafting players should be able to go into other menus in order to plan your next move rather than having to sit there and watch crafting all the time. I think that would be a good idea to implement.

    I don't how you'll maintain long-term persistence on a game like this when the world loses all its landmass to people building over it all.

      A good way this can be managed is either through rapid structure decay to unattended structures. It's more or less how Rust keeps their maps clean, even if they wipe. Abandoned bases will usually fizzle out in a little more than a days time.

      This is my biggest worry with the game. I haven't played Rust but decaying buildings makes sense. You need some sort of decay (Ashes of Creation is planning to do this with node wars/destruction) to avoid bloat.

      As I understand it, although there is no pvp in home valleys, a plot left unattended for a set amount of time will become unbounded. Allowing player to loot and remove buildings.

    Am I the only one who would like this game to have flying mounts, with dragons being super rare! Inspired from the book Eragon. Also the ability to become a vampire or werewolf or perhaps both, a hybrid would be nice! Kinda like the mods sacrosanct and moonlight tales from Skyrim or elder scrolls online. Also a creature taming system would be awesome.

    I think the feedback here is all solid. With a decent combat system and even half of the changes Narc has suggested it could be a very compelling play for survival nerds like my girlfriend.

    This game looks awesome. I have never seen a game with such graphics and scale in a single player let alone a mmorpg. It's actually next gen.

    I love crafting and building. But my concern is after I build my house and level up my crafting, what keeps me interested in playing this game? (Tree harvesting is better in Pax Dei than AoC).

      nope, currently in this build, even if you place a claim on a tree, and place foundations over the freespawn, it will continue to respawn directly inside your foundation.
      (likely an alpha bug but yeah)

      I like the idea of being able to incorporate the natural surroundings into your build, maybe a courtyard with trees or something along those lines. @@Narc

    there is a massive problem with Pax dei and that is there are two types of people in the game, the builders and the pvpers, this game is a heavy mix of both people who want to build but not lose their homes
    then there are people who want to raid towns and kill mobs to have fun ultimately the pvpers will run out the PvE player lowering the player base [mortal online]
    when the players have no one to grief the game will die. the reason Rust is successful is because you know what you are getting into It is a hardcore PVP game and always stay in their lane as that.
    then you have pvx players that like a mix of combat and building and probably the first player base to leave the game, no one wants to play a game they spend 200hrs building up for one asshole to ruin it.
    you could have no offline raiding but then this game becomes a PVE game where no one will PVP and avoid all fights then you have the PVP players leave
    on top of this you have Zergs, like the bald one that had over 100 members good luck fighting that this also brings power into the game people forcing rule and tax's etc
    I think it is a nice game but Doom to fail you just can't have PVP players in a PvE game, the game is all about group content solo'ing in this game is just dumb even the devs said it was meant to be played in a group.
    there has never been a game where pvpers and PvE players get along I don't know how you keep a game alive like this where grief people is more fun and sharing and building together
    and yes I get it it's alpha but it will be the same Bs as every survival game. I do hope I am wrong and the dev finds a way but we have to see.

      Why does there have to be a delineation between builders and PvP players? That's so strange to me. People who build will have to step up and defend their stuff. And people who PvP will have to build things so they can have the resources to PvP. There's clearly a huge emphasis in this game on territory control. That necessitates PvP. Or do you actually think people are just going to be satisfied building houses and crafting areas until they run out of game space? Clearly there's the same focus on conflict within this game that you also see in Eve Online. That's sandbox gaming in a nutshell. The world is dangerous and you must protect yourself. Risk it in the lower security regions for greater rewards or remain safe in high security areas. The conflict, risk, and reactivity from fellow players is what makes the game compelling. If you want a consequence free game, you have plenty of options. Can't we have at least one other game that allows sandbox PvP that isn't Eve Online? Why do Carebares feel their needs matter more than PvPer's? Why do they want every game to be their hugbox? Why can't you just go play WoW, or FFXIV, or ESO?

    I dont think that mmorpg with this system of building will be great. Imagine how the world will be after some time, if everyone will build, It will be mess like some minecraft server. It's my opinion but I think that, this sort of games need wipe after some time, so you will grinding hard to get maxed everything and then lose everything or (if not) you will play in in ugly full of structures world. But maybe I am wrong and it will be best mmo... who knows... Wish luck to all people behind this project.

    If its not fun don’t put it in your game. Sure, all of these mechanics mmos give us these days have a purpose but they can still be fun. If its not fun… dont do it. Wasting my time doing boring content to achieve some function is pointless and the fastest way to have me move along.

      7000 players per server is an MMO mate i dunno wtf to tell you.
      You can't have private servers, you can't make custom servers with custom gathering rates. You can't do any of the things you can do in conan exiles to hasten the gameplay.
      please get over it.

    Very much agree with all your points, especially the one about needing an established group to even begin having fun. If you're essentially gate-kept out of playing the game because you don't have a meta guild to play with, then Pax Dei will fizzle out like all the others before it no matter how good the rest of the game may end up being. Some people develop a sense of pride in playing games that aren't easy to get into, but reality is that accessibility is one of the most important factors when it comes to sustaining a playerbase.

    I love the building/crafting side of this alpha test. This game looks amazing and has huge potential. I do hope they find a way to get combat to feel right (hard to pull off).

    Didn't realize this game was anti-solo. It's so bizarre that MMO developers still haven't accepted that a huge demographic of people exists who play MMOs solo not because they want it to be a single-player, but because they want to play it on their own terms.

    Very valid feedback, failing multiple very easy and trivial crafts that alone probably cost you 20h+ of your alpha testing time most people seeing this will just hard pass on the game as wasting player's time nowadays is taboo and players will just go play something else and not waste a week's leisure time on.

      He solo’d trying to do everything himself which isn’t the design of the game. You’re supposed to rely on other players . Doesn’t mean you need to be in a guild for that. It’s a player driven economy for a reason. You can’t have everyone be able to do everything themselves.

      People do everything themselves all the time. Way more wholesome of a life. I myself started homesteading to be more self sufficient. I’m not all the way there yet but it’s a better life for me than before when I relied on supermarkets and everyone else for everything including work

    I said the grind was to much within seconds of watching your last video. It’s actively sabotaging its own audience by making this game a clan only game. Cry about it if you want but SOLO PLAYERS KEEP GAMES ALIVE ashes should take note as well. If the game doesn’t improve its crafting system it will die within months no matter how pretty it looks.

    Love your idear around settlement and player vendors, I wish that would be implemented. would be a great way to get singleplayers to still work together.
    Then change stamina and holding buttons while chopping, it's useless and only annoying. Fine with stamina when sprinting, but not while gathering stuff.
    Lastly change the crafting as you mentioned. No need to sit there and wait for hours. Those things make games annoying in the long run.

    Nice and truthfull review, I am so glad someone agrees that holding a button staring at rock is NOT the same as playing a game. I wish pax dei to become the most succesfull crafting game by making the gathering more fun. If you don't mind my 2 cents, if gathering was a process where you hire npc's and a vehicle you had to escort to go get resources, that would make it a lot more interesting and be a game loop you wouldn't mind repeating while adding some tactical gameplay and not just pressing a button.

    Are you kidding me. My plan is to dig tunnels and form an underground civilization of deformed and pale humans (since there are only humans playable) and make raids and incursions into the surface kingdoms. Like the Skaven in Warhammer or the Falmor in Elder Scrolls.

    I mean with how bad a lot of early access games are people have ever right to think it's all bullshit till they see the final product, it's hard to trust this to turn out any better than the rest for some. I'm kinda neutral, although the fact solo play just seems to be no fun at all i'm not to fussed about the game myself.

    I like the social features you mentioned, building system is the best one out of all mmo is existing atm, but I hope also to see an option of free build / with player created ready to use building blue print too.
    1) for example i can put each block piece by piece, enable me to create some crazy shape of the buildings, but in the same same time there are some players created mod which is the whole ready to plug in building , just 1 click and place the blue print on the plot of lands, what i need to do is gather and fill in the mats.
    2) different region different building style (idk how large the map is, or how are servers going to connect with each other, all all map(srv) look like the same , like MoE) , but if the regions in the big world were unique, I hope they can add "regional" features, where building style, fashions, culture, mats are slightly different
    3) (again if the map is big enough), kingdom / flag system shold be applied, for example you have your main base control by a guild, but you can take control of another villages, cities, tribe of NPC and vasslise em, generate income and mats, also indicate on the world map that, those lands are within your "kingdom". also when you PVP and destroy enemy guild, you can also put the enemy base under your control (without consum more like monument) , serve like NPC , you can change the name of the base , etc ... to give rewards of the winner
    4) ple don't create PVE connect with PVP server shits like MoE did... lol which is exploitable by PVP rats who put everything in the PVE zone, and PVE zone should be be slow progression, less mats gathering, and have to go out of PVE, into PVP zone for trade, or gather higher Q , special mats etc
    5) set the tone of the game, is it PVE or PVP focus? even for both but dev must take a side what kind of custmer they want the most and please them, you can't ple everyone as far as my explerience of playing few famous title of MMO survivial, PVE always accuse PVP toxic player who destroy their claim in the PVP zone, and PVP can't do anything to against rat play in PVP but craft in PVE zone, don't make the mistake again lol , and don't split player base to different unconnectable server, server have to be in the one big world.

    I wasnt part of the Alpha, but it seemed like no matter what part of the map someone was in, they could reliably get any resource that they needed in order to build/craft. Which kind of makes trading irrelevant. It would be better imo if different areas had higher access to different mats, which would create a need for trade or a friction between those who have easy access and those who don't, therefore creating some early PVP opportunities.
    (I know these systems aren't fleshed out, but it is just something that worries me given how empty parts of the game seem atm)

    What I’m worried about is not being able to find my own plot of land for a small private home (I wouldn’t mind being part of a player town, just want my own home). When I played Ultima Online back in the late 90’s, I was so damn frustrated with trying to get my own plot of land. Buying a home wasn’t so bad, but finding a place to put it down was basically impossible. Archaeage was pretty bad, but somehow I got lucky and managed to get my own spot…in the most PVP heavy area of my server.

    Let me just preface this with I didn't get into the alpha (not salty lol) but i've been very interested to see how this game is coming along.
    So yeah I agree with many of your points, being able to link plots up together to unlock larger building schematics is a brilliant idea. The game should reward group play but also be easy for solo players to jump in and have fun and maybe contribute to the local community.
    The ability to have larger farming specific buildings that take up multiple plots like a large grain field with a windmill node for processing grain would be cool.
    Maybe even terrain specific schematics such as a water wheel that can be buiilt on river side plots.
    The idea of building directly from a plot wide storage container would be a massive quality of life improvement.
    The failure chance for item crafting should be changed to a quality difference, crafting an item above your skill level should use up more material and produce a worse product, but crafting something very easy should use the bare minimum (or less) material and give it a superior quality.
    Skilled crafters would've been precise and wasted no material and produced high quality products!
    The crafting/gathering system in Black Desert Online would be a really good inspiration to pull ideas from. (not the gatcha failchance system!)
    You can get special items from gatherables, which would make things abit more interesting and enticing for gatherers. Being able to get sap and eggs and fruit/seeds from trees and bushs would be good to see in game.
    Something similar for rocks/ore might include crystal fragments, sharpened stone chips and maybe fossils for some lore reason.
    As for automating processing activities it could be a bonus for those larger plots mentioned, windmills and waterwheels, horse/donkey mill could be used automate many basic tasks.
    The idea to reset servers every four to 6months might be a good idea if it's implemented well, maybe a server event like hordes of corrupted beasts belched from caves that target player settlements. If they players can fight them off they can keep what they have.
    Throw a few dragons in their to burn shit to the ground too.
    Anyway, look forward to see where this game goes, hopefully it just gets better and better.

    In my opinion, you’re viewing the solo play experience incorrectly. You’re not meant to do everything yourself, but that doesn’t mean you need to be in a guild. It just means you need to rely on other players instead of being totally self sufficient. The game is designed as a total player driven economy for a reason. You’re not meant to have to do gather all resources, process and craft all items yourself.

      Features that would support a wider player economy, like local player-stocked vendors, local task boards, local drop-chests, etc., aren't in, but might be part of the plan already.

      I plan on building a completely self sufficient empire undergrad with the soul purpose of rising to the surface and invading the surface world. My favorite part will be creating demented humans and crafting evil looking weapons specific to my creepy underworld.

      the only thing they have eluded to so far is "paid accounts"

    Sadly, I can see it will turn into a PvP RUST crap fest. Large guilds will rule everyone. There is no incentive to NOT grief new players and smaller groups. It takes so long to get anywhere that no one is going to grind out the first 10 levels of anything to have it taken/destroyed in 5 minutes. Well, ok, some players might do it, but likely they love RUST already... LOL

    Can't believe how terrible this combat is, I mean come on the animations hdwuhduwah. Okay, now that I have added 1 iQ point. This game actually looks decent. I appreciate you using rust as an example when talking about hitting a specific part of a node. I've always had a controversial opinion on gathering in mmorpgs. There will always eventually be a time where bots will sneak past initial systems and start gathering tons just like in New World because of the lack of function to gathering itself. They will always be able to find the node, whether its wood, ore, etc with screen scanners. The key issue is to make it more rewarding for active players. So like Rust, you get more material when you hit a certain spot, but I actually think in an mmorpg this needs more additional mechanics to balance the gathering gameplay loop. Obviously this takes up a lot more work for developers and will create scepticism for players that like simple gathering but the way I see it is bots will always eventually come in and ruin any type of in game economy and destroy the longevity of the game.

    I don't want to process materials in a second, and yes, I want to be able to fail when crafting, people today would like everything right away. I don't want a game where you get the best thing in the game in a few days guaranteed crafting. If you succeed in crafting later, you will enjoy it much more.

    You begin by chastising users for not appreciating this for the alpha it is... but then go on to criticize many things that are probably temporary due to current state of the game. 😏 For instance... they only have small areas right now, right? If they made the gathering/crafting 10x faster, the map would be clogged with buildings in the first couple hours. I'm only guessing here. That may also hold true for the failure rates... they're probably slowing everyone down on purpose.

      Ditto with social features... heck, that's probably one of the things they won't even bother with until core mechanics are more fleshed out.

    honestly this game has the potential to be great. I just hope they dont take years upon years (chronicles of elyria and ashes im looking at you) to show some progress, also not rush the game to look like a polished turd. High hopes for this and wishing the best! Thanks narc!
