as someone from Basel Country it was so exciting to see Basel in a video! thank you for visiting and showing! I hope you enjoyed it and consider coming again! Also, fun fact, the Münster Church you walked past (on the Münsterplatz) was built in 1019, so its over 1000 years old!
Wow amazing! Thank you for the information on the church. It was so beautiful. We really enjoyed our time in Basel and would love to come back one day. Thank you for watching 😊
The building you wondered what it might be is actually the city hall that, by 2022, is about 520 years old. Since Basel is not only a city but also a canton (together with Riehen and Bettingen next to it), it also houses the canonal governement and parlament.
Im an international student in Canada right now but I was born and raised in Basel, and right now this video gave me such a familiar vibe I almost teared up. Especially through Christmas time I miss my family and friends soo much and you just gave me a little bit of my home back. I really appreciate this beautiful video and I hope you enjoyed the Christmas market as much as I always did ❤️
Aww that’s so nice! We had such a great time in Basel for the Christmas markets. We are so glad the video brought back good memories.😊 It’s a wonderful place. Thank you for watching.
This video and others in the series are so helpful, well done and entertaining! And now discovering the blogs - thank you for making this all available!
Since I tuned into you guys at Colmar and then Strasbourg (enjoyed those) I went back to this one in Basel to "catch up" - even though I see you have already added your most recent video. I'll have to view that in just a little while. I like these and am subscribing now. Thanks for these!!!
A little tip: If you can, combine your trip to the Basler Weihnachtsmarkt with a Panto performance by the Basel English Panto Group. They take place early December just between the markets at Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz and together with the Market, make a really beautiful outing to Basel.
Thank you! We took the train into Zurich, but then we walked to each market instead of taking the trains or trams. We noticed there were tram stops near the outside of most market locations
Pork and apple sauce... Yeah, it makes sense. There are many recipes combining these two. I'm writing from Spain and this is definitely a thing... Not odd at all. Your dad knows well.
Hi. I love watching your videos . Thank you for sharing. I’ve been on a quest to find your fab bow earrings and I have failed. By the way love this year’s earrings as well. Please share ☺️☺️have a merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you so much for watching! They are from Target but they are from last years so they dont have the same ones, but here they are with red and gold at Target. shopstyle.it/l/b5C7x Merry Christmas 😊
I plan on doing this exact same trip next year. THANK YOU so much for this AMAZING content! Would you recommend specific weeks to go? I mean, end of november, beginning of december....
Thank you so much! We would suggest going mid - December. We went in late November. It was definitely a marathon trip, but we hit lots of Christmas markets. If you need help with your planning we have blogs on each market that we traveled to on our website. andrewandkait.com/category/journeys/christmas-markets/ Thanks for watching!
Great video. So question we too will be in Basel for the 2024 Christmas Markets. I'm wondering about the other side of the river? Did you guys spend anytime over on that side of town. I think I read that there are many, many small quaint Christmassy restaurants and such over there? Just wondering?
Was at the Basel Christmas market yesterday. But too many people. Couldn't look at anything comfortably. Think you were there under the Week😇nice Video. DANKE 🥰
Yes, we went on opening day so the crowds were lighter than the weekend. The rest of the markets we visited on the weekend were very busy. Thanks for watching 😊
Those potato pancakes are really THE best. Chrisp outside, soft but NOT mashed inside. The garlic sauce variation is actually with sour cream. So you can mix salty and sweet.
OK, another question... how about prices? Switzerland is at the top of the most expensive European countries, if not #1 then top #3. Any pricing references for the food and drink at the market, please?
Yes! We have a cost breakdown on our blog for each Christmas market and what to expect to pay for common items. andrewandkait.com/basel-christmas-markets/ Enjoy 😊
Hi Dari! The Basel Christmas markets opened on November 24th this year. Basel is a great place to visit we highly recommend it. We wrote a full blog on everything you might need to know about Basel on our website andrewandkait.com/2022/11/25/basel-christmas-markets/ Happy planning. If you have any more questions let us know 😊🎄🇨🇭
Unfortunatly you show basicly whan one can eat on a christmasmarket ! It's a pity because you could show a lot of artisanal products for christmas and a little bit more of the old city ! I'm a cyticen from Basel .... thank you anyway for the Basel Christmas-Market-video and I hope you have a nice journy through Europe 🤗
We enjoyed our visit! The goal of this trip and video was to strictly see and showcase the Christmas markets this time of year, but it definitely inspired us to want to revisit to see and share more of your beautiful city in the future. ♥️
Hi! Our hotel was called The Passage it was a walkable distance to the markets and had a very friendly staff. Here is our guide to Basel to help you plan😊. andrewandkait.com/2022/11/25/basel-christmas-markets/ Thank you for watching! If you have any questions feel free to ask.
I don’t speak much German, but I think the moose (reindeer?) are singing: Lustig, lustig, tralalalala! Bald ist Nikolausabend da, bald ist Nikolausabend da! Translation: Funny, funny, tralalalala! St. Nicholas Eve will be here soon, St. Nicholas evening will be here soon!
Watching your 3rd video today. I m also fond of traveling and been to a few places in Europe and Asia. It should be great to see each other going to different places and exploring the world. Let me add your IG . May be I will DM you

@@AndrewandKait I love that you misstook it for a church. 😆
Haha it was dark and we couldn’t really see the paintings or sculptures, but it was beautiful like a church. 😂
Nice ambient video ! Greetings from Basel 🙂

Great video. Thank you. CAn you tell me is the train system from Zurich to the markets difficult to navigate?

We didn't visit those markets, but they do likely have smaller markets around the city.

Macaroni and cheese with apple sauce is the bomb. That’s one of my American ideas.
You have Missed the Best Food at the Complete Basler Christmas Market, The "Chäsbängel", A Baguette filled with Fondue-Cheese 😍❤️
We got that in Zürich! Couldn’t miss it! 🙌🏻 Yum

"Pork chops and applesauce." Peter Brady trying to sound like Humphrey Bogart...

Most likely later in mid to late December! When we went the last week of November it wasn’t cold enough for snow yet
