I didn't expect a dlc, I really do love this game. Probably one of the sleeper hits for me. There's some areas of the game where I wish it was expanded but all and all great game. So I guess, I'll be waiting for the patches.
This update and DLC was the last thing mentioned in their road map which was announced in June, hopefully they keep updating this game.
Their only other main game, Northgard, has many DLC's.
I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to make them for Wartales.

Been looking forward to this DLC since it was announced. The base game was already fun and kept me hooked in for awhile, as did Battle Brothers. Troop managing games just scratch a certain itch.
What's the difference for battle brothers
Never finished this game... I found it too repetitive after a while, but I really liked the 30h or so that I put on it
I decided to check this out when it dropped on gamepass and so glad i did became one of my favorite games of the year. Ill def be getting this dlc.

I found the combat to be incredibly boring. Hindered my enjoyment a bit.
Did they do anything to speed up the combat?
I finished this game when it came out but towards the end the combat felt very tedious, especially having to set up each individual unit before the fight.
What level should you be when heading to the archipelago in region-locked mode?
I just bought this game yesterday; it's been on my radar since it released. I can't wait to get in and play it; I'm going to be Yogi the Pirate bear LOL !
I've still got this on my wishlist for some reason. Probably due to Mort's coverage, which is great stuff.
The apparent lack of a strong story campaign backbone is a major concern for me in this [ok most] kind of game.
But undead knights going after undead king Arthur seems to be working out while accumulating RT post-release patches. So everything works out nicely.
Wartales was never a strong story thing. Its just a sandbox.

This game could be excellent if the devs released modding support/tools. Animals and difficulty need an overhaul. Coop was a nice addition but its execution is terrible.
Animals seem to be fine, but the "locked region" difficulty should be better structured.
@@tomigun5180 Bears are stupid strong and there is a quest you can fight and capture THREE of them at once. You could easily get them by finding them in jail cells, even in the weakest starting zone. The game punishes you for recruiting by just increasing the enemy count instead of making the fights harder. A random encounter can take you 10 minutes waiting for each weak bandit to take their turn instead of you just fighting super buffed enemies.
@@PeteringYT Bears have no armor, but they have a lot of HP, that's true. Hence, I use mine as a tank. But they do low DMG and have only one basic attack, compared to human companions. I'm in the second region only, I admit, but I only found a white wolf in a prison. Maybe it could have been a bear? Is it a random animal? I have a 12 members group now and the game feels well balanced, but it could change in the 3rd region, we'll see. Guards are VERY strong (I'm always wanted, hehe), I try to avoid them, outlaws are really weaker, like you said. For now, I am satisfied and pleasantly surprised with the game.
@@tomigun5180 I have personally found a bear in the first region's prison. It didn't have great traits, but it was still usable. Crafting is really overpowered and make rares worthless. Even playing the hardest difficulty, I have never permanently lost a companion. The version I last played was before helmets were introduced, but I did recently attempt coop with a buddy and it was disappointing.
@@PeteringYT Well, yes, in some cases crafted weapons/armor are better, but not always. Now that we have helmets, I'm still using a lvl2 helmet because it's still better for my companion's fighting style (it adds an important skill) than the crafted ones (only have stats). I'm not playing on the hardest difficulty, only on experienced, for me it's perfect, only once I had to reload because one of my people died, at the very beginning while I still learned the game. But I had quite a few battles when I had to fight tooth and nail to stay alive, bandaged dying characters several times. Never used the flee option though. Wait until an update or two comes out and give it another try.
Would love to see you do Fear and Hunger one of these days. I think by now a pretty large part of the internet's picked up on how good those games are, but would still be good to see your opinion.

But only if FINALLY we get a realistic pirate game, I don´t want no more "Pirates of the Caribean", I want historical Corsairs and Brit Navy ducking it out for gold and war of control over the caribean. So many pirate things go the "jack sparrow" route and I´m getting tired of it, some of the men on board may be scundrels, but the reality of ship captains has being wildly fictionalized. They were both payed by their empires to do their thing, all this "lawless rebels" it´s too hollywood and americanized (which also never had match up with real American politics, that one I never understood).
@@ungreatfulduck750 Those were fun movies (the first 3 at least), but Captain and Commander with Russell Crowe was more realistic and also very good. But Larian would make a game where pirates would jump around in pink and rainbow colored clothing and make love to each other.

I'm not coming back to this game until you can have an actual base (not the camp or trading post) it would be sooo cool of this ship upgrade mechanic would be implemented in a castle or town type scenario q.q

They added a Monk, but they did not give us gunpowder weapons for Pirate DLC, why😭
The setting is low medieval inspired... Maybe some gear designs are from later times, but the golden age of piracy with all the gunpowder stuff was like 200-300 years after the end of the medieval ages...
@jarrel3018 'inspired'... I know it's a low fantasy but geez... Nothing more to say about this. The other thing is that we as people knew the black powder earlier but did we use it during the medieval times? The start of using actual cannons in the 'west' dates back to the end of medieval period. I know the rule of cool, but it would destroy the game's climate...

@@abcede3897 I think you are a bit confused. Shiro Games never claimed their game is low Medival, IT IS LOW-FANTASY. Look at the steam description. The game place in the medieval era filled with plauge. It's clear this game is inspired by the Black Plague period, which dates back to the 13th century, the age were Gunpowder was a thing and slowly used in armies. If there are weapons and armour from further medieval periods, then it is a free game to give the Ranger class the Musket, I don't really understand your gate keeping. While giving a pass to weapons from the later periods of the medieval age.
@@TheRetifox Wrong. The battle of Crécy, which established the effectiveness of the longbow, happened a good 100 years later, in the middle of the 14th century. Gunpowder wasn't "slowly used in armies" 100+ years earlier LOL. It was first used about 250 years later than you said, around 1470, in the 15th century. And they were still primitive arquebuses. Cannons were used at sieges e.g. by the Turks at the siege of Nándorfehérvár (today: Belgrad), in 1456, but they could only be used 2-3 times a day because of the overheating problem.

Not sure if you have it in your bank of games to want to play, but I think a really cool review from Darkest Dungeon 2 would be awesome from your perspective!
You also need to be a certain level (looks like around 14) before going there, unless you use flexible regional scaling. Otherwise, it seems very deadly from what I saw on a stream.

Not much fantasy elements here. The combat is turn based. I think it's closer to King's Bounty but you're probably looking for a different game...

Been saving my third playthrough until the DLC. My steam account says that i have played a 100 more hours of Wartales before the DLC already than i did BG3
The pugilist bug is a huge deal that no one is talking about. It's either very rare or no one is playing the class yet.

On region locked, its endgame, on adaptive its whatever level you are

Sort of, one of the descriptions talked about using a rope to jump in the water so I wasnt sure if thats what they meant or not

Did they do anything about customization? I didn't bother with the game once i had to make characters with the limited options available. I dont usually base my opinion on something as simple as being able to create myself or someone adjacent but it soured my opinion towards the game

I don't think Shiro Games will ever improve character customization. This game is more sandbox than RPG. Your four starting characters are not special and can be easily replaced by the randomly generated recruits found in taverns. There is no reason to get attached to them for Shiro Games to create an in-depth character creator. Even if you replace all of them the game acts like nothing happened and you just carry on.

Are you strictly talking about visual customization of your playable characters like facial features and skintones? Because that got a good chunk of new options added with the DLC. Although I think thats available with the free update already... not sure though

Wartales is a good game, but it takes way too long to achieve anything, especially considering the pay offs. The pacing and the repetitiveness are way off. I would very much prefer if the developers moved to another project instead of making a DLC playing into the same mechanics.

I don't think so, I haven't played PoE2 yet, (still in the first game) but it's more about an already written story than this sandbox for sure...
