In this video I tackle setting up the foam support, sizing and fitting the aluminum floor and getting it cut to fit for the subfloor. Hey buddy thanks for the information in this video im avout to do a floor myself and just curious why you added the foam and if you found it absolutely necessary? I can only assume it was to maybe quiet any creaking? Thanks in advance
Hey man, it's usually added to help it float if the boat capsizes or sinks. You don't need to add it if you don't want too.
Hey pretty new on this would put sub floor like this in if u pulled a bench seat out a 14 ft jon boat for support
@@JohnTodd-k8s it would give you some mild support if ran some aluminum from rib to rib. Just putting in a floor would t help too much for that. Also depend how many ribs were around the seat that was taken out
Love your videos but have a quick question. Just about to lay the aluminum floor down. What's the best way to secure the seats and other things to the floor?
There's not a simple answer to that because it depends on a lot of factors like mounting bases, framing, floor thickness etc. For me, I framed in a set bench and mounted seats to the bench, the only thing I mounted to the floor was the side console and I used a mix of stainless screws and aluminum rivets.

My jon boat is a 1448 and the middle seat was removed by the previous owner, it flexes a lot, enough to crack 3 cross members, i was hoping that putting some aluminum angle perpendicular with the cross members to tie them together then puting an aluminum floor down, do you think that would stiffen it up? Have you noticed a difference in stiffness?
Yes that would definitely sure up the stiffness

Any hardware store, Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, etc
Where did you buy your aluminum sheets?
I bought them from a local fabrication shop, they ordered it in for me.

What’s the point of the foam board ?
May I ask why you’re putting foam in?
It's for safety flotation, basically if the boat gets swamped or capsized it aids in not having the boat sink completely. It's also legally required and helps with sound deadening
